BIOGRAPHY

Deconstruct to construct is what history teaches us. It is how the world evolves through itself in the eye of the fine arts. Having engaged topics as diverse as the impact of poster designs in Nazi Germany, art history, social issues as racism, personal experiences as health issues, my work reproduces familiar visual signs, arranging them into new conceptually artwork. These themes are combined into sculptures, drawings, paintings and digital illustrations that feature realistic and nostalgic qualities. I focus mostly on found objects as my main subject in most of my artworks, “ found “ is my specialty because it also means borrowing what history offers us and to implement it in a more conceptual way. My work aims to add on basic and creative concepts into sustainability and social change. While I use a mixture of materials and visual concepts in each project with consistent methodology, I tend to explore creative ways to construct ideas through experimentations. Although there may not always be conceptual similarities between the different artworks, they are linked by consisting historical and social concerns that are representative. Each project often consists of multiple works, often in a range of different media, grouped around specific themes and meanings. During research and production new areas of interest arise and lead to the next body of work that enrich the art world.

Concept

Functionality is something that we might learn from machines. Moving beyond the idea of the ordinary assumptions of humanistic self-portraits. I examine self-portraits from technological point of view, in other words, from a perspective of “manually” knowing me instead the assuming of knowing me. It is like a playground of my mind and my life. From simple symbols like the written Arabic to the playing music box, the idea is not to solve these secrets to know me, it is the idea of allowing your mind to stimulate similar concept of

functionality to yourselves.

Narrative

The sun was just beginning to go down in the distance, sinking over the Indian Ocean. The sailors on the trading Dhow boat were starting to fold up and heading to sleep when suddenly, a mysterious great black tail-like revealed from the water slicing the sunrays into half. The sailors and the captain were captured by the magnificent view. Quietness and fear dominated the boat. All eyes were waiting in fear to what they witnessed. The surface of the water undulated with some strange disturbance. The boat suddenly leaned into the front, sailors suddenly gazed and fascinated, by a decorative drawing out of green light glowed in the dark. This green surface pulled the sailors towards it. No one knew what was happening; yet they were willingly helpless. Suddenly, the details were clearer, the decorative area was the forehead of the Great Indian kraken, the KudoZ. Gradually the sailors realized that they were gazing at almost point-black range at a huge kraken. Before the sailors were able to carry their weapons, the kraken has already revealed his arms into the dark sky, crushing the boat into pieces and swallows the

greedy sailors who wanted to exploit India.

Narrative

Rising above the earth and soaring through the skies, the lighting birds have been symbols

of power and freedom throughout the ages. These birds link the human world to the divine

or supernatural realms that lie beyond ordinary experience. The lighting Birds are mediators

between humans and the supernatural world and they carry them softly in the sky.

My name is Kaluwa. It is unusual name, yes ? O’well, not for me, says the little girl before

swinging. I am the forgotten one in the unforgotten world of Zuri. The land of beautiful souls.

With every swing I feel like getting near my destination. With my head free, the temptation to

letting go and flying raises by the playful wind. Lift me high, she says. Like a flying Thekwane ,

the Lightning bird, lost in the worlds. My own space is just void but I am the time and space.

Then she flies and swings through the sky, meditating between sunrise and sunset, the world

of sprits.
