So although more people are developing an interest in street and track running, the

general standard and quality of shoes within the industry appears to be decreasing.

What was classed as entry level shoes about ten years ago are now entry to

middle level standard of shoes. James said.

Events and clubs around Birmingham help to encourage people to take up running

either singularly or as part of a social group. Since the first Birmingham half

marathon in 2008 the number of runners entered has risen from 5,000 to being

capped at 20,000 people in 2013.

the Bupa Great Birmingham Run are encouraging people to get into running and
