ABOUTME

Curious and open-minded, I love to learn, observe and listen to people and hear what their story is. This pushes me to explore

and discover great things both personally and professionally.

Ice hockey, rock climbing, and photography have taught me how to give the best of myself at all times, but also how to work on a team and selfcontrol, values I apply in my everyday life.

I AM PASSIONATE I AM DYNAMIC

USERINSIGHTS

PERFECT TO CLIMB, BUT TERRIBLE TO RESTRock climbing shoes cramp your feet up, allowing you to better hook and hold the wall, a contradicting duality, as they are extremely painful when belaying or resting.

Page 8: Portfolio 2014 Achille Perrin

CONCEPTDETAIL

Inspired by medical strapping, the straps go around the foot, interacting with the sole rather than just the upper in classic shoes, allowing a better and wider control of the shoe.

STRAP AROUND THE FOOT FOR BETTER CONTROL

FORMALSKETCHES

FIT SALEWA’S DESIGN LANGUAGEThe final shape for the shoe was mainly dictated by where the straps should be for the best efficiency, and how I wanted the user to interact with them.

TRAVELLING& SHOES

We are constantly travelling, always adapting to our environment. Shoes mix performance, aesthetics, and comfort, according to what you do and where you go.

A SHOE CAN MAKE OR BREAK YOUR TRIP

Page 14: Portfolio 2014 Achille Perrin

USEROPPORTUNITIES

We created and analysed 15+ potential user profiles, each travelling for a different purpose, to a different place in order to better understand their behaviour.

WHAT THEY NEED, WHAT THEY WANT

Page 15: Portfolio 2014 Achille Perrin

BUSINESSROUTINE

We built a 2 day scenario around our user’s business trip to better understand his needs and wants, in terms of functionality and perception.

POST-ITSESSIONS

We organized quick creativity sessions around different shoe parts and axis that linked back to our target and brief. This allowed us to come up with a large number of ideas.

QUICK IDEATION

Page 17: Portfolio 2014 Achille Perrin

A4 SKETCHESBy mixing post-its together, we created concepts around

five major axis, answering our user’s precise problems, needs and wants. These are the concepts I came up with.

DETAILED CONCEPTS

Page 18: Portfolio 2014 Achille Perrin

3 FINALCONCEPTS

ASSUME, REVEAL, ACTThe first combined two types of shoes into one functional paradox. The second unveiled a sporty look underneeth a formal upper.

Concept renders by Maxime Catteau.

Page 19: Portfolio 2014 Achille Perrin

ACT CONCEPT

I worked on the thrid concept, the idea was to have a shoe with a stretchable upper that changes from a low top to a high top, thus going from a formal mode to a sportable mode.

ONE SHOE = THREE MODES

Page 20: Portfolio 2014 Achille Perrin

FINALPROPOSITION

Our final shoe is cut into two parts, the front is formal and elegant, while the back is active and comfortable, hence creating a formal yet sportable shoe.

DUAL-CORE

Page 21: Portfolio 2014 Achille Perrin

USER SCENARIOAfter writing the storyboard, I was responsible to shoot and

edit a 2min video that retraced our user’s day, in order to properly explain our shoe, and how it was meant to be worn.

CLICK PLAY!

Page 22: Portfolio 2014 Achille Perrin

DESIGNLANGUAGE

Using the paradox between the two cores of the shoe as our key styling element, we merged a strong urban elegance to a dynamic shape, accentuated by sporty details.

A SUPER-TECHNICAL FORMAL SHOE

Page 23: Portfolio 2014 Achille Perrin

In order to confirm the design language and the coherence of our shoe, we imagined what a collection designed with the same spirit could look like. I was responsible for creating the names and the logo.

TOGETHER, WE ARE STRONGER

FORMAL TECHCOLLECTION

Page 24: Portfolio 2014 Achille Perrin

GLOBALEXPERIENCE

The cut on the packaging was aligned to the ones on the shoe for a better display but also to reflect the product’s design values, creating a global experience for the customer.

THE IMPORTANCE OF THE FIRST IMPRESSION

Page 25: Portfolio 2014 Achille Perrin

VISUALIDENTITY

Because this is a formal shoe, we decided to drop off the Nike swoosh, replacing it with a unique and subtler graphic

design, stamped onto the sole when purchasing.

USERINSIGHT

In sports, protective gear is usually perceived as a way to be part of a team, part of the sport. Thus making you proud to wear it, and contributing to your love of the sport.

RECREATE A FEELING

Page 28: Portfolio 2014 Achille Perrin

Modified for speed and handling , the bikes are stripped to their bare essentials, leaving the engine exposed, handlebars are lowered, seats and footrests are moved back.

CAFE RACERS AND RETRO TREND

USERTARGET

Page 29: Portfolio 2014 Achille Perrin

QUICK IDEATION

Putting away the keys on the helmet, forces the user to go by his helmet everytime he wants to go for a ride, thus playing with his guilt if he decides not to wear the helmet.

PLAYING WITH THE USER’S FEELINGS

Page 30: Portfolio 2014 Achille Perrin

SHAPEREFINEMENT

As the café racer vibe and retro trends are growing stronger, I felt that the helmet needed some more modern lines mixed into it, making it more agressive.

Page 33: Portfolio 2014 Achille Perrin

LOOKINGFOR A SHAPE

I already had a good idea of what I wanted to do for this bench, I didn’t want to overthink things, but keep them going. Rapid sketching allowed me to quickly find a final shape.

NEWSKILLS

WORKING WITH NEW SOFTWARESI recently learned how to use Rhino and Keyshot, this quick project was good opportunity to test myself on these new skills, and see which needed improvement.

THE BRANDMY MISSION

Lacroix is a luxury french ski brand, established in 1967, famous for it’s technological skis and high end skiwear. My mission was to renew the ski glove collection.

LUXURY SPORTS COMPANY

Page 38: Portfolio 2014 Achille Perrin

INSPIRATION& CREATIVITYAs I was the only designer in the company, I had to set up my own process, keeping my work as simple as possible for my colleagues to understand quickly and easily.

SETTING UP MY PROCESS

TECHNICALBOOKLET

I was sending the booklets to our manufacturer in Vietnam, this meant they had to be detailed and precise, for the

prototype to match my design in the best possible way.

OTHERWORK

Because Lacroix is a small company, I helped out for the annual inventory, and offered my graphic and 2D skills for catalogues, packagings, posters, and other small tasks.

FEEDBACK

During his internship, Achille had the responsibility to design products for Lacroix and more specifically, ski gloves.

This professional experience allowed him to get used to the imperatives linked to the development of technical outwear and products in general, as well as acquiring and improving his design skills, particularly in the textile domain.

During his internship, Achile turned out be very rigorous and showed initiative by taking his responsibilities. His team work, flexibility and motivation were key to all the projects he was involved in.
