Shaped RefractoriesCalcined Products Due to special characteristics of shapedrefractories that are manufactured by POSCO CHEMTECH, its highrefractoriness, corrosion resistence, and excellent hot strength out-stands in quality for the use of a special refining furnace, a cementrotary kiln, a non-ferrous and a glass meting furnace. Non-calcined Products They are used for the linings of aconverter, an electric furnace, a ladle with an erosion resistancewhich characterizes in an excellent thermal shock resistance of rapidheating and quenching for basic slag.

By chemical classification, it is broadlydivided into three types, acidic, neutral, and basicrefractories. Blast Furnace Construction and RenovationSpecializing in the blast furnace construction and the renovationsince 1973 in Pohang with our 1st Blast Furnace, we haveperformed the furnace construction and the renovation in bothPohang and GwangYang Steel Works with the specialties andtechnical skills related to the field.

Steel and Non-ferrous (Fe-Ni, Fe-Mn, Fe-Si)Effective refractory construction is carried out by selecting adequateconstruction method and by correcting diagnosis for facility,especially in the field of a heating furnace, a smelting hearth (Fe-Ni,Mn, Si), and a melting furnace.

Quicklime Business SectorQuicklime plays an important role for removing impurities in the ironmaking and steel making processes with a high chemical activity as wellas improving the quality of the molten metal. Quicklime (CaO) isproduced by heating limestone (CaCO3) in the high temperature above900°aboith the following chemical mechanism. (CaCO3 → CaO + CO2)

Quality of QuicklimePOSCO CHEMTECH with the world's best technology for limecalcination manufactures various customized products from high-grade quicklime for the stainless steel process to a normal-grade forsintering. In addition, most of the raw limestone that are used in theprocess for producing domestically used limestone makes it possibleto produce the high-quality product.

POSCO CHEMTECH has been operating the lime calcination plantat POSCO in Pohang and Gwang Yang steel works since 2008.POSCO CHEMTECH has the nation's largest annual productioncapacity of 2.4 million tons and extends its sales marketthroughout the international market, starting from Indonesia since2012.

commissioned operation of POSCO’s COG (Coke Oven Gas) refinery plant, and we have been expanding our

COG (Coke Oven Gas) Refinery Process COG (Coke over Gas) that is generated during the carbonizationprocess in the coke oven is used as the heating source in the SteelWorks. Impurities (H2S, NH3, Tar Mist, BTX and etc) are recoveredfrom the COG refinery process which will turn out to be the valuableby-products such as tar, light oils, sulfur, ammonium sulfate with theadequate grade as the commericial products.

Needle CokeNeedle Coke is manufactured through the chemical processes ofpretreatment, distillation, extraction, coking and calcination. It has acrystal structure with the physical properties of a thin and longneedle shape with an excellent durability at high temperature. It isused as the main material of an electric furnace that melts andrefines iron scraps, and an electrode rod for ladles used in steelmaking

Pitch CokePitch Coke is produced in the same process of Needle Coke witheliminated quinoline insolubles, and it has the crystal structures withthe constant physical properties in all directions. They are used asthe raw material of isostatic graphite and electrode rods for thealuminum melting furnace.

Isostatic GraphiteManufactured pitch cokes from POSCO CHEMTECH is used for theraw material of isostatic graphite with the additives, and this isknown as the artificial graphite with wide range of application, suchas solar cells, semiconductors, and LED manufacturing equipment.Also, it has a good resistance for chemicals and high temperaturewith an excellent workability.

We are seeking to enter the higher value-added businessesincluding Needle Coke which becomes the core material ofan electrode and a supercap electrode that are utilized froma chemical production of coal tar. For the use of Pitch Coke,the isostatic graphite and anode material for the secondarybattery are utilized from Pitch Coke that is manufactured fromPOSCO CHEMTECH.

Anode Material for the Secondary Lithium-ion BatteryPOSCO CHEMTECH has been developing the anode materialbusiness with the acquisition of the anode material sector from LSMtron in September 2010 to localize the anode material for thesecondary battery which has been previously relied on imports. Anew factory in Jeonui Industrial Complex was established and beganthe operation in November, 2011. Superior technology andnumerous patents are possessed with the support of WPM (WorldPremier Materials, focusing on 10 major businesses in raw materials)and national projects in the graphite-based anode material, as wellas the interests in the high capacity metallic anode material for thenext development.
