DESIGN PROJECT 6:Integration into an environment of specific architectural character

A new “gate” for the archaeological site of Kerameikos

Athens, Greece, 2015

professor: Stavros Gyftopoulos

collaborator: D. Terzi

Page 5: Portfolio Alexandra Trianti

concept scheme

The PROJECT includes the design of the entrance building for the archaelogical site of Kerameikos, Athens.

Our PROPOSAL morphologically consists of two basic elements. A ground surface-slab, orientated parallely to the axis of an important ancient road, whose traces are still visible and two “floating” volumes, whose axis is parallel to the traces of Pompieion, a monument of great importance for the site.

The building is accessed through a ramp, which leads from the ground level to the level of the archaeological site (-5m), thus symbolising a “descendance to the past”.

Analysis of the vernacular settlement of Aghios Georgios Nileias, Mt PelionARCHITECTURAL DESIGN 5A:Systematic Analysis of vernacular buildings and settlements

collaborators: Gianakopoulou I./ Gianakoulia E./ Katsiampi E./ Mavridi A./ Terzi D.

professors: Eleni Alexandrou / Elena Konstantinidou

The project firstly con-sists of an intensive 6-day on-site research, which aims at the com-plete understanding of the settlement as well as the collection of all required material for further anal-ysis. Afterwards, during the semester the material is being clustered, anal-ysed and enriched.

The vernacular settlement is investigated within the following thematics.

A. FORM OF SETTLEMENT Location, tissue, topogra-phy, uses, infrastructure.

B.ARCHITECTURAL TYPOLOGYCategorization of archi-tectural types.

C. SYSTEMATIC DRAWINGDetailed drawing of se-lected buildings.

D. STRUCTURAL ANALYSISTraditional building tecniques and structural details.

E. CONCLUSIONSDegree of preservation for the settlement, perspec-tives.

Primary schoolDESIGN PROJECT 5:Educational and cultural building

Volos, Greece 2014

collaborator: D. Terzi

professor: Vassilis Ganiatsas

The PROJECT includes the design of a pri-mary school for approximately 250 students which also houses cultural facilities for broader use. The site, in the city of Vo-los also includes a former gas factory.

Our PROPOSAL is based on an organic, in-troverted form surrounded by multi-layered “fragmented” outdoor spaces, thus reducing the scale and creating a pleasant atmo-sphere for the children.

Building optimization for tropical locations(Dubai & Mumbai)TROPICAL SOLAR SKIN

Hamburg, Germany 2016

collaborator: L. Elbling

professors: Peter O.Braun / Wolfgang Willkomm

The PROJECT is an introduction to tropical architecture, mainly from technical perspective (use of photovoltaics, solar collec-tors etc.) It also includes an optimization process for an ex-isting Solar Decathlon project to be adapted to tropical loca-tions. As case studies we have chosen Mumbai and Dubai, repre-sentative for wet and dry trop-ical and dry tropical climate accordingly.

Our PROPOSAL suggests alter-ations to the form of the build-ing, such as orientation and openings but also different ma-terials to ensure sustainability and cost efficiency.
