August 27, 2012 Where has time gone? It seems like just yesterday summer had arrived and dockside dining was just opening. Now, suddenly we’re nearing the end of August and are starting to see the weather become slightly cooler (but still very enjoyable). While the season may be changing soon, the Port is still in full swing and we have all sorts of news to share. With no further ado, let’s get to the newest happenings occurring at the Port. Our most exciting announcement (and one we are very enthusiastic about) is the premiere of our texting club. Our new comment cards are arriving from the printers and the new cards not only have a new look, but also will allow for people to supply a cell number and opt in for our texting messages. The Port will be using text messages to supply information and also send exclusive specials and offers to our text subscribers. We will be putting information on our website in the next few weeks, as well as our Facebook page, on the full availability of information from the texting service. For now we currently have the ability to join by texting “Add” or “Subscribe” to our mobile number: (847) 629-0039. You may also text “Hours” to the same number to receive a list of our daily hours of operations. Once you join you will receive our texts, which will feature exclusive offers and specials announcements. We look forward to seeing the new club in full force. Have you sampled our signature Sangria? If not, you’ll have to be sure to stop in and sample this delicious summer treat. Our Wine Steward Marge has carefully selected from the Glunz Family Winery and Cellars, a local business right here in the Chicagoland area. This local selection from Grayslake is a traditional Spanish drink blended of red wine and citrus fruits with a touch of spice. We serve this delicious summer beverage over ice and layer a fruit garnish made up of a cherry, orange, lime, and lemon to add beautiful color to this savory cocktail. Enjoy this summer favorite for a limited time only. Hurry in before it’s gone for the season. We know you’re going to love this treat and come back for it year after year. Keeping on the topic of summer, we are excited to keep Dockside Dining and Doggie Dine Out in full swing into September. We still have numerous sponsors lined up for the upcoming events every Tuesday and Thursday for Doggie Dine Out. The outside crew is optimistic to keep serving outside on the dock as long as the weather permits. We are hoping to remain open through September. We will be having a fan favorite performing on Sunday, September 2 nd , the one and only, Dave Sarkis of the Jersey Boys. We are tremendously

Where has time gone? It seems like just yesterday summer had arrived and dockside dining was just opening. Now, suddenly we’re nearing the end of August and are starting to see the weather become slightly cooler (but still very enjoyable). While the season may be changing soon, the Port is still in full swing and we have all sorts of news to share. With no further ado, let’s get to the newest happenings occurring at the Port.

This local selection from Grayslake is a traditional Spanish drink blended of red wine and citrus fruits with a touch of spice. to add beautiful color to this savory cocktail.

We will be having a fan favorite performing on Sunday, September 2nd, the one and only, Dave Sarkis of the Jersey Boys. We are tremendously

excited to have Dave return to Port Edward and know that he will be drawing a huge entourage. Make sure your arrive early, as Dockside will surely be in demand. Dave will be playing from 2:00 pm – 6:00 pm on the Sunday before Labor Day. Make your plans now to enjoy beautiful weather, delicious cusine, and lively music. What could be better? There’s nothing like taking time to kick back and relax with friends and family. We have a special treat for our long time guests. Some of you may remember when the Port had a pianist, several years back. Well, one of our favorites is returning to the Port to reminisce old times. Ron Vaughan will be back to perform at the Port on Friday, August 31st. Ron was a regular musician at the Port years ago and we are thrilled to have him back to entertain in the Salem Lounge. Come in not only to enjoy the Friday International Seafood Buffet but also relive an old memory.

While Port Edward is usually closed on Mondays…Labor Day is an exception for us. We will have Dockside Dining only beginning at 11:30 am and running through the early evening (and of course weather permitting). Many of us think of Labor Day as just a day off but it encompasses some interesting and fun facts. First and foremost, Labor Day was created to celebrate the economic and social contributions of workers. It is also observed as the symbolic end to the summer and for some, the last time white clothing is considered fashionable. The official beginning of both the NFL and College Football seasons also commences on this day and brings some children disappointment as school usually resumes (for some) the following day. We will be celebrating

mouthwatering food and luscious wine. Be sure to join us and take time to enjoy a day of appreciation for all of the hard work you do each and every day. To make this holiday even more memorable, we will featuring our Cape Cod Clambake! Live from the tank Main Lobster, clams, mussels, sausage, steamed red potatoes, fresh in season corn-on-the -cob, and a mini key lime pie for dessert. Just think, the whole Capecod Clambake and with a gorgeous waterfront seat and all for just $25.99. Join us on Monday, September 3rd and enjoy the day off with relaxation and great company. We would like to Congratulate the Farrell Family for wining our Wine Cork drawing for the month of July. Every month, for each bottle of wine purchased from our cellar, the cork is entered to win a $50 gift card for Port Edward. Even better, the server gets a $50 gift card, too! We also want to congratulate Bob Evertsen of Amish Furniture Gallery for wining lunch (up to a $40 value) on the Porpoise simply for dropping his business card in our jar. Drop your card in and you may win next month. Good luck! Starting October 1st, we will be opening up the 2013 Calendar for the Porpoise and Windmill. For those of you who have special dates in mind, you’ll want to reserve early as popular days such as Valentine’s Day, Sweetest Day, and Specific Anniversaries will go immediately. We still have many available dates for 2012 and have the entire calendar available to confirm immediate

reservation. Please stop in the gift shop and speak with Helen in the evening, or see Elaine at the hostess desk during lunch hours.

It’s never too early to start thinking about Holiday parties. We begin hosting Christmas parties immediately after Thanksgiving and we go immediately into the holiday spirit. We have several options for rooms to accommodate parties of varying sizes. You can contact our banquet manager, Lee Ann, to arrange details at

anytime by calling our main number or email her at [email protected]. She is available all days (except

Sunday) after 3:00 pm. Our guests are at the core of our business. We rely on our guests to give us feedback, comments, suggestions, and even criticism, to help shape our future. Comment cards, vocalization, and reviews are the best method for us to know how we are performing and what our guests think. We’d like to share some of the positive comments we’ve had in just the last week.

Wonderful food, amazing service, and welcoming atmosphere. Incredible all around! –Nicole Semplinski, Crystal Lake

What a fun place to come to! Great atmosphere, great food, and great service! -Rebecca Smith, Lockport

Wonderful! Saw the “Check Please” episode last year and decided this was where I wanted to celebrate my birthday. Excellent food and service. -Donna & Clyde Webster, Rockford

We hope each and every day you take time relax, unwind, and enjoy life. Life goes way too quickly not to take time out for our friends and family. Port Edward embraces family and we think of each of our guests as being a part of what makes the Port the special place that it is today. Thank you for being a part of our family and may life bring you all the best! One of our guests spoke this favorite quote one day during lunch: “Life's journey is not to arrive at the grave safely in a well preserved body, but rather to slip in sideways totally worn out shouting...holy cow...what a ride!” I think our guest has the true idea of life down…live each day to the fullest and enjoy the ride along the way.

Warm Wishes from….Ed, Karen, Lee Ann, CJ, and All of your Port Edward Crew
