ObjectiveCreate a new logo to fit a company or personal image. Design consistent layouts for a business card and letterhead. Use the basic tools of Illustrator & InDesign.

ProcessI first made tons of sketches for a new logo for myself. I then chose the one I liked and made it in Illustrator. I then found some film textures and applied them to my logo in Photoshop. I then used InDesign to put it all together.

  • DescriptionA spiritual montage made by blending multiple images. A demonstration of communication through typography.

ObjectiveCreate a spiritual poster montage using images and type. Create this montage by using a layer mask to blend images. Apply a masked filter to one part of the images.

ProcessI first made a sketch of my design. I used the mask tool in Photoshop to blend all of the photos together. I then set out to find a good font and used different typefaces and point sizes to make certain words stand out. I also used a color filter to make the violet in the stars to be more present.

ObjectiveInform anyone interested in learning about different music. about Tuvan music and throat singing.

ProcessI first sketched my layout and design on a piece of paper. I then made a template so I can figure out how to fold it and cut it. I then put my images in as a rough copy with some filler text. I placed my logo as an Illustrator file into my InDesign. I had to create a new page so I could make my design level and then I tilted it to fit on a 11 x 17 tabloid page.

    Programs usedPhotoshop, Illustrator, InDesign.

  • Natures StageThe Tuvan people are a nomadic people and are often looking for a place to perform their music. They are a spiritual people and often go far to look for the right place. They will often go nd a stream or the side of a mountain to sing. Their singing is a way to imitate natural sounds. The high whistling of the overtones mimic the sound of the birds and winds. The low drone sounds like the voice of a camel or a low wind.

Morin KhuurThe Tuvan people also use two stringed instruments like the morin khuur, also called the horsehead ddle. They use this instrument often times in conjunction with throat singing while using it as a drone. One speci c use for this instrument is to calm a stressed new mother camel. It is a tool to help the mother camel care for her calf.

    Music of the Tuvans

In the deep countries of Mongolia and Tuva, reside a group of nomadic people called the Tuvans. These people, along with caring for their herds of horses, have developed a style of singing called Khoomei, or what is known as Tuvan throat singing. This style of singing uses a deep drone and then they

sing a second pitch with the overtones produced by the shape of their mouth. The overtones, when controlled, can be used to produce a whistling melody. The deep drone created a is called Kargyraa. This is created by using stress in the larynx and creating undertone harmonics.

ObjectiveApply the design principles and use appropriate typography. Incorporate basic InDesign skills to improve basic flier layout. Create a project folder with image, logo and InDesign document to keep links intact.

ProcessI created some sketches and used my favorite sketch as a guide to create this layout in Adobe InDesign. I decided to use light grey boxes as a background for the entire piece to help tie in the grey from the photo. I also added the three box design with the grey from the a in the logo and I used diagonal balance with another box element that was flipped. I then added a black box behind the word Graduate to create more contrast.
