Remembering A Member: Lance Smith

We are sorry

to have to

report the

passing of

fellow PCMC

member,

Lance Smith.

Lance and

his wife San-

dra have

been mem-

bers since

2005 and

until the last

couple of years were very active in club ac-

tivities.

Many of you will remember their pride and

joy, the 2007 fire red metallic coupe,

“1SWTRID,” with it’s impressive artwork and

murals. Some will also remember his love

for playing cards. He was especially happy

when playing teams and the guys outscored

the gals.

He will be missed.

Your gifts and support are a blessing to so many.

EMERGENCY FOOD NETWORK $1,000

EFN partners with 64 emergency food programs in Pierce County and under their fiscal manage-ment our gift will result in $12,000 in nutritious food to meet their goal “that no person goes hun-gry”.

PCMC volunteers participated in two events that repackaged just shy of 20,000 pounds of pro-duce.

ST. FRANCIS HOUSE $1,000

Our gift will be placed in Sister Pat’s discretionary fund to help with unforeseen emergency needs of a client. This donation can help prevent a family from becoming homeless, going without elec-tricity or missing a job interview because they need a bus pass.

Additionally, one half our 50/50 car show raffle, plus pajamas, caps, socks, gloves and personal care items valued at over $1,000 were donated during the year.

CARING FOR KIDS $1,000

This all volunteer organization is helping kids in need in Lakewood, JBLM, Steilacoom and Univer-sity Place. Their August Back to School fair helped 2,450 prepare for the school year. In the month following, they responded to an additional 392 school supply orders, 60 emergency food orders and 114 requests at their clothing bank. In the Clover Park School District alone there are 9,501 kids on free or reduced lunch according to September statistics.

As part of our annual car show PCMC members donated 32 “stuffed” back packs and cash com-bined value of over $1,000. A drive was also held to collect gloves, hats, socks and $280 in McDonald gift cards.

SANTA’S CASTLE $500

Since 1994 volunteers have provided holiday gifts to qualified families of all the armed forces and reserve units based at Joint Base Lewis McChord. Each child receives 2 books, 3 gifts and color-ing books/crayons. Babies receive a stuffed animal, toy and quilt.

Our financial support is supplemented by the club’s toy drive and our year-long 50/50 raffle.

THE TEARS FOUNDATION $500

The foundation seeks to compassionately lift a financial burden from Washington families who have experienced the death of a baby by providing funds to assist with the cost of burial or crema-tion services. Tears also offers free ongoing emotional support in the form of support groups, online support, peer companions and bereavement resources.

KORUM FORD LINCOLN

PCMC added 233 jars of peanut butter to the annual “Filled the Truck Bed Drive” to benefit the Puyallup Valley Food Bank.

NATIVITY HOUSE/PEPSI BOYS

A call went out and PCMC responded collecting 119 pounds of noodles and 324 pounds of sauce to support two Friday night dinners feeding more than 600 individuals.

Pony News December

Hi. Well my names Aaryn. I was born in Virginia but grew up here in this beautiful state of Washington.

I formally worked for Riverside Ford but now work for Idens Dealer Services detailing cars.

This is my second Mustang and I would have Mike and Rachel to thank for starting the love of these amazing cars. Growing up seeing them with their two '03 GTs was amazing.

Mine is a performance white, 2011 5.0 premi-um. I haven’t done much to it yet besides low-ering it a bit, deleting the mufflers and adding a couple visual mods such as blue lug nuts to match the blue calipers and tinted lights all the way around.

I know not many in the club know or have seen me but I will be attending a lot more events here soon.

I would like to thank everyone for the opportuni-ty to be Mustang of the Month!

Aaryn Spear

Thank you Aaryn. Great story and photos. We look forward to seeing more of you.

Informational Article: “The Lawman” So I was watching something on TV recently and

saw a Mustang with what I thought was a unique

story. I did a little research and found the following:

In 1970, Al Eckstrand (lawyer and drag racer)

formed a “Lawman Racing Team.” The purpose of

this team was to travel to US military facilities

around the world and perform demonstrations to

servicemen. These demonstrations were safety ex-

hibitions for “outgoing Vietnam personnel.” (Geoff

Stunkard Mustang Monthly Nov. 1, 2008)

What did they use? A Boss 429 with a super-

charger. It had 780hp. There were 2 built. One was

“destroyed at sea when an 8-ton ship container fell

on it.” (Donald Farr in Mustang 360 Feb. 1. 2004)

The other performed for over “240,000 servicemen”

according to Farr’s article. On the team also were

428 Cobra Jet Mach 1s.

Because military personnel were coming home to

automobiles that might have been very different

from those they had when they left, Eckstrand want-

ed to give them an opportunity to see professionals

handle the power of the new muscle cars. Some

even got a chance to ride in them.

So I continued to do a little research to see if I could

find where this vehicle is now. I really had no solid

luck but did see some information that the one that

had been destroyed was returned to the US and

eventually restored although I am not sure about the

level of restoration.

The following websites are sources for this infor-

mation and have additional information and photos

including some with the soldiers. It sounds like this

was a special program. Some of the soldiers were

brought from the hospitals to see, hear, and ride in

this very powerful automobile.

Museum of Flight Cruise—Nov. 5

Well, we

have definite-

ly turned the

corner into

November

haven’t we?

So this group

of

“Mustangers” are not

going to let a little

rain “dampen” their

cruising spirit. In the

pouring rain 20 club

members with their

12 cars ventured

north to the land of

airplanes housed at

the Museum of Flight

in Seattle.

After a little or-

ganization we

split into 3 groups

for a one hour

tour of the main

floor of the muse-

um. We got history and saw the development of

the airplane. It was amazing to me that in a rel-

atively short period of (1903 to early 1960’s) we

went from basically cloth covered, bridge-like

designed Wright brothers planes running on bi-

cycle parts to the SR-71 (it’s prototype seen

here) still the fastest and highest flying plane

around. And did you see the soup ladles used

for skids on the wings of the old mail plane?

I couldn’t help making comparisons as we

walked through the museum between airplanes

and cars. Early emergency brakes (when they

had them) were sticks that were on levers and

stuck into the dirt. Same as cars. No run ways

just like no roads. Pilot in early passenger

planes was outside just like the early chauffer

driven cars.

(Sorry, once

a teacher

always a

teacher….)

From where

I sat this was

a fun cruise

that included

great things to see and learn, fun people, and

food—always food.

For more photos, check

out photobucket as always.

Puyallup & Sumner Santa Parade 2016

The paperwork will be submitted November 12th so, if you’re like me, you can’t wait

for Saturday, December 3rd to arrive. What a fun day the Santa parade is.

You must have at least 100 lights on your car to enter.

I just want to let everyone know that the cool little suction cups used last year are at

Lowes and Home Depot. They also have abundant supplies of LED lights in assorted

strings of 50 & 100 lights in colors or all white. Remember to power these you will

need an AC inverter to plug into your car’s lighter or AC adapter outlet.

As soon as I receive the information from the Puyallup Downtown Association & the

Sumner Main Street Association with staging directions, I’ll get them out via email.

Anyone interested please call Missy at (253) 565-0592 or email at: maryhelenwill-

[email protected]

Deadline for contacting Missy is Nov 10th
