CIVIL & ENVIRONMENTAL ENGINEERING at PORTLAND STATE UNIVERSITY Civil and Environmental Engineers plan, design, and manage construction and operation of public and private facilities, including highways and transportation systems, water and wastewater treatment facilities, power plants, buildings, and dams. They are involved in determining the quantity of water available for human use and in improving the quality of air, land, and water resources, both surface water and groundwater systems.

PSU: Students apply to the Civil Engineering (CE) or Environmental Engineering (ENVE) major in the Maseeh College at PSU to take upper division (300/400 level) engineering courses (in addition to the application for PSU Admission). Apply to CE or ENVE by the deadline (typically mid-April) when nearing completion of all required lower division coursework to begin 300/400 level engineering courses the next fall. See Admission Requirements (pdx.edu/cecs/admission-to-a-major) for information about Selective Admission.

General education: Transfer students enter PSU’s General Education programs (“University Studies” or “University Honors”) based on the quantity of college level credits completed. Students also complete specific lower division Arts and Letters/Social Science (A&L/SS) Requirements which may be taken at the previous college or at PSU. For CE and ENVE students, AL/SS includes WR 121 (a college writing class), WR 227 (a technical writing class) and COMM 220 (a public speaking class). See details of the A&L/SS requirements at “Maseeh College of Engineering and Computer Science Arts & Letters/Social Science Requirement” (pdx.edu/cecs/transferring-credits) and clicking on General Education Requirements for Transfer Students.

Tips: · Apply for admission to PSU by the priority admission deadlines (December 1 for the following fall)

· To apply for PSU scholarships students must have already applied to PSU. Scholarship application due date = Feb. 1 for the next academic year, beginning in September (pdx.edu/scholarships)

· All incoming PSU students must complete Orientation before registering; students must have been admitted to PSU before they can sign up for Orientation

· Advising is available to community college students planning to transfer to PSU; contact the Maseeh College Student Services Office: 503.725.4631; [email protected]
