I used to be unsure about what my future would hold, until I discovered the possiblity of studying design. In this pursuit I have found the moti-vation and drive that I had always been searching for. I love everything creative, such as music, painting, and architecture, and for me design is the perfect medium through which to display my talents.
The will to learn and improve my skills in this area of study motivated me to leave my city, Zaragoza, and come to study at Elisava in Barcelona. What began as an interest in design has evolved into a passion over the last two years of my studies. I have gained valuable knowledge and experience in design and its disciplines, while maintaining the same motivation that drove me to study it seriously in the first place.
Now I would like to expand my horizons by studying abroad. Through getting to know other cultures, I belie-
ve one can gain valuable life experien-ce and see the world from a different point of view.
California College of the Arts is my first choice because of the location, the professors and the design of the curriculum. I am interested in how the school combines design theory and practical application, allowing students the freedom to experiment and innovate within a supervised environment. I am positive that my experience in San Francisco would be a formative and valuable life experience. If I am accepted into the CCA program, I will finally have the opportunity to become fluent in English. My accep-tance into the course would allow me to participate in the unique American vision of design which would not be otherwise possible here in Europe. I´m confident that CCA is the next step in my career path to becoming a professional graphic designer.

This project is a series of design drawings showcasing various artistic techniques. Since I was a child I have been interested in drawing. It has been a hobby which I have enjoyed, but it is also an important tool for communica-ting ideas and concepts.

These works show the evolution of the calligraphic skills I have studied over the past year. The course intro-duced us to the world of calligraphy, something which demands patience and dedication. Throughout the year I improved my skills with various exercises, learning techniques to crea-te better calligraphic works. I was most interested in learning how to balance the precise level of detail required in calligraphy while maintaining the vision of the project as a whole.

For this work I chose a word which I enjoyed and felt a connection with, to create a calligraphic logo based on the italic style. To create this project, I did many tests with different tech-niques and tools. I decided on pentel with black ink for the stroke contrast and the manner in which the ink remains embedded in the paper.

This work was created using the Ca-rolina typeface with a 2.5mm Brause nib. Black ink was used during the process and evaluation of the project, to be later converted to gum arabic and white gouache on black cards-tock. To be able to obtain the correct justification of the left block of text, it was necessary to experiment and measure the length of each sentence. In this way, the final work was clearly organized and laid out, and the text remained compact and vertically alig-ned. This work was one of the most elaborate and complicated, due to the continual concentration required over a long length of time, while maintai-ning a high level of technique.

In this work I simulated the process of designing a product for the GG (Gustavo Gili) editorial company. I created six book covers for the pro-ject. Two of the covers were focused on fashion design, two on graphic design, and two on product design, in this way creating three distinct collections. For this project I made an analysis of the previously published covers of the editorial, comparing the different types of binding used. Although it was not required, my personal investigation allowed me to create many different handmade bindings, furthering my understanding of the types of bindings used in publishing. This gave me more choices to explore while considering the process of designing a book.

This book is part of my collection dedicated to product design. This collection was inspired by designers who are characterized by their use of curves. The idea of the collection was to present the process of designing a unique product, in such a way that the reader can physically interact with the book by opening different elements, such as the covers. In this way the reader receives additional knowledge about what the book contains in a unique fashion.
This collection, dedicated to fashion design, highlights the use of patterns. The tiles used in the backgrounds represent the birthplaces of the two Spanish fashion designers whose use of patterns inspired this project. I employed my own personally desig-ned typeface because of the connec-tion between the process I followed in creating this typeface and fashion design.
In the graphic design collection I used a hard cover binding, because I wanted to create books related to the typographers of the 20th century. Inspired by the grids used by Swiss and German designers in their la-youts, I chose to incorporate this idea into my own project, using the grid as a base to render the name of the designer with raised squares in three dimensions.
This project excited me because of its direct relationship with music. Each student was assigned a different style of music with which to create two posters of various artists, a totem with the concert schedule and a graphic installation in the space, all in the same style. I was assigned the style of reggae. To begin, I made an analysis of reggae posters throughout history, highlighting regular and heavy typefaces in irregular layouts. My primary objective was to main-tain the essence of reggae within a regular layout.

To maintain the essence of the posters analyzed, I used similar colors in a subtle manner. I combi-ned a regular, heavy typeface with a thinner, rounded font to create contrast within the typography and highlight important informa-tion. The lines of text form a unique block, calling attention to the image of the artist within a regular composition layout.

The aim of this project was to rede-sign a magazine. I chose Tattoo Life for its bad layout and its excessive use of images. My objective was to completely redesign the magazine. By creating a large format publication, I targeted a more professional consu-mer and created an almost collectible item. I began with the cover, where I replaced the image of a tattooed woman with an elaborate tattoo design. The cover was matte lamina-ted to imitate the texture of human skin, so that the illustration seems to be actually tattooed upon someones body.

The interior of the magazine uses a six column grid. Special care was taken with the use of space within the page combined with powerful photography to produce a clean layout. One of the biggest problems was to maintain the balance between the text and the negative space on the page due to the large format of the magazine. My final objective was to create coherence between the sections, while showcasing each individual section with its own style.

The basis for this project was to create a new identity for an existing association. I chose a wine association because of their activities, such as excursions to wineries and wine tasting events . The project took a month to complete. During this time I created a basic bran-ding manual for the association. For public outreach I created advertising tools such as flyers and calendars. The final logo is reminiscient of the motion of red wine swirling in a glass. I loved immersing myself in wine culture while working on this project. I met with members of the association to arrive at a solution according to their needs. The project was presented to the association, which is now considering the possibility of applying it to their current branding strategy.

This project involved creating a three-dimensional object from a flat material. I was inspired by the shapes of buildings such as the Guggenheim Museum in Bilbao. I took these shapes and simplified them to create an object with the least number of elements possible. One of the restrictions of the project was that the use of adhesives was prohibited, requiring a new approach to creating a freestanding object.

This was a personal project in which I designed a typeface from scratch. The typeface was born from the idea of recycling an old unused stack of note paper. In the future, I would like to design a manual to show people how to create their own typefaces. The only thing they need is an old block of note paper and their hands. All the letters came from a previous study of how to fold paper with the minimum amount of steps to create a legible and coherent font.I used this typeface in one of my edi-torial projects, as it was related with the concept I wanted to display.Without a doubt, this is one of my best personal projects due to the amount of effort expended and my interest in this area of design. I am sa-tisfied with the result because I have been able to use it in other projects, and hope to again in the future.
