TMD 427 : Portfolios & PresentationsPortfolio Piece # 3

Page 2: Portfolio #3

• This is some work from my Drawing I class that I took spring semester (Spring 2010) of my junior year at the University of Rhode Island. We worked with pencil, charcoal and chalk to create the drawings on white and colored paper of different textures. Everything in this class was drawn in black and white only. We learned different techniques in order to accentuate shadows, highlights, and depth to create three dimensional drawings.

Page 3: Portfolio #3

* This piece consists of styrofoam spheres and a cup on a table in front of a draped

sheet.

Size: 18 x 24

Materials: Medium Natural White Paper,

Pencil

* This drawing consists of paper intersecting itself. The purpose is to show depth and

shadows.

Size: 18 x 24

Materials: Medium Natural White Paper, Pencil

Page 5: Portfolio #3

* This drawing consists of a piece

of paper rolled into a tube-like

shape. The objective is to show depth,

highlights, and shadows.

Size: 18 x 24

Materials: Medium Natural

White Paper, Pencil

* This is a drawing of different sized American

flags pinned up and draped on a wall.

Size: 18 x 24

Materials: Medium Natural White Paper, Pencil

Page 7: Portfolio #3

* This is a drawing of the same American flags as shown in the previous slide. The point of the drawing was to pick a

smaller area of concentration to

accentuate the highlights and shadows using

charcoal.

Size: 18 x 24

Materials: Medium Natural White Paper,

Charcoal

Page 8: Portfolio #3

* This is a drawing of a piece of

popcorn, which I found to be the

most challenging because the

popcorn is already white and we had to accentuate the

highlights and shadows. We also created a replica

using charcoal and chalk on black

paper.

Size: 18 x 24

Materials: Medium Natural

White Paper, Pencil

Page 9: Portfolio #3

* This drawing is of a cow skull. I also

found this piece to be a challenge because

majority of it was already a light color

and the objective was to balance the shadows and

highlights. Again, we created a replica on

black paper with chalk and charcoal.

Size: 18 x 24

Materials: Medium Natural White Paper,

Pencil

*Our final project of the semester was to choose a plant in the URI

greenhouses and focus on a certain part of that plant we found to be

the most interesting.

White Paper, Pencil
