PROJECT SUMMARY

Project includes restoration of approximately 30 acres of riparian habitat including conversion of pastures and farm fields to reconnect wetland complexes within the Woodard Bay Natural Resources Conservation Area. Specific restoration actions include weed control, installation of down wood and snags, planting native trees and shrubs, installation of plant protection materials and irrigation and maintenance. Total Project Cost: $400,000.

Estuary Restoration: Removal of Creosoted Structures & Enhancement of Bat Habitat Woodard Bay NRCA, Thurston County, Henderson Inlet

Funding Partners: Washington State Department of Ecology, Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife (WDFW), and RCO.

PROJECT SUMMARY

Project was executed in three phases and included the removal of 2100 tons of creosoted materials from Woodard Bay, Chapman Bay and Henderson Inlet. Portions of the Chapman Bay Pier were reconstructed to enhance habitat for the largest known maternity bat roost in western Washington and pilings were retained to support Harbor Seal haul-out habitat. Total Project Cost: $1.05M.

Project included removal of 765 feet of bulkhead, demolition of 6 structures, excavation of 10,000 cubic yards of fill, installation of 200 pieces of snags and large woody debris, and native plantings to restore a pocket estuary and stream channel on Hood Canal. Total Project Cost: $300,000.
