Red Sea Cluster

Le projet de Red Sea Village fait partie de King Abdullah

Economic City, un grand projet d'amenagement urbain

situe 200 km du nord de la ville de Djeddah. Le but est de

concevoir des zones residentielles-conunerciales axees

sur ]es besoins des residents prospectifs tout en presentant

une interface commerciale avec le public.

Le plan directeur d'amenagement fait appel a deux

complexes de batiments separes par un boulevard axial.

Horizontalement, !es complexes sont divises en !es

elements suivants : des immeubles d'appartements, des

i'lots centraux communaux, des places et jardins et un

ruban commercial signalise par des arcades encadrant !es

complexes.

Makkah Hospital

Le projet était conçu suivant l’appel d’une organisation caritative à la ville de Makkah. En premier lieu, le but était d’avoir un grande cour jouant le rôle d’un espace publique et fournissant une interface entre le bâtiment propre et ses environs. Étant donne le climat inhospitalier pendant, au moins, la moitié de l’année, cette cour était destinée à se faire partie de l’aménagement intérieur. L’agencement des espaces sert à refléter la logique rigoureuse régissant les chaines de fonctions horizontalement et verticalement. L’hôpital est compris de :

The development of the design concept had to pay heed to the variable interface between the glazed curtain wall and the stone tiled walls. This interface was worked out through various 3D models, elevations and a sequence of sections to determine the condition of the curtain wall relative to the stone tiles wall.

As such, it was paramount that the various conditions were

reflected through the sequence of sectional drawings in order to develop the rationale of the construction details. In the mean-while, the layout and interior of the building were developed in tandem with the development of the exterior to ascertain the integrity of the connection between both.

The design brief of the National Institute of Construction Technology project called for a mosque building that could serve the commu-nity. My responsibility was in undertaking the design of this mosque building. The key factors determining the design were:

- Contrast of local contextual orientation with that of the globalkibbla orientation

- Separation of the main praying hall from the ablution spaceby virtue of an intermediate social space opening up the mosque toits surroundings

- Harmonization of the building design with the surround-ing architecture and the placement and proportioning of elements(minaret, prayer hall, ablution and secondary spaces) to result in awell-balanced whole.
