URBAN DESIGN
This project concerns the city of Heraklion and fo-cuses on the northeast section of the Venetian cita-del, the bastion Sabbionara. Inside the bastion’s land filling, an underground landform is proposed, with a three-building core: the municipal conservatory of Heraklion , an auditorium and a public refrac-tory. The composition is defined by clear introver-sion, that refers to the massive fortress architecture. The two main levels of the bastion, the surface and the underground the core, represents the two main functions. The belvedere on the surface, has a clear view of the east city’s side and the seafront. In the underground core, secured outdoor spaces are cre-ated that support the latter functions. The en-trance of the project, is free for all and is accessi-ble from various directions, hallways and arcades.

Isometric
This project constitutes the begin-ning for the renegotiation of the historical bastions’ and citadel’s in-corporation with the city. This in-terference contributes into an essay for the city to gain back elements that are critical for her identity. El-ements of this monument which offer it’s sufficiency and restore it’s role in the urban space. The top elements are the bellow: the rela-tionship between the city and the seafront, the historical citadel’s ab-sorption in a continuously reform-ing city and the subject of secured outdoor spaces in the city’s center, spaces that the city of Heraklion greatly lacks. Namely in this proj-ect, that’s concerning Sabbionara bastion, is attempted the isolation of the urban space from the city’s noise pollution, creating a core of musical events in the soundproof spaces of the monument. And so, the background is born for the city’s community center that will consists a trademark for Heraklion.

Details
The project’s introversion is spotted in the enormous mason-ry combined with the small apertures. The natural lighting fo-cuses on the patios with the lobbies placed perimetrical. The wide scales of the outdoor and public space are being replaced by dark corridors that lead into the patios, source of light and clear air. The program of functions that’s developed under-ground, is punctual with it’s form and function. So the solid mass of the bastion obtains this form of superficial erosion.

Urban design inMenemeni, Thessaloniki (2013)2.
In this project a hill is designed, which is intended to engulf a small community. Cut off from the view and the noise of the central avenue, that locates nearby, it is placed in a privilege spot, next to Thessaloniki’s Central Bus Station. Inside the hill commercial functions take place, offices for the residents to employ, and the main road. The road combined with the underground parkings, serves simultaneously the residents and the round area.
The interior of this lookalike-cra-ter hill, is covered with communal spaces which are in fact public spac-es, sport facilities, sparse and dense vegetation, and paths which con-nect the two clearly defined cores of the west and the east section.
First conceptions / Hill’s sections
The western core consists of housing mixed up with office buildings, workspaces and commercial facilities. This en-semble offers the right conditions for the neighborhood’s proper function and existence. The neighborhood gains it’s own specific identity, which is being modified by the residents, by their choices and the mingling of uses. Those substantially shape the everyday living conditions.

Plans’ chart
Moving on to the east side of the western core, the neighborhood aspect decays, leading to a more discreet and definite plan from the latter. As the density of housing drops, others uses take part. The peak of this contrast are the offices’ build-ings that function inde-pendently compared to the neighborhood’s web.
Western coreOffices’ buildings
The eastern core with the tall trees, the dense shade and vege-tation, creates a relaxing atmosphere that addresses to the res-idents who habitat the outskirts of the puddle. So this part of design occupied the creation of pure housing, paths and arcades that connects the two cores and the underground parking space.
