THE PROJECT IS A SOCIAL EXPEREMENT IN DOWNTOWN AMMAN AIM TO CONNECT PEOPLE AND ACTIVITIES DISSOLVING THE CULTURAL AND ECONOMIC BARRIERS IN ITS WAY.

amman greater municipality made a general plan for amman, by planning for 20 years in advance, and chose to make an interven-tion in downtown amman next to the roman theater with a touristic approach, by commissioning a fi ve star hotel and an open park with concrete fl ooring and digital screens.

the main idea of the project is to negate that idea and try to direct the municipality to direct their interest on to the people of jordan instead of tourists, making functions that serve their own people.

the suggestion is to make a school of performing art -an affordable hostel - affordable restaurants and open areas, instead of a fi ve star hotel and luxury functions. we brought some of the existing projects that are already done next to the downtown site and analysed them to view that the public are being excluded from the area by building functions that are not necessarily be benifi cial for them

resonance concept

resonating the multiple areas of infl uence to deduce a formlocating in a place by means of structure that utilize the same wavelength as the place

emergence concept

deduction of form from existing areas of infl uencethe promotion of spatial continuity on the basis of physical discontinuity, by means of levels or precincts

sharing concept

utilization in the physical world of the principles that govern the sharing of resorurces in the digital realm, creating the sequence between private spaces and spaces for sharing in proximity

through these concepts the functions of the project were deducted making it resonate with the functions around it and fi lling a missing link between the old and new functions in downtown

the demand for connecting different parts of the city made the project act as a bridge between the area between two hills and across the valley, also the structure was made to connect the public with the project and the roman theater with its functions

campus landscape

Our concept is based on research of Madaba‘s cultural history and heritage. The most prominent and ever occuring part of this is the mosaics. Our plan is to apply these to the open spaces and gathering zones of the campus and then translate them into a three dimensional landscape using hard and soft landscape elements.Just like in the city of Madaba the mosaics are recurring elements of design found throughout the city in places where people spend time together and congregate (churches, family homes, shops). We researched the meanings of the mosaics to fi nd a proper location for them based on their shape and or content.

the workshop was supervised by UTO and CODE-IT teams (rhino and grasshopper programmers) putting new Urban design methods into practice in the Jordani-an desert.

the population of the desert ecologies must be respon-sive to the weather conditions and the most livable situations where a unit needs the lowest amount of energy to function and that depends mostly on posi-tioning. and that is basically what we did in that 10 days workshop.

the process involved wind-topography- steepness-rain and water supply- sun exposure analysis and that was combined into a hedonic map that can create the units arrangement around the site

rem pavilliona pavillion dedicated to rem’s architecture style

Designing a pavillion that goes with the concepts and ideas of Rem Koolhaas.

The pavillion had to reflect his ideas through its vision of space and cinematic experience.

His interest in structure and function helped me mold my pavillions and exhibi-tion spaces, to reflect his experiences and feelings to visitors.

Approaches: Cinematic / Theatrical Architecture /

Moments of suspense / Irritation

al-mahatta regeneration

An urban regeneration class that focused on Al-mahatta Refu-gee camp in Jordan

The task was to understand the fabric of the camp to introduce effective anchors on site to increase cohesion between the camp’s layers

My concept was to introduce supporting structures in certain areas on site that would provide structural, economic and so-cial cohesion.

Areas were defined by the - need for these structures - since the areas in the camp are identified by family names, so each family had a minimum no. of one structure

Construct vertical units of strong structures that will retain themselves and surrounding dwellings. Residents will be involved in the construction process since a lot have a back-ground in the fi eld.

Locate existing open spaces even the ones with low activity in them and revitalize the place by creating an association between each space with a layer of the community. Taking small areas throughout the entire site.

After completing a socio-economic survey of the existing businesses, a new layer of economical activity will be established as to not override the existing ones and also attracting neighbouring communities.e.g. Vegetation industry and teaching centers.

Marketing and enhancing the existing local businesses.e.g. Bakery, construction contractors, clothing retail shops, tailoring, women’s beauty salon.

Canopy Proposal

The project was proposed to be built on the German Jordanian Univer-sity grounds for the Bloom Boom festival.

The team split into two groups each working on a proposal for the canopy, but our group started working together to learn from each other’s experience.

Our design and build project had to be planned in detail as to work with materials and building techniques.

It was an intersting mixture of working on form generating programs and building techniques.

the focus of the supervisors is to introduce me to the maximum amount of construction details and site visits so I can understand the system better, and af-ter I started working with them in some construction details, value assessment and bill of quantities.

a music box representing the students’ idea about certain types of music, in this case I took the concept of arabic music and its complexity.

arabic culture has a history of complexity, articulation and attention to details extending to its music, architecture, art etc...

these thoughts came from dedication to religion and their obligation to a higher power, which was considered in my design.

for my project I chose the oud oriental music to be my inspiration, using arabian caligraphy and cubism to create the shape that I visualized.

a bus station project in the German Jordanian University (a design and build project), the win-ning design will be built on site.

design suggestion no. 1 won the compition and is scheduled to be built in the German Jordanian University site in Mad-aba - Jordan.

proposals were inspired from the original concepts in which the architect who designed GJU had in mind. a post modernist approach was obvious in his work, using local materials and variation of spaces.
