Het kostuum / The suit tailoring

Het menselijk lichaam is indirect maatgevend voor de architectuur. Ze vormt een schaalelement waarop de architectuur in proportie is afgestemd.

De kostuums die ik maak kunnen aanzien worden als louter een behuizing voor het mannelijke lichaam. Het is een behuizing die perfecter is dan welk gebouw ook. Het kostuum is een omhulling van het lichaam, het is een uiterlijk kenmerk, een oppervlak.

Bestaat er een strikte scheiding tussen het te bekleden lichaam en de bekleding? Of kan deze scheiding worden opgeheven? Is de bekleding eerder een huid die deel begint uit te maken van het lichaam? Het zoeken naar een antwoord op deze vragen, brengt me dichter bij de verhoudingen tussen kunst en constructie. Kunst en techniek worden als complementair aaneengeregen met het Colombia stiksel. De handtekening van de kunstenaar - kleermaker - architect.

The problem isnt to invent the environment, neather to r-invent it, but to question or to read it. We dont know how to look at a non-place.

Therefore we introduced a new methode for analysing the environment. We looked into the six directions (left, right, down, up, before and after) and started to make some cubes of our subjective perception of this non-place.

antwerpen - 1/2500Nieuw Zuid

The site is located on the south of the right bank and bordered by the quays of the Scheldt, the green belt and the tunnel to the left bank. By recognizing that the city can be seen as an entity that is kept together by a spine along the quays, the site creates an identity of its own in the diverse urban tissue of antwerp. This spine is formed by the open spaces that can be found perpendicular to the Scheldt and it often links the quays to a specific function or quality. The plan of Nieuw Zuid uses the same system for its horizontal conditions, being put out clearly as 4 parks. The vertical conditions are formed by 3 existing atmospheres: the quays, the industrial echo and the buffer of trees. As a third layer there is the input of the walk trough the site, which sews the wanted functions together with the previously named conditions and looks after the quality of the entire project.

Om ons thuis te kunnen voelen in het werelddorp lijkt het zinvol om het locale, het nabije en het kleine te (her)ontdekken. De toename van de niet-plaatsen kan ons weer bewust maken van het belang van een band met echte plaatsen. In plaats van steeds verder te vervreemden van onze natuurlijk omgeving ten gevolge van urbanisatie en globalisering, doen we er goed aan om flore en fauna te herontdekken, misschien ons eigen voedsel te gaan verbouwen en het boeiende te zien van het landschap waarin we wonen. Om de zich doorzettende neoliberale orde het hoofd te bieden, zijn decentralisatie, locale autonomie en interdependentie van locale gemeenschappen gewenst. Om de groei en de dominantie van de grote stad tegenwicht te bieden is een revitalisering en verdediging van het platteland nodig.
