About meI am a designer from Molde, Norway, and recently completed my masters in Industrial Design at the Norwegian University of Science and Technology.

As a designer, I aim to provide a valuable contribution to products and services by making them aesthetically pleasing, intuitive to use, and adding to the overall function. I find the psychological aspects behind product design particularly fascinating and medical design is one of my passions. My goal is to improve the overall experience of products and services that can be emotionally complicated and provide difficulties for the user.

DEWALT VAACUM CLEANER

As part of a design course focusing on form, this handheld model is a subversion of the classic oval DeWalt design. It allows for a standard rechargeable battery, large suction capacity and a steel tipped nozzle for hazardous debree.

The model is easily emptied by pressing at the sides and removing the black compartment.

ANTARES ROVER

ANTARES RoverA group project comissioned by a norwegian tv-channel (NRK1) for use in a program about Mars. The rover is controlled by an arduino chip connected to a play station controller via blue tooth.

To avoid an ‘umbilical cord’, the rover is running on batteries velcroed to the chassis. The Antares can be steered through both a steering servo and an electronic differential steering.

There is one 55x2 turn RC crawler motor placed in each belt wheel module, lowering the sprung mass. Running with high torque on low rpm, speed is devalued in place of terrain reliability. A GoPro camera installed on a stand send pictures back to HQ.

Completing the Antares Rover is the analytic arm made by a seperate group. This clawshaped construction is made to be able to pick up stones and send a photograph back to HQ.

LEAF Tablelamp ConceptThe weighted foot allows the table lamp to stand comfortably on your table or desk. The myriad of LED lights inside the ‘leaves’ activate by touching the stem, and the intensity can be adjusted by a dimmer.

The leaves are moveable across the ‘branch’, which can also be moved up and down, giving the user a flexible and highly decorative lamp.

Salt&Pepper ShapesAn experiment in shape and proportions, these containers for oil, salt and pepper are interesting, yet harmonious and invite touch.

The containers are injection moulded in plastic or ceramics and open from below.

Showtracker APPThe perfect app for modern audiences. With streaming services like Netflix and Hulu grow-ing and expanding, the tv-show experience has outgrown the medium of television. This app will allow you to keep track of your episodes, remind you of premieres, look at what your friends watch and recomend you other shows, completely independent of your local channels. The water is released via motion sensors and the water holds a constant temperature of a plesant 42 degrees Celcius; perfect for washing. The result is a very fun and different hygienic product.

Rainbow Basin for KidsDesigned to appeal to children, the Rainbow Basin is a simple handwash that inspires daily use for up to 6 children at a time.The basin height is ideal for children between the ages of 4-6, aka preschool or first year of primary school.The basins are moulded in stainless steel while the rainbow tap is injection moulded in polyurethane. VIKING FOOTWEAR

Exploration of Viking Footwear and their branding. The brief was to create a unique and strong visual design. The design aims to incorporate themes characteristic of Norwegian design while keeping a contemporary appearance.

Broadly recognizable Norwegian elements are inflexible and often old fashioned or nationalistic art/graphics, which collides with the objective of keeping the brand updated and modern.

The final concept heavily features Viking’s own logo (a highly stylized axe, or perhaps a horned helmet) and incorporates themes and references to Norwegian design in a stylized manner, Other key elements to emphasize are function and durability communicated via quality materials and production.

Cohesive branding across categories is vital; the stronger the shoes are associated with Viking, the stronger the Norwegian connection.

Concept for a female intermittent catheter. Comes in a discreet, inexpensive and stylish duo foil packet, perfect for keeping in your handbag.The packet opens individually, head first for hygienic removal.

The hydrophilic coating coupled with the unique VaPro technology allows for a virtually friction free insertion.

The handle is Injection moulded TPE, which is non-slippery and allows for flow control by squeezing over the logo. The unique angle of the handle provides an excellent grip and optimal angle for insertion. This allows for easy one-handed insertion, while avoiding getting your hands wet. The materials and production is inteded to be cost effective, considering the product is intented for a single use.

The purpose of this project was to add value to the EmboTrap® Revascularization Device and the Neuravi brand.

The final concept stands out amongst competitors, and provides easy to follow instructions to combat common issues in use. The packaging;

• Stacks well, with all relevant info clearly visible on the back.

• Quick and intuitive to open. The container opens like a book, and ensures the packaging and device is opened sequentially. This makes it possible to inspect the product without breaking any seals and

ensures the content is removed in the correct order.

• Seal adheres to medical guidelines and standards

• Can easily be fitted with anti-theft holograms

• The materials of cardboard and moulded plastic are inexpensive and easy to manufacture and implement

• Instructions (by Enda Carter) focus on easily explaining safe insertion, removal and cleaning of the device, particularly relevant for first time users.

• Inner handle allows for easy handling and unspooling of micro catheter.

CHILDRENS IV STAND

This project took a close look at the different needs associated with childrens use of IV stands in hospitals.

The IVe fills the need for patients who require support for less than 4 IV bags.

With its fun, crown-like shape, the top of the stand has 4 tags to hang bags, reducing the circumference of the top. By centralizing the weight around the pole, the stand is more stable and easy to move, preventing the bags from swinging too much.

The height adjustment has a strong and discreet cruch lock mechanism and is adjustable from 150-175 cm.The coloured section indicates comfortable grip height and makes it easier to place the

IV pump. The 25mm diameter pole provides a comfortable grip.The five 78mm diameter caster wheels are optimal for stability and easy movement without jamming. The two brakes are activated by pressing down a latch with your feet and the colour of the wheels vividly stand out among the usual dreary grey of hospital floors. The center of gravity is placed low in regard to the wheels to prevent tipping, and the shape is organic and playful.

The IVe can come in a range of different colours, making the hospital a more colourful place. The materials enameled steel (pole and wheel rigging), while the wheels are steel, polyamid og rubber. The crown is hard polyamid (PA 66).

An easy, playful IV stand“

The height crutch mechanism is located under the ‘wheel’ handle and adjusts from 155-180cm. The round handle has coloured sections to indicate grip and lies flat so health proffessionals can place medical equipment or journals on it when they administrate medicine.

The bottom has a diameter of 0,5 meters and five caster wheels, two with brakes. The colour vividly stands out amongst the usual dreary grey and black of other hospital equipment. The colour range is limited by imagination only and the additional surface space on the plates allow for personalization in the form of decals or easy-peel stickers.

This IV stand fills the need for patients who might have to move 4 or more IV bags at the same time. The top curves out in three plates that support some of the weight and hide the drip from sight depending on angle. The IVe plus can fit 6 bags and is not limited to standard sizes.

The backplates between the bags support the weight when the stand is moving and reduces the momentum from swinging. Furthermore, the plates hide the bags fully or partially depending on angle. This lets the patient decide how much of the drip they want to see, without indicating discomfort (unlike other IV covers and cases). This could be especially attractive to older children who might feel too ‘grown up’ for the (usually) childish covers/cases, or indeed adult patients.
