ZLB Zentral -und Landesbibliothek BerlinCompetition - First stage winners

The new quarter of the Zentral -und Landesbiblio-thek offers the opportunity to integrate the Tempel-hof Park landscape with an active edge to the town and to face the current social challenges of Berlin. The design uses a unique position to generate a structured and open-ended development of Tempelhof field advance. The diverse, dense network of buildings and urban spaces developed a unique spatial language. The new neighborhood is a clear urban facade of the temple Damm and opens the Tempelhof airfield. The entire pedestrian level of the district includes the area around the ZLB and the library building itself in a barrier-free and permeable public space.A subtle differentiation of terrain surfaces organizes this land and marks public and private outdoor spaces without any barriers.

Luxury Wine Resort BolgheriCompetition - First Price

The competition for the Luxury Wine Resort was an occasion to experiment with the opportunities that quality tourism can offer regarding both landscaping and cultural aspects with international interest represented by the Tuscan hinterland. The concept of intervention lies in the relationship it establishes with the existing landscape: hills, vineyards and olive groves, in which the various structures are harmonious, respecting the original topography of the site. The multi-purpose center, containing the lobby, restaurant, spa, and conference rooms, departs in separate zones and has hotel rooms and villas on two floors. The first are placed horizontally between the trees, while the houses follow the slope of the hill along a path of ramps and stairs that lead to the horizon, with a stopover point from which you can see the surrounding countryside to the sea.

ARBO - Bolzano New Railway ArealCompetition - Second Phase

The activity pertains to the railway area of the city of Bolzano, containing all the functions of the passenger and freight station as well as portions of the line coming from the north and south. The area is located between the old city center and the south-ern part which is characterized by a mix of residen-tial uses, crafts, manufacturing and service sectors. The competition involved the development of an urban reorganization project, used to propose operational solutions with regard to the morpho- logical structure of the area, with respect to both functionality and transport, funding arrangements, and the scheduling of the completion of the works. In addition to this scheme, a public green space was designed, and the planivolumetric and architectural intervention was defined, both in major public and private buildings.

Offices ‘Sistema Mose’ VeneziaFinal Design

The Schiera della Novissima at Venice Arsenale was built in the sixteenth century and later rebuilt during the Napoleonic and Austrian eras. The site is now home for a series of valuable architectural works, which are functional and are utilized to transform the use of the area to a tertiary craft. The buildings of the project are designed as a box within a larger box represented by the outer one, whose system returns to the original pattern of the ancient squeri (18 m wide by 38 m in length and a height of 9 m) and able to build galleys side by side. The new volumes are parallel and separated from the walls, the ground floor containing the laborato-ries, with the offices and meeting rooms located on the first level. The longitudinal connection between the sheds, made possible thanks to a shared path, proposes the spatial unity between these buildings, opening some arches which today are buffered.

Mose Project MalamoccoFinal Design

The lagoon that sorrounds Venice changes its volume of water every six hours. The tide repre-sents an indispensable metronome that marks the rhythm of life in Venice. Often, under particular climatic conditions, the tide can be dangerous, provoking an excessively high water level within the basin of the lagoon. Before the year 2012 moveable walls will be constructed at the mouth of the port to regulate the flow of incoming water. The project for the mouth of the Malamocco includes dams, infrastructural works, pedestrian paths, rest areas, artificial dunes in sand and concrete, sloping wooden planes and platforms and parks and natural reserves, in addition to a series of service buildings. The main-operations buildings assume the language of the nautical environment: red and green, used to guide ships as they enter the port. Red to the left and green to the right.

Re-use ‘Ospedale al Mare’Final Design

The reusage project at the Ospedale al Mare at Venice Lido is part of a broader revival of the island, which is a narrow strip of land 12 km long, separat-ing the lagoon from the Adriatc sea, where impor-tant historical monuments and social events take place such as the Venice Film Festival. The need to preserve the original plant, consisting of a series of mid-rise buildings connected to each other via outdoor walkways, has given rise to a new building type characterized by separate bodies inserted in a large pedestrian area. The new complex is designed to house a hotel, a residential area with units ranging from 70 to 300 square meters, a commercial service, as well as underground parking, and services such as a beauty center, a pub, a fitness center, and facilities for bathing.

Tabià Zoldo AltoInterior Design

Located in the heart of the Belluno Dolomites, Zoldo Alto is a cozy mountain village, surrounded by the peaks of Mount Pelmo and Civetta. The tabià, buildings originally used as a stable or barn, now abandoned by pastoralism and agriculture, are converted into luxurious mansions. The buildings, with a masonry ground floor and wood on the upper floors, retain the original shape outwardly, whereas the interior space is reconfigured to adapt to the change of intended use.The interior design of the tabià concerned itself with the division into different environments, creating a loft, and the design of the staircase to access it, as well as, the project of the permanent furniture and the choice, in part, of the mobile ones.

Sewing Social HousingMaster’s Degree Thesis

The thesis it was intended to demonstrate is that, through operational strategies including social housing, it is possible to retrain those parts of the city that for different reasons have problems of poor housing and lack of connection with the territory that surrounds them. The proposed strategies are aimed at carrying out such as an urban mending, a morphological and social recon-nection carried out through complex and partici-patory interventions. The work is divided into three parts: the first on social housing in general, with a brief survey of the phenomenon in Europe and the description of the development of legislation in Italy in the field of housing policy; the second part focuses on the analysis of some recent study cases chosen by the wide european stage; the third is finally on the operational strategies and the project proposed for the urban area of Cosenza.

City CookersRoma Summer School 2009 - Awarded first prize

The Summer School on Urban Design was born in 2001 thanks to an initiative of the department of Architecture and Urban Planning for Engineering of Sapienza University in Rome, with the sponsorship of the International Federation for Housing and Planning (IFHP).The City Cookers group has worked on the area of Romanina, an empty urban space of about 92 acres south of Rome, where the realization of one of the new centers of the Capital has been planned. The group took into account both the project of the architect Manuel Salgado, winner of the international competition for the new center, and the area as it is today, with its visual emergencies. In this way the strengths and weaknesses of the project

Salgado were brought to light, as well as, the salient features of the area. It was therefore decided to retain a strong central axis, but to integrate it with the transverse axes capable of spreading capillary action in the project area. Furthermore, it was thought to insert a green circuit into a system gradients, capable of binding surrounding territory to the area. The central part of the project was then the study of the system of central squares, pedestrian areas, the true focus of the life of the new centrality, and therefore a more functional richness and the ability to attract more inhabitants. To complete the project were paths for soft mobility, which crossed the central pedestrian area in order to ensure greater accessibility to public space.
