    CONTENTS

  • HIGH LINE - 7 TRAIN CONNECTORHudson Yards, New York NY | design collaboration with J. Magaliff

As a connection between the end of the High Line and 7 Train extension near the Hudson Yards development, the path between incorporates the elements of slow movement and recreational programs of the High Line with the more fast paced nature and spontaneous use of New York subway stations. A straight route down to the subway is surrounded by a slower ramped path with follies of programmed spaces along it that allow users to choose their experience.

  • MUSEO DELLA NAVIGAZIONEFlorence, Italy

This museum of navigation is inspired by an antique instrument in the nearby Galileo Museum that was used in military operations to construct plans based on views and sight lines in perspective. Continuous sight lines are preserved from the piazza and lobby through to the Uffi zi exit north of the site. An Imax theater is embedded within the fl oor plates that serves as an object that guests can use to navigate the museum, as they move under, around, inside, and on top of the theater.

  • LAKE ONONDAGA ECOLOGY CENTEROnondaga Park, Syracuse NY

Located on Lake Onondaga, this ecology center is comprised of both private water quality testing and research facilities, and a public educational component. The two are separated by a shift in fl oor plates but visually connected through a wall of water as it passes through the building for testing and treatment. This wall of water marks the buildings wet corridor, along which water is brought in from the lake for testing and made visible to guests.

  • LE MOYNE COLLEGE ART CENTERLe Moyne College, Syracuse NY

Based on a mapping exercise of the campus circulation and connections via roads, marked paths, and unmarked paths, the art center is situated along common routes of travel. Each entrance to the building gives occupants the option of reaching the major programmatic spaces on the ground level, or taking the faster route on the second level to continue on to their destination with views into the studios and of work on display.

  • HYDROPONIC HOSTELBowery Street, New York NY | design in collaboration with B. Schaller

In order to combine the programs of hostel and greenhouse in an urban setting, stacked rows of hydroponics became the focus of the building.Because the plantings grow in artifi cial light, they could be placed on the ground fl oor rather than the roof and be exposed to the street. Hostel guests rise through the fl oor of hydroponics to reach the second fl oor lobby. A system of beds with movable screens allow hostel fl oors to have an open gridded plan similar to the greenhouse, and hydroponic and planted elements appear at smaller scales on each fl oor.

  • FREED PARKING | TOWARDS A NEW CULTURE OF ARCHITECTURE AND AUTOMOBILITYThesis Research & Design Project

The contemporary driver-dependent American city consists of three major systems: architectural space, car or automotive space, and the driver that moves between these two spatial experiences. These systems are often highly differentiated and exist at odds with each other; expanses of parking are the only transition from car to building. This thesis critiques the effect of the personal automobile on the urban landscape, specifically in driver dependent LA where buildings are scaled to be viewed by the passing automobile, and expanses of parking distort pedestrian space and architectural experience. I contend that the spaces of buildings, automobiles, and pedestrians can be reconciled. All three can share a dynamic space that both accommodates and blurs driver and pedestrian experiences through architecture.
