IntroductionO Sudden Infant Death Syndrome
(SIDS) also known as crib death.O Statistics show that 2,500 deaths
yearly are caused by this syndrome.O The cause for this syndrome is not
known yet, but many research is been done and there are possibilities.
Possible CausesO Genetic alterations
O Physiological correlatesO Brugada SyndromeO Long QT Syndrome (LQTS)
O Possible predisposing effectsO Genes encoding autonomous nervous
system
Possible Causes O Pre-natal care
O Maternal Cigarette smokingO Prolonged ApneaO Prolonged Bradycardia
ConclusionO SIDS does not have an exclusive
cause yet, but if we find that cause, this syndrome would disappear.
O Autopsies reveal the different possible causes but can’t diagnose as SIDS.
ConclusionO Many foundations help the cause,
and do fundraising to support research for this syndrome.
