portuguese suppliersconnecting excellenceseptember 2013

message from the CEO

The macroeconomic situation we have been experiencing since 2008 has had a strong impact on the world as we know it, and because of this, it is more important than ever for companies to be aligned with their stakeholders in order to achieve their objectives. At EDP, we view this alignment not only as a necessity, but also as an opportunity for the company and for its partners.

EDP’s trademarks are technological innovation, modernisation of our management models and renovation of the methods and processes used in our relations with the networks we work with, among others. This includes the sustainability of the company and its partners.

In conjunction with our partner China Three Gorges, we are launching a roadshow in Beijing, China, with the aim of promoting our Portuguese partners to Chinese companies. We are determined to support our local partners in the internationalisation process.

EDP is a major company in the worldwide energy sector, and this is due in part to the relationship we have established with our suppliers, one that is centred on innovation, good practices and social responsibility. It is the focus on these values that has led to this innovative initiative in Portugal, one that we hope will be a success and foster the development of new business opportunities for our partners.

Thank you. We are counting on all of you.

EDPartners 2013Connecting Business

In a world that is constantly changing, where best management practices are always adapting to the needs of various stakeholders, the role of procurement is also evolving to keep pace with this reality. These days, more than just responding to the daily needs of the business, the EDP Group’s procurement role is exercised in a highly demanding, multidisciplinary environment where it is directly responsible for creating value for the Group. Concepts like supplier relationship management (SRM), supply guarantee and quality, cost control and risk analysis have long been a part of this activity, and they play a central role in our relationships with our suppliers, who have become more and more like true partners in a special relationship that serves as the starting point for the project that is now taking form.

Never before has there been so much talk of internationalisation. What used to be seen as secondary has become imperative and aversion to risk has given way to calculated risk in the search for new markets and new solutions to encounter new sources of revenue. The EDP Group, aware of the difficulties involved in the process of internationalisation, is determined to contribute actively towards making it a reality by placing itself at the service of its partners and sharing experiences and contacts to facilitate this task.

Therefore, shouldering its corporate social responsibilities and following up on the success it had with the edpartners initiative in 2012, EDP has designed roadshows whose main theme is internationalisation, in which it acts as a facilitator for new businesses and new partnerships in new geographical areas. A new paradigm has been born out of the relationship between EDP and its partners. With the solid presence the company enjoys in the Brazilian market and the new window of opportunity that has opened in the Far East, EDPartners 2013 aims to introduce and facilitate the entry of Portuguese companies into these emerging markets, where the foundations of the world economy are increasing being built.

This second edition of EDPartners represents an opportunity-filled challenge. We are counting on everyone so that this project will be successful and ultimately contribute to the success of your company.
