As you know I have been calling 4 to 5 members a day to see how everyone is. So far so good, but everyone agrees that they miss our monthly meetings and all the events or trips we normally have. The Jupiter Community Center will be closed until December 31, 2020, unless circumstances improve, which I doubt at this moment. If things improve by January, we might have the scholarship presentation on the first Wednesday in January. The colleges are closed for Christmas break. Stay well, wear your mask, wash your hands and go out for a ride and enjoy Florida’s beautiful scenery. If you’re blue and bored, give me a call, I will try and cheer you up with a joke or two. Christopher Columbus is being eradicated from our history by Black Lives Matter and other groups. Unfortunately many Americans are unaware of the great contributions through the years that Italians have given to our wonderful country. This shows how little respect is given to the Italian immigrants that have contributed so much to our nation for so long. In the past weeks and months numerous works of art from history have been destroyed. When researching I found that approximately eighty four cities in our nation had their statues of Christopher Columbus either removed or they were destroyed. In some cities the statues were removed by their councils, probably never to be seen again. These questions remain unanswered: Will our history remain an unknown to our children? Why do our elected officials sit in the shadows doing nothing as many cities are ravaged? Recently in the quarterly Italian American magazine there was a letter written by Brother Robert M. Ferrito, Pres. of the Commission for Social Justice. When this letter was written, the numerous Columbus statues were only being vandalized or threatened with removal. Since then we have seen numerous attacks all over our country with very severe violence and hate against many of our local, state and federal police. Many Columbus statues have been defaced, thrown in water ways and even decapitated and destroyed. Brother Ferrito said that through petitioning and pressure on public officials, relief would eventually be found. I’m sure the collection of monies is important to fight this horrendous battle. However, I have yet to hear any of our representation local, state, or federal to speak up opposing these outbreaks by Black Lives Matter and other un-American groups. We don’t even hear anything in opposition from our nation’s media. This is why voting will be a law abiding person’s only answer to this predicament. We need some stronger replacements in our local and state offices, candidates that are in tune with their areas and constituents needs. Remember, voting is a huge privilege, so let’s treat it as an important freedom and do it in person. If we can shop in our grocery stores, go to a barbershop or beauty polar we can certainly pull the voting leaver in person. Mailing a ballot presents a whole lot of obstacles. You do want our vote to count! GOODWILL Our deepest sympathies go out to Brother Salvatore Gemellaro and family upon the passing of his daughter, Selena Appel. We are sending good wishes and a speedy recovery to Sister Maria Landi who had been in the hospital for a week with a knee issue. If you know any brother or sister who has been ill, had a birth announce- ment, or has had a death in their family, contact Sister Anna Fattorusso at (561) 775-3030. WE DO CARE.
