Greetings and blessings to you from the Concordia University Portland community, which now spans the globe, while calling Portland, Boise and the Pacific Northwest “home.” An increasing number of students continue to seek out Concordia as we live out our mission of preparing leaders for the transformation of society.

God continued to bless us in Fiscal Year 2013 as we followed the clear direction outlined in our 2020 Vision. Here are some highlights:

– We continued to break enrollment records with 27% growth, making Concordia Portland the fastest growing university in Oregon and among our Concordia University System counterparts. This enrollment growth was led by online graduate degrees.

– Concordia Portland’s doctorate in education degree (Ed.D.) was launched – online and in Portland – following approval by the Northwest Commission on Colleges & Universities (NWCCU)

– We reinvented our MBA program fully online and in Portland to meet new student demand.

– The second annual Governor Victor Atiyeh Leadership in Education Awards at the Portland Art Museum in February was a tremendous success and continued to grow our student scholarships.

– Our School of Law in Boise held its inaugural Leaders in Action Awards, welcomed its second class of students, and its building earned LEED Silver status from the U.S. Green Building Council.

– In its first full year of operation, Hilken Community Stadium achieved its goal of serving community groups 50% of the time and Concordia students the other 50%.

– Newly renovated Luther Hall Science Labs were dedicated and are in full use by Concordia students studying sciences and nursing.

– Concordia Portland continues to be recognized nationally for its community service

In the coming year, we anticipate new opportunities to set even more enrollment records. We will also take our partnership with neighboring preK-8 Faubion School and Portland Public Schools to a new level as we co-build a new joint building from the ground up and develop “3 to PhD™.” 3toPhD™ is a new national model to create safer, healthier, more educated communities. As our ministry has now reached its 109th academic year – the Concordia of 2014 may look different from that of 1905, but our mission and our purpose is rooted in the same Lutheran heritage and sense of purpose of a century ago. CONCORDIA UNIVERSITYConcordia University is blessed by the leadership of the Board of Regents and the Foundation Board of Directors. The university is governed by the Board of Regents, elected by the conventions of the Lutheran Church – Missouri Synod, the Northwest District, and the current board. The Regents meet throughout the year to strategize, plan, and set forth policies that are in turn carried out by the President, who is an advisory member to the Board. The Board of Directors of the Concordia University Foundation is comprised of dedicated individuals with an affinity and passion to serve the mission of the university. The Foundation Directors oversee the overall business affairs of the Foundation and meet at various times throughout the year to inform, discuss, and strategize the goals and activities of the Foundation. Although Concordia University’s two governing boards are separate entities, starting in Fiscal Year 2012, they began to meet simultaneously and in cooperation with each other. Together, the university’s Regents and Foundation Directors are referred to as the Council of Trustees. The men and women serving the university through these leadership roles have fostered our growth and provided the vision that has led Concordia to this historic and exciting time. We thank them for their service and their leadership to the Concordia community and students.

The Hilken Community Stadium has brought a higher caliber of student-athlete to the university, and has opened Concordia’s doors to the greater community, sharing the promises of Christian education with our neighbors. There is no question that a legacy is

being built. Our family has always had an interest in sports and we believe that God made no mistake in blessing us with kids who are athletic. Two of our children played sports at Concordia, so donating to Cavalier Athletics has been a natural fit for our family. There is nothing greater that one can do in life than to reach back to help those coming up. We believe in Lutheran education, so whatever small part we can play in a student’s development is the greatest gift we can give.”

The President’s Leadership Circle is a diverse group of men and women who share a confidence in a brighter future and the belief that Concordia University can help shape that future. Membership is open to anyone who contributes $1,000 or more annually to any scholarship, program, department, or facility during the fiscal year ( July 1 – June 30).
