SYMPHONYThe Symphony contour bench features aluminum casted ends to maintain strength and the illusion of a solid structure, while maintaining a feasible cost.
This was a corporate partnered project. The company specified deliverables and deadlines concluded by a presentation to the CEO and directors.
HAYEXclass project to design a stool from a single 4’x2’ piece of sheet-metal and wood. The stool had to support a minimum of 250lbs and be 18” tall.
Small scale and full size prototyping strategies were
employed, as well as material testing to ensure that the
stool fit all requirements and was able to be assembled
with the tools available.
INTUVATEclass project to create an ice cream scoop handle that was aesthetically pleasing and comfortable to use.
Ergonomics were the focus of this project. It was very important to design a scoop that fit a variety of hand-sizes as well as right and left handed users. Many mockups were made and tested with users until the final design was chosen.
Prototyping began by creating a wooden blank of my chosen design. This blank was used to create a silicone mold which was then filled with fiberglass resin that was degassed via a vacuum chamber. Once the fiberglass set the scoop was removed from the mold and imperfections removed with bondo. Once sanded smooth the scoop was
painted with multiple coats and wet sanded with high grit sandpaper to provide a smooth and shiny finish.
User centric design was the emphasis of this project. Market and user research played a major part in developing this product.

Consumer’s want a higher quality cutting board system that goes with their decor. They are willing to pay more for premium materials and extra features. User’s tend to rate the items on how well they fit
into their specific routine, i.e. How they cook, how they clean up, etc.

Focus group feedback and individual user interviews led
to a realization of the true problem with cutting board
systems. This prompted a redesign from my initial mock-ups and sketches
followed by a final prototype and CAD model.
