PORTFOLIO SUBMISSION GUIDE BA (Hons) Music (Classical with Jazz) Please send the following items for assessment: Classical Music requirements (performers): A video (no longer than 10 minutes) of you performing two contrasting pieces that demonstrate your musical strengths. For all instruments/voice, apart from piano and guitar, at least one of your chosen pieces should have piano accompaniment. Two contrasting pieces may be included but at least one piece should be accompanied by piano or other instruments (e.g. string quartet). Classical Music requirements (composers): A portfolio of compositions (Send fully notated scores and, if appropriate, recordings of your compositions of no longer than 10 minutes). The portfolio should consist of at least two contrasting compositions (or part thereof). A video (no longer than 10 minutes) of you performing one piece, of at least grade 5 standard, that demonstrates your musical strengths. You can perform your own composition but please send a fully notated score for assessment. Jazz requirements (performers): A video of you playing either: o Two Jazz standards (with an ensemble) chosen from the repertoire list (see next page), demonstrating your skills in Jazz improvisation and your ability to play with an ensemble. OR o One Jazz standard (with an ensemble) from the repertoire list (see next page) and one solo piece. The solo piece must represent your current strengths on your chosen instrument. Original compositions or improvisations are acceptable. The solo piece must not be performed with a play along. Jazz requirements (composers): A video of you performing one Jazz standard chosen from the repertoire list (see next page), demonstrating your skills in Jazz improvisation and your ability to play with an ensemble. Have you played any chamber music? How has this improved your musicianship? o To help us assess your music theory knowledge, please identify and describe THREE interesting features of one of your audition pieces (these can be harmonic, rhythmic, or melodic). o What do you want to do once you've finished your studies?

Please send the following items for assessment:

Entry Requirements (2017 entry) • A strong academic record, normally including Music. International students study a wide range

of curriculums, so upon receiving your application we will individually assess whether yourqualifications meet our entry requirements.

• ABRSM Grade 5 Theory qualification or equivalent.• ABRSM Grade 8 Practical standard in principal instrument/voice (assessed at audition).• Applicants whose first language is not English will be required to provide acceptable evidence of

their English language proficiency, as will students who require a Tier 4 Visa to study.
