SERGIO BALLIVIANPhotographer

Sergio Ballivian was born in La Paz, Bolivia and lived abroad in the US, Canada and Spain for almost 35 years, with addresses in Washington D.C. and Boulder, Colorado and in La Paz. He graduated from Calvert College in La Paz and studied in Seville Spain and Calgary, Alberta, Canada. Dividing his time between the Andes and the Rocky Mountains, continue pursuing adventures via 4x4, motorcycle, kayak or mountain bike. He worked for 5 years in National Geographic in the photography department, supporting the photographers traveling around the world. He started taking photos when he was 15 years old, falling in love with the medium to remember his adventures that continue to this day. His love of adventure and exploration still burns more over the years and every time he sees a place he does not know on a map. His international trips took him to the

USA, Canada, Mexico, Guatemala, Honduras, Panama, Brazil, Ecuador, Peru and Chile and to Nepal and New Zealand. The love he has for his native land allows him to travel with clients to take courses in photography, documentaries and expeditions. He started doing photo tours more than a decade ago. His last venture is to publish photography books. Sergio directs photographic trips throughout the year to all corners of Bolivia and Latin America. Until today he has published two books; Altiplano - Where Heaven and Earth Are Embracing (2016) and Madidi - An Uncertain Future (2017). His third book is about the Bolivian Andes that will be published in 2019. His photography of landscapes, animals and people sheds light on unique places that require protection. DAY 1 | PUNTA ARENAS – PATAGONIA CAMPToday´s topic: recognizing the surroundings.

Transfer from Punta Arenas airport - Puerto Natales (3 hrs): on the way we will tell you a bit of the history of Patagonia, its native people, fisherman, first settlers, etc. and we will pass through Puerto Natales promenade; once here, is possible to get the first pictures of the stunning landscape of the area with a special lighting conditions due to the proximity with the pole.Arriving in Patagonia Camp a warm welcome is waiting for you! After that we will do a short briefing to explain you in detail our program for the next days. (Don´t leave you camera far from you because the beauty of Patagonia Camp is also so wonderful to picture!)Welcome dinner.

DAY 2 / GREY GLACIER LOOKOUT POINT: Intense colors.Today´s topic: The ice and blue.

Buffet breakfast.Patagonia Camp - Guardería Grey: hike along Pingo trail walking for 1 hr approx. where it ispossible to observe a great variety of flora and fauna, ideal to capture good images of the wildnature form a very closed distance. The excursion continues to the Grey Beach to see the famousMagellan woodpecker in the native forest and other typical birds such as the “cachaña” and otherspecies. Passing the forest we will see the majestic icebergs floating on the water with its beautifuland deep blue colors of the Grey Glacier which you couldn´t stop to photograph!After the delicious box lunch we will return to Patagonia Camp.While you enjoy you dinner we will share images captured along the day.

Patagonia Camp: Base CampLocated at the shore of Toro Lake - Torres del Paine in a place of extraordinary beauty Patagonia Camp is the first luxury camp in South America. The Camp is very innovative and lovely where every detail has been thought to give maximum comfort with a great hospitality service typical of Chilean people in an ambience 100% ecofriendly.

Patagonia Camp counts with 20 Yurts, comfortable tents Mongolian style in the midst of a native tree forest. Every Yurt is facing the majestic Paine massif and they are fully equipped with matrimonial or twin beds, central heating, private bathroom and terrace and fine decorated with handmade furniture and local fabrics, giving a unique local experience.

DAY 4 / OUTING IN THE FOREST: Native tree forest in autumn.Today´s topic: Visual textures.

Buffet breakfast.Today we have two options that we will decide together and depending on weather conditions and on the group interest. The options are: trekking to the base of the towers viewpoint or the trails in Patagonia Camp private reserve. The idea for today is to go inside the native forest with the inspiring spring colors to take pictures of the different textures, a very important element in photography that you will love to capture! a great way to say with the eyes if an object is soft, rough, smooth, etc.Get your camera and don´t miss the chance to get the best image of the unique Patagonian sunset, once again, a gift of special luminosity that you can only find at the world´s end….For this last night you will enjoy a special cocktail and dinner.

DAY 3 / FAUNA TRAIL: Walking in between entrances.Today´s topic: Fauna, Pre-Historic, Indigenous.

Buffet breakfast.Patagonia Camp – Sarmiento entrance: this hike of medium difficulty level starts in Sarmiento area (3 hrs approx..) Here is possible to enjoy of the wild fauna such as guanacos, ñandues and grey foxes interacting naturally; the ideal spot to take amazing pictures of fauna in their natural environment. This area is one of the favorite places for the puma to hunt, and although the pumais a nocturnal animal it is probably to see it stealthy hidden in the bush… if we are in good luck! Later on, we will visit the cave paintings created by the natives 6.000 years ago, a journey to the past where you can imagine the way of life of the aborigines in the area; a special location to capture a piece of the Patagonian history.After, we will visit the Paine waterfall, a perfect place to understand the hydrographic system of The Park and a great opportunity to photography the movement of the water.Box lunch.Return to Patagonia Camp, Dinner
