Erin is a contemporary figurative artist living and working in Los Angeles, CA. Her work looks into the human imagination as it is expressed visually. She is particularly intrigued by the ways in which the mind can conjure and create worlds by piecing together memory, experience, and the ability of the mind’s eye to render a non-reality. She draws on the genre of portraiture as a foundation for these explorations, but chooses to depict an atmosphere or sensation expressed inside the formal qualities of human shapes rather than a particular person or sitter. She has exhibited in Canada, the US, Australia, London, Switzerland, Sweden and Scotland. Erin was selected by Saatchi Art as ‘One to Watch’ and by Saatchi Art’s chief curator, Rebecca Wilson, as one of ‘20 Emerging Artist in the World to Follow.’ Designlines Magazine named her one of Toronto’s ‘Six Art Stars’ and blogTO counted her in their ‘Top 10 Most Talked About Artists In Toronto.’ Noteable named her one of their ‘Notable Young Entrepreneurs.’ She is currently completing an artist residency in Los Angeles, CA at ESXLA.

Erin has recently collaborated on projects for The Drake Hotel, Kit + Ace, Anthroplogie, Saatchi Limited, and Portia De Rossi’s new art line General Public Art.

Carlos Donjuan grew up hearing negative commentary about illegal aliens, a term he later learned that was used to label people like him and his family. In his artwork, Donjuan aims to take on the pejorative term “alien” and redefine its meaning with figures cloaked in sprightly shapes and patterns. The subjects are acutely personal as he often references family and friends in hopes of gaining a bet-ter understanding of his fears of not belonging, of failure, and even his own mortality. In this manner, Donjuan uses his own narrative as a first generation American to address perceptions of immigration and acceptance. His masked figures are meant to be playful and approachable, rather than a faceless threat.

Carlos Donjuan, La Zoey, oil on canvas, 48 x 48 inches

Carlos Donjuan was born in San Luis Potosi, Mexico in 1982 to Marisa and Ceverino Donjuan. Three years later, his parents brought him and his two younger to the USA in search of better opportunities. The family arrived in Dallas, Texas in 1985 and they have called it home ever since. After finishing college, Donjuan returned to Dallas where he began to exhibit his work and soon established a list of regular collectors, including actor Cheech Marin. With the collective Sour Grapes, which includes his two younger brothers and some childhood friends, Donjuan paints murals, hosts workshops and mentors at-risk youths.

Donjuan has taught at El Centro Community College in Dallas and at the University of Texas atArlington. He has shown work at the Mesa Contemporary Art Museum, the Latino Cultural Center in Dallas, the Vincent Price Museum in Los Angeles, the Musee d’ Aquitaine in Bordeaux, France, the McNay Museum in San Antonio and is a long-time participant in the Serie Project at the Mexic-Arte Museum in Austin.

Julia Lambright was born and raised in Russia. She received an MFA with Distinction in painting from the University of New Mexico. Previously working primarily in oil, her focus over the last decade has been rooted in traditional egg-tempera painting, a knowledge which she acquired from masters in Russia and the United States. While searching for a personal spiritual experience, Lambright began exploring iconographic canons, formulas, and techniques of 17th century icon painting. Being influenced by the icon’s visual aesthetics and its technical construction, Lambright integrates and transforms its principles into a contemporary form of art making.

Artist StatementMy work is concerned with the inadequacy and impermanence of memory. As I excavate the strata of the past, I build these layers into my paintings, recombining incomplete images and symbols to evoke the emotional experience of moments distant in time and space. Moving from polished surfaces to layered textures, combining issues of self and society, I seek to create arresting and ambiguous imagery that draws the viewer into an ongoing dialogue. In a world that is constantly in flux, my paintings record the process of piecing together ideas, impressions, and fragments of memory into a unified and resonant narrative.
