Help Port Moody celebrate the diversityof forests, locally and worldwide, bydesigning a forest-themed banner.

The United Nations has declared 2011the International Year of Forests. It’s acelebration of forests and theirimportance in everyday life. Forests arethe homes to a wide range of plants andanimals. Forests work hard to purifywater and air, protect against soil erosionand heavy winds, and preserve biologicaldiversity. Beautiful and awesome, forestsare the inspiration of many a poet,writer,painter and photographer.

HELMET REQUIREMENTS ATPORT MOODY ARENA

***IMPORTANT***CSA approved helmets are MANDATORY forchildren 12 and under during all communityskate sessions. During Family Stick and Pucksessions, children are REQUIRED to wear ahelmet with a face cage.

CSA approved helmets are MANDATORY foradults attending Family Stick & Puck as well asDrop-in Hockey programs. We suggest alladults wear helmets during all communityskate sessions.

We DO NOT suggest bicycle helmets for icesports as they do not offer appropriateprotection during skating activities. Hockey, skior snowboard helmets are suggested for allon-ice participants.

DROP-IN ADULT HOCKEY - Fun hockey for men andwomen ages 18 and over. Recreational drop-in hockeyrequiring full hockey gear for all participants.

ADULT SKATE - For adult skaters 30 years+. A greataddition to your fitness program. Enjoy some lap skating orpractice your skating skills in a designated area.

PARENT & TOT PLAY SKATE - Skating toys are available forplay and to assist new skaters during the session and adesignated area for fun recreational hockey is alsoprovided.“The Hockey Zone” is a recreational non-competitive hockey area for kids from 2-6 years of age whowant to play some fun hockey with mom and dad. For thesafety of the participants, this session is a “plastic stick andpuck zone” only.

FAMILY STICK & PUCK - For parents and children 12 yearsand under. This recreational non-competitive fun hockeysession is ideal for parents and kids who want to enjoy thesport of hockey. The level of play on the ice must be safe forall abilities of children including beginners and the puckmust stay on the ice at all times. Please bring your ownpuck and stick. Children must be supervised by an on-iceparent/adult at all times.

PUBLIC SKATE - For all ages and ability of skater! Only lapskating offered at these sessions. Please ensure children 12and under are wearing CSA approved helmets.

FAMILY SKATE - A fabulous skating session for the wholefamily. All children must be accompanied on ice by aparent/adult supervisor. Special family rates available forthis skate only.

SKATING PRIVATE LESSONSTailored skating lessons to meet your personal requirements. These lessons areavailable to the brand new skater, hockey player or experienced skater whowants to fine tune their skills. One-on-one skating instruction can make all thedifference in your completion of a level, confidence or attaining a personalskating goal. Skate and helmet rentals are included in private skate lesson fee.

Skating – Children

SCHOOLAGE LEVEL 1 (5-8 years)

For ages 5-8 years. For children who have never been on the ice. ChildrenMUST bring and wear a CSA approved hockey helmet. We will work on thefollowing skills: Falling down and getting up, marching, introduction tosnowplow stops, skating across the ice without falling, 2-foot glides, T-position of skates and 2-foot glides on edges.

SCHOOLAGE LEVEL 2

For ages 5-8 years/9-12 years. Designed for 5-8 year olds who have passedLevel 1 or for 9-12 year olds who have never been on the ice. Children MUSTbring and wear a CSA approved hockey helmet. We will work on thefollowing skills: V-push with a glide, 2-foot glides, skating across the icewithout falling, introduction to double sculling, snowplow stops, 1-footglides, introduction to backward skating and introduction to T-pushes.

SCHOOLAGE LEVEL 3

For ages 5-12 years. Children MUST bring & wear a CSA approved hockeyhelmet. We will work on the following skills: skating across the ice withouttoe picks, T-Pushes, intro to 1 foot stops, double sculling, intro to circlethrusts, and 2 foot glides around cones using correct arms for a proper lean,introduction to backwards skating and completion of snowplow stops.

SCHOOLAGE LEVEL 4

For ages 5-12 years. Children MUST bring & wear a CSA approved hockeyhelmet. We will work on the following skills: double sculling, backwardskating, 1-foot stops, 2-foot jumps, circle thrusts, t-pushes, back doublesculling, inside edges, back 2-foot glides, and T-pushes with one foot stop.
