KEY FABRICS
Made from 100% Polyester breathable Oxford fabric. ColdStore fabric is abrasion resistant and has a Texpel stain and water resistant finish, ensuring it stays cleaner for longer.
When put to the test, Cordura resists tears and abrasions like no other fabric of its kind. Ounce for ounce, Cordura is more durable than other fabrics. So regardless of your activities, youll benefit from the toughness of Cordura.
This durable, stretchable fabric is tear resistant, anti-fungal, oil, fat, diesel and grease resistant and can be easily wiped clean. All garments are finished with high frequency welded seams ensuring maximum water-resistance.
Texpel is a durable, stain repellent finish which protects against everyday spills without changing the feel or comfort of the fabric. The finish is highly breathable.
All Technik products use the latest in technical fabrics. Technik fabrics offer a range of levels of waterproofness & breathability.
TEXO fabric is composed of 60% cotton/40% polyester. The cotton content gives a soft handle while the polyester provides durability & moisture wicking properties.
Goretex garments are renowned for being the premium waterproof, breathable garments in the market.
Fortis Plus fabric is designed to withstand the rigours of todays modern workplace. This fabric offers greater durability, superior protective qualities and excellent wearer comfort (65% Polyester/35% Cotton).
Kingsmill fabric guarantees high performance and maximum comfort. The material is fully pre-shrunk, has superior dye retention and all the features you would expect from a modern workwear fabric.(65% Polyester/35% Cotton)
Fortis fabric has been constructed to a high specification and is the practical choice for your workwear needs (65% Polyester/35% Cotton).
Tradeguard fabric is made from 65% Polyester/35% Cotton. Superior dyes ensure colour consistency. The yarns are all ring-spun with long staple combed cotton. It is fully pre-shrunk with each garment providing protection in multiple working environments.
Buildtex fabrics were created to give double the durability and twice the comfort. These extremely tough, premium fabrics provide robust, hardwearing strength that contributes to the powerful Buildtex brand.
FLAME RESISTANT WORKWEAR CLASSICS
BizFlame Plus has been developed and designed to produce a highly innovative flame resistant fabric with added anti-static properties.
The garments in the Bizweld Flame Resistant range have been specially designed to guarantee comfort, performance and safety whilst providing effective protection at all times.
HiVisTex Silver Retro Reflective tape is the ultimate reflective tape. Fully certified HiVisTex gives a superior performance in all weather conditions.
This fabric is 100% pre-shrunk cotton drill with a unique flame resistant finish.
Bizflame Multi has been designed and developed to provide flame, welding, anti-static and chemical protection. The fabric is constructed with 99% Cotton and 1% Carbon fibre.

Araflame has been designed and developed to provide flame, welding, electric arc and anti-static protection. It is constucted from 93% meta-aramid, 5% para-aramid and 2% carbon fibre.
Modaflame has been designed and developed to provide flame, welding, electric arc and anti static protection. It is constructed from 60% modacrylic, 39% cotton and 1% carbon fibre.
Modaflame Knit is constructed from an inherently fire resistant and anti static yarn and has the ability to withstand heat and protect against the danger caused by static electricity.
BizFlame Rain is specially developed to give all the protection of the BizFlame fabrics and also give the added benefits of high visibility & foul weather protection.
Consists of a polypropylene substrate to which a laminated microporous polyethlene film is applied (PP/PE). The outer layer of fabric prevents the passage of liquid molecules inwards yet permits the vapour molecules that build up inside to pass out.
Bizflame Pro has been developed to provide full protection against the dangers of welding, flame & static electricity. It is constructed from 99% cotton, 1% carbon fibre, twill weave.
Ignis outershell fabric is constructed from 95% meta-aramid & 5% para-aramid. The mirror like surface reflects radiant heat allowing close flame proximity.
Sealtex Flame is a flame & chemical resistant PU coated polyester fabric. It is flexible & lightweight.
Offers all the characteristics of the Sealtex fabric but specifically designed for the high visibility industry with added breathability.
Sealtex Air has all the features and benefits of Sealtex Classic with the added advantage of being highly breathable.
Vestport fabric is constructed from 100% polyester warp knitted fabric. This fabric is lightweight, comfortable and highly breathable.
100% Cotton fabric is comfortable and absorbent. This is suitable for both domestic & high temperature laundering.
Ripstop fabric is constructed using 100% polyester and is PVC coated. The tough outer ripstop shell guarantees outstanding waterproof protection.

EN 1486This European Standard specifies test methods and minimum performance requirements for reflective protective clothing used in specialised fire-fighting.
This clothing provides protection against flame lick and intense radiant heat and
is worn for short periods only, to enable the fire-fighter to enter specific high risk fire-fighting and fire rescue situations which also require the use of breathing apparatus.
This standard only covers protective clothing that relies upon the ability of the outer material to reflect intense heat. This type of reflective clothing may also be used for industrial applications involving high levels of radiant heat.
FabricThe IGNIS Fabric is specifically designed for the manufacture of garments used in close proximity or entry into high intensity fires.
Extremely lightweight at 330gm, and pliable, the IGNIS outer shell fabric is a metallised aluminium coated meta-para aramid fabric that is constructed from 95% Meta-aramid and blended with 5% Para-aramid.
Layering Structure ExampleThe Ignis Aluminised Suits are constructed with the following outer, mid and inner layers:
Outer Ignis Aluminised Shell:The Ignis Aluminised 330gm outer shell fabric is a metallised aluminium coated meta-para aramid fabric that is made of heat and flame resistant textiles which, when exposed to fire, char instead of melting or combusting, thereby reducing injuries that can be caused by the ignition of the materials.
Mid Thermal Liner: Constructed of layers of 120gm or 200gm Carbon Felt a flame-resistant, non-woven fabric. The thickness of the felt also insulates the wearer from the effects of extreme heat encountered during structural fire fighting operations.
Inner Thermal Liner:An inner layer of 125gm Aramid Viscose an anti-flame woven fabric that provides stability and strength.

Aluminised Range ApplicationsSelection of appropriate PPE is based on a risk assessment made by the user according to the European Directive 686/89 EC. There are 3 types of Aluminised Reflective Clothing
Radiant Heat Reflectivity
Fire Entry Range:Constructed with 7 layers of heat resistant materials, the Ignis Fire Entry suit provides the maximum in heat protection and requires the use of a self contained breathing apparatus to provide breathable air to the wearer.
These suits provide full body coverage and are worn for entry into extreme heat and situations requiring protection from total flame engulfment. These suits are certified to EN1486:2007

Proximity Range:Providing full body coverage including the head, hands and feet, the Proximity garments provide excellent protection from radiant heat and high temperatures.
Due to the high ambient temperatures that the wearer can be subjected to, it is suggested that the Ignis Proximity suits are worn with a breathing apparatus to provide breathing air at normal temperatures.
The Proximity garments, certified to EN11612, are used for aircraft rescue, aircraft firefighting and proximity of high temperatures (but not entry into direct flame).

Approach Range:Certified to EN11612, this range is constructed with the Ignis outer shell with some items having additional internal layers for increased heat resistance.
This range of PPE is used for industrial work involving high temperatures such as steel mills and smelting facilities and does not require a breathing apparatus to be worn.

This seven layered, one-piece coverall, is lightweight and extremely flexible. Certified to EN1486:2007, this suit is tailored to be worn with a self contained breathing apparatus (SCBA) for protection in hostile atmospheres. Faceshield protection is provided by a multi-layered system of tempered reflective gold on a heat resistant glass lens. The hood has an excellent lateral and vertical visibility.

Designed to sit comfortably and to be worn with the AM20 Proximity Coverall and the AM22 Proximity overboots, the Proximity Hood features an inner hard cap that complies with EN397. The gold colour outer visor together with the transparent inner visor allows for excellent lateral and vertical visibility. An allowance is also made for a face mask and dispenser.

The Solar Fire Suit can endure high levels of heat for brief periods of time without themselves combusting and burning and therefore minimises body burn percentage when exposed to heat and flames.
The Solar Structural Fire Suits have three components: an outer shell, a moisture barrier, and a thermal barrier, all serving a different function. The outer layer protects against flame injury and burns caused by conductive heat. The moisture barrier protects against water penetration and allowing internal moisture vapour to escape. It is imperative that the layers are kept dry to avoid the transfer of heat in a convective manner from the outer layer through the layers to the skin. The inner thermal barrier and lining offers protection against heat from proximity to flame. In between each of these layers are pockets of air and together with the fabric layers, they help to further insulate the wearer from the extreme environments of fires.
This European Standard specifies minimum levels of performance requirements for protective clothing to be worn during fire fighting operations and associated activities.Suits shall provide protection for the firefighters torso,neck, arms to the wrists, and leg to ankles during firefighting activities.
A generous overlap suitable for all body movements shall be maintained between the jacket and trousers.

Solar Structural Fire Suits certified to EN469:2006 Level 2 are constructed with the following layers:
OuterLayer:The outer shell layer is a high-heat and flame resistant material, which provides initial protection against heat, flame and abrasion and protects the inner liner.
Moisture Barrier:The moisture barrier reduces the amount of water from the environment that might penetrate to the inside of the garment. Another important aspect of moisture barrier protection is the ability to breathe, promoting evaporative cooling of the fire fighters body.
Thermal Liner:The thermal liner provides an air pocket to protect the wearer against external heat sources. The suits are designed to be as light as possible without compromising the safety of the wearer or the quality of the garment.
Types of Heat Transfer:There are three types of heat transfer in a fire that could cause burns:
Quick Release zipThe Quick Release zip features in all the Solar Fire Suits. The design of this zip enables the wearer to quickly open the zip from the top. By pulling up the slider sharply, the slider will become disengaged and release from one side of the zipper teeth. This acts as a quick opening and is used for safety reasons in protective clothing.

Conduction:A conductive heat burn will occur if the wearer touches a heated surface or object.
Convection:Convected heat travels through the air, even if there is no immediate appearance of fire.
Radiation:Radiation is the transfer of heat into a material, directly from flames or reflected from hot objects.

Araflame is an extremely flame resistant Aramid which offers a lightweight, high tensile strength, inherently permanent flame resistant protection and an anti static finish.
Modaflame is an inherently permanent flame resistant fabric. This special blend combines 60% Modacrylic Fibre with 39% Cotton and 1% Carbon Fibre. Modaflame is extremely comfortable, hard wearing and is anti static.

Russian GOST-R CertificationMany Portwest products are now certified to GOST-R standards, meaning that these products are certified, for sale and use in the Russian Federation market. The GOST-R certification process has been created to protect consumers rights and to avoid the import of poor quality products. Any products entering the Russian Federation market should meet national quality standards.The certification process for products may be either obligatory or voluntary, for which there are regulations in place. This involves both domestically produced, and imported goods into Russia.
Obligatory certificate An obligatory certificate contains a profile of the goods and confirms their compliance with the standards as listed on the certificate of conformance.
Inspection is carried out by a specialist, on the production premises of the goods that require certification. On the basis of results obtained from this, and through testing samples of the goods in a laboratory, an appropriate certificate of compliance is issued.
Voluntary Certificates This type of certificate is for products where no formal legislation is laid down for their certification, but the importer/exporter still wishes to prove their high quality.
A certificate of conformance may be issued either for a batch of goods or on ongoing production and its validity varies. If a certificate is issued for a batch of goods, it will be valid for one shipment. For ongoing production items, certificates of conformance may be valid from 1 to 3 years. Portwest have opted for the latter version, so all our GOST-R certificates are valid for the maximum period of 3 years.
These standards are currently being reviewed and updated by the Technical Regulation to Customs Union TR CU 019/2011 (Safety of personal protective equipment) with the purpose of establishing the uniform requirements for PPE. Portwest will be updating all their products to the new legislation accordingly, when the certification bodies receive accreditation to do so. The new legislation will be valid in three countires - Russia, Belarus and Kazakhstan whilst at the moment the GOST-R certificate of conformance covers the Russian Federation only.

Class 1 is to a current of 4 kA arc, Class 2 is to a current of 7 kA arc. Test conditions for class 1 & 2 try to stimulate typical exposure conditions for a short circuit current of 4kA and 7kA respectively.
Open Arc Method EN61482-1-1.TESTED USING METHOD A - FABRIC ONLY. The ATPV (Arc Thermal Protection Value) result (expressed in cal/cm2) represents the maximum incident thermal energy in units of energy per square area that a fabric can support before the wearer will suffer 2nd degree burns. This method tests the fabric with an 8 kA arc for various incident durations. Workers are assumed to be safe if the arc rating of their clothes exceeds the electric arc incident energy calculated in the worst case scenario of a risk assesment. Garments can be layered to achieve an overall ATPV Rating. For example, thermals may achieve an ATPV of 4.3 Cal/m2, and an outer coverall may achieve an ATPV of 13.6Cal/cm2. However the combination ATPV will be greater than the sum of the two single layers, as the air gap between the two layers affords the wearer additional protection.

Performance requirements for chemical protective clothing offering limited protective performance against liquid
chemicals (Type 6 and Type PB [6] equipment). This standard specifies the minimum requirements for limited use and re-useable limited performance chemical protective clothing. Limited performance chemical protective clothing is intended for use in cases of a potential exposure to a light spray, liquid aerosols or low pressure, low volume splashes, against which a complete liquid permeation barrier (at a molecular level)is not required.
The standard covers both chemical protective suits (Type 6) and partial body protection (Type PB[6]). Chemical Protective suits (Type 6) cover and protect at least the trunk and the limbs, e.g. one piece coveralls or two piece suits, with or without hood, boot-socks or boot covers. Partial body protection of similar limited performance (Type PB [6])covers and protects only specific parts of the body, e.g. coats, aprons, sleeves etc.
