On November 9th, the Portage County 4-H Leaders Association held their 2018 Leader Recognition Banquet at the Portage County Courthouse Annex, Stevens Point. Volunteer 4-H leaders were recognized for their continuous years of service and dedication to youth in the 4-H program.

The Volunteer of the Year Award was presented to Paula Kropidlowski and Nadene Seymour. Paula and Nadene worked as a team to bring the State 4-H Dog Show to Portage County. Without their perseverance and hard work, it is quite likely that there would not have been a state 4-H dog show this year. Paula is a past Portage County 4-H member and for the past five years she has been an active 4-H Leader in the county Dog Project. She is a state certified 4-H dog judge and an active member of the state 4-H Dog Committee. Nadene is a past 4-H member and leader from Washington County. She and her husband Michael have three kids, Mikala, Johnathan, and Jordyn. When she moved to Portage County she was committed to starting a county-wide dog project. Teaming up with Paula they have taken a struggling, almost non-existent dog project to a project that is thriving with new events and exciting youth leadership opportunities. Nadene is also on the state 4-H Dog Committee and a Certified 4-H Dog Judge and an AKC Judge.

The 4-H Alumni Award was presented to Dylan Warzynski. Dylan grew up in Portage County and currently lives in Almond with his wife Frankie. Like his mother he grew up in the Portage County 4-H program where he served as a 4-H member for 10 years in the Almond Busy Bees 4-H Club. Since joining 4-H and as an adult he has dedicated much of his career to agriculture and agriculture projects. He is active in the Animal Sciences particularly in Beef, Sheep and Swine. He is a great advocate for youth in agriculture; encouraging youth to get involved and supporting them when they do. At the fairs he assists during judging and spends most of the weekend in the barn making sure everyone is enjoying a safe, educational, and fun environment. As a 4-Her Dylan has shown or judged livestock at the Amherst and Rosholt Fairs, the Wisconsin State Fair, and the State Meats Judging Contest. He has received the Portage County 4-H Large Animal Science Award, and the Key Award.

The Friend of 4-H Award was presented to Gerard Wroblewski and Lisa Mercurio-Wroblewski. Gerard and Lisa have been involved in the Portage County 4-H Program for many years. Lisa is will be starting her 23rd year as a Portage County 4-H Leader and Gerard his 18th year as 4-H leader. They have four children, Drew, Allison, Frankie, and Karol, who all grew up in Portage County 4-H. Gerard has been an active member of the Portage County Market Animal Committee since 2005 and from 2007 to 2016 he served as Vice-Chair of the committee. Through his dedication, vision, and leadership he has provided strong direction and innovative programs. He organized and co-taught several county-wide market animal committee youth meetings and organized, planned and chaired the Rosholt Fair Market Animal Committee Bidder/Buyer recognition event. Lisa Mercurio-Wroblewski has spent 22 years as a leader in the 4-H program. She has served as an active leader in her community club and strong leader at the County 4-H level. Throughout her career she helped plan, organize and chaperone several educational events and travel experiences. In 2014 she and another leader took 13 youth delegates to our state capital to celebrate our Wisconsin 4-H Centennial and introduce our delegates to their state legislators. Lisa also served on the 4-H Leaders Board as President, Vice President and Director. She has also been an advisor to our 4-H Ambassadors.

Matt Jacowski of the Portage County Agriculture & Extension Education Committee conducted the installation of the 2019 Portage County Adult & Teen Officers. 2019 4-H Leaders Association Board: President: Paula Kropidlowski (County Wide); Vice President: Debra Helbach (Tomorrow River Voyagers); Secretary: Marilyn Pederson (Carson Climbers); Treasurer: Jan Miller (Rosholt Pioneers); Directors: Kathy Glodowski (Nelsonville Zippy Zees), Agnes Mallek (Junction City Golden Stars), Betty Pionek (Casimer Boosters), Michelle Waltenberg (Nelsonville Zippy Zees), Candice Wolosek (Plover Clovers). 2019 4-H Teen Leaders Board: President: Natasha Ockwig (Rosholt Pioneers); Vice President: Alyse Gruna (Rosholt Pioneers) Secretary: Isabella Printz (Rosholt Pioneers); Treasurer: Harleigh Carlson (Nelsonville Zippy Zees); Historian: Cora Kertzman (Rosholt Pioneers); Directors: Abigail Helbach (Tomorrow River Voyagers); Nathan Ockwig (Rosholt Pioneers), Clare Viau (Sunnyside Climbers), and Annika Waltenberg (Nelsonville Zippy Zees).
