During the time that Portugal took control of Brazil, the Portuguese had an agricultural economy where they sold tobacco and cotton.

Sugar cane was also cultivated and sold, the Portuguese also milled it into sugar.

The Portuguese used slaves to harvest and process the sugar canes.

The Portuguese also restricted Brazil’s trade so that Brazil could only trade with Portugal and other Portugal colonies.

It was known through out Europe that Brazil’s sugar was of a high quality.

During the sixteenth century Portugal tried to expand Inland of Brazil.

The sole purpose of exploring inland was to see if the Portuguese can find any new minerals or silver mines.

The Entradas, a group that is done for Portugal’s king and its main purpose was to chart down and map unknown areas.

The Bandeiras was a private group funded by the paulistas. The Bandeiras main purpose was to find more slaves and

more goods like minerals The Bandeiras were the group that found gold in the inland

of Brazil.
