August 10, 2012 Greetings! How have we progressed to August already? Wasn’t it just the beginning of summer? It’s amazing how time flies when you’re having fun, especially at the Port. We have all sorts of upcoming events and new happenings coming for your pleasure. In just over a week, Fleet 17 will be presenting their annual Venetian Night. On Saturday, August 18, the fleet will be busy decorating the numerous boats that participate in the amazing show. Beginning at 6:30 at the Fox River Preserve Marina (Barrington) the regatta will get underway and slowly make their way down river to Port Edward. The Port is always the last stop on the Fleets trip, and then the fun really begins. We’ll have Dave Mazzie entertaining in the Salem Lounge and you can bet Jorge, Lola, and Dave will be making the bar hopping. We know the boaters (and all guests for that matter) will want stop in to relax and unwind after showing off their finest on the river. Make sure you arrive early to watch the flotilla float in and enjoy the amazing light show. Enjoy dinner dockside and you’ll have a perfect perspective to see the show. We are still seeking a few sponsors for select Doggie Dine Out nights in September. Each Tuesday and Thursday we have Doggie Dine Out outside for our Dockside dining. For every event, we have a sponsor organization to which we donate 15% of the total proceeds. We are very pleased to provide doggie treats and water to all of the pets that join us Dockside, to make sure all of our furry friends stay hydrated and enjoy the event equally as much. If you are interested in having your organization be the sponsor for one our remaining Doggie Dine Out nights, please call or email us and Lee Ann will be happy to get back to you with additional information and availability. Are you making plans for Labor Day (September 2) yet? We will operate with our usual hours, and as a special treat we’ll have Dave Sarkis of Jersey Boys playing for your entertainment Dockside. Dave will be performing solo from 2:00 – 6:00 pm so make sure you come early and get your spot, as Dockside is a first-come, first-served basis and we know there will be a huge turnout to see this popular musician. Don’t forget you can always enjoy music at Port Edward every Friday and Saturday in the Salem Lounge and during the warmer months, on Sunday Dockside. Check out music line up at www.PortEdward.com.

Greetings!

Are you a big cell phone user? If so, you’ll have to make sure you download Foursquare. Foursquare is a location-based social networking website for mobile devices, such as smartphones. Users "check in" at venues using a mobile website, text messaging or a device-specific application by selecting from a list of venues the application locates nearby. Location is based on GPS hardware in the mobile device or network location provided by the application. Each check-in awards the user points and sometimes "badges". For us at the Port, we use Foursquare to reward, thank, and interact with our guests. We offer deals and specials when you check in with us, and we will soon be adding an incentive for the “Mayor” of Port Edward and for “Swarms”. Check out both our Foursquare and Facebook pages and you might just find new ways to enjoy the Port even more.

In conjunction with cell phone, Port Edward will soon be rolling out a new “texting club”. We will be sending new offers and specials to the members of the club. Look for our new comment cards and be sure to fill out your information so we can let you know when the club goes live. We will be launching this exciting new tool in the next few weeks. We respect our guests privacy and you can rest assured all information is stored securely and is used only for Port Edward related promotions.

We are excited to have the Chicago Gourmets! join us here at the Port on Friday, September 28 for a special culinary event. This popular group who will be featuring Guest of Honor, Carolyn Collins, America’s Queen of Caviar, and founder of Collins Caviar. The event is open to the public and is inviting guests to join them in celebrating Seafood and a specially blended Caviar from Ms. Collins. We will attach a special informational flyer with the surplus of information. If you are interested in joining the events, you may visit Chicago Gourmets! Website to make prepaid reservations. Reservations are accepted on a first-come basis and often sell out early, so make sure to reserve ASAP. For more information, please see the event page on Chicago Gourmets website (once there, scroll down for the Port Edward Event). As a special treat for our guests and readers, we are going to feature a contest every so often. Many of you know that Port Edward has an extensive history and most of our artifacts are either antiques or have significant local history. We will be having a discovery expedition to see how knowledgeable our guests are of the Port. We are hoping this will fun, but also informational and a learning experience to help get more in tuned with Ed Wolowiec’s vision. For our first “challenge” we will award the first fifteen guests who can correctly identify an object within Port Edward that displays the completion date of the Lobster Cove area. Simply find the object and the date then report to the Host desk and let Elaine, Lee Ann, CJ, or one of the crew know. We will have a small token gift for those who correctly report back. Best of luck and enjoy the “hunt”.
