ResearchThe current swimming gears for kids are not well-developed, especially the swimming goggles. In the general research, 83% of kids complained the inconvenient use of certain swimming goggles, and 17% of kids have experienced the safety issues caused by the goggles. These problems need to be concerned indeed.

Every development is aiming towards improving the convenience and experience of swimming goggles use, which will help kids feel more comfortable and enjoy swimming.

Increase the cut-out area to reduce water resistance.

Add rubber bars on the side clips for a better handling.

Add chamfer to the edges which are against the flow.

Unibody lensUnibody design ensures the safety of kids and the durable use of goggles. The gasket rests within the eye orbital, which reduces red marks on face.

Side clipSide clip system changes the traditional approach of users who interact with goggles, and makes it even easier. With this goggle, kids will not have limitation in operating it.

Nose pieceA sponge bar inside the nose piece can maximumly avoid the bruise of nose skin. The nose piece is also a pulling handle for loosening the goggles.

Brass, copper, chrome, nickel, gold-plated, matte or shiny finish, a smooth satin sheen and even faucets with texture are now available to consumers in all price ranges. It is worth every consumer paying more for a product that will outlast, outshine and visually outperform a basic faucet finish. In terms of sheer sales volume, chrome is still the leader.

Center-set: A spout and valves on a single base unit.

Single Hole: A single handle mixing lever, two handles or may be touchless or touch-activated.

Widespread Faucet: A spout with separate hot and cold water handles.

Wall-mounted Faucet: It is designed for freestanding basins.

Market is changing over the time, consumer preferences follow the pattern that from traditional to transitional then to contemporary, while currently, transitional style tends to grow up its popularity in the market according to the market research.

Development

This is a contemporary design with a simple form. However, the current mechanism can not be fitted into the slim body and two handles.

This faucet has a single handle with two water controls. It applies a curve design but the sharp edge may be dangerous for children to use.

With the transitional design, this concept has a stream line form with soft edges. The water outlet is in 30 degree angle, bringing the convenience for using.

Pouring silicone liquid from the edge of the box, until the parts were fully surrounded by liquid.

Waiting for 17-20 hours to cure the silicone mold. Taking the parts out of silicon mold.

Pouring liquid plastic into the silicone mold and waiting for 3-5 minutes until urethane plastic solidified. Taking out the casted parts for the final surface finishing.

4 Common Materials

The majority of pepper gingers and salt shakers on the current market are made either by metal, glass, wood or ceramic. Those materials are both durable and desirable.

In terms of the different mechanism, grinder and shaker can be categorized by rotating, shaking, pushing, and squeezing.

Almost all the pepper grinder in the market are made into cylindrical shape because of the inside mechanism.

Concept 1.0 Concept 2.0

Final Concept

The first concept has a beautiful engraved body design. However, the cross and small blocks on the top of the grinder and shaker are just for aesthetics not usable and user-friendly experience. They need to be improved.

During the second development, both bodies have been redesigned into a cone shape for more stable handling. Top cross and blocks have been changed into more simply cylindrical shapes with more round edges. The whole pair looks more steady and durable.

Woodcraft

Mechanism installationThe mechanism has two parts. The spinning rode has been glued into the top part of grinder. The bottom ceramic grinder is flexible which can be take out when refilling the pepper.

DrillingBoth grinder and shaker need to be drilled in order to create the cavity for mechanism as well as the seasoner.

Scandia Teak Ash & Beech

Scandia teak is a type of hard wood. Using it as the material of pepper grinder can ensure the durability of frequently grinding. Ash and Beech have bright color which indicates the white of salt, compared to Scandia teak the black of pepper.

Cooperative Design

Mosto is a group of unique flat pack shower caddies and closet organizers designed to save room and expand living space. It can be hung on curtain or closet rod. Fully sustainable and user-friendly, Mosto is a perfect buddy for the shower and closet.

Mosto is adjustable and customized to match with each user’s unique storage needs. Users can add multiple layers to it based on their needs. It is easy to assemble and breakdown without any glues or fasteners.

I brainstormed with my co-founder and we divided our project into three sections: product, material and branding. I think a good product should have self-identification in the market, which requires a good branding. Also, in order to make the product be accepted by consumer, its material must have a good quality for its durability and utility.

Modeling and rendering is easy for Me. I used Solidworks and Keyshot to create 3d models based on Illustrator vectors.
