Name Explanation: Jing, eye; Ming, brightness. The point is located near the eye; its function is to clear the eyes. Classification: The Crossing Point of the Hand and Foot Taiyang, Foot Yangming, Yinqiao and Yangqiao Meridians. Specific Points:

Location: On the face, in the depression closely above the inner canthus. Location (previously defined):

Localization: In sitting or supine position, the point is located 0.1 cun medial to the inner canthus, and 0.1 cun upward, near the medial margin of the orbit. Indications: 1) Ophsthalmopathy: Conjunctival congestion, dizziness, epiphora, itching pain in the inner canthus, pterygium, nebula, blurred vision, myopia, night blindness, color blindness, eye disorders in children due to malnutrition. 2) Other Diseases: Aversion to cold, headache, lumbago. Mechanism of Action: 1) The point lies near the eye, and since all points have local indications, many eye diseases can be treated by puncturing this point. 2) The Urinary Bladder Meridian of Foot Taiyang circulates through the lumbar region. According to the principle that where the meridian passes, where the indications are, this point can be used to treat lumbago and with good results.

Method: Puncture perpendicularly 0.3 cun along the infraorbital ridge. It is not advisable to twist or manipulate the needle with large amplitude. Acupoint Prescriptions: 1) Conjunctival congestion: Jingming (BL 1), Houxi (SI 3), Muchuang (GB 16), Tongziliao (GB 1). (Experience on Acupuncture and Moxibustion Therapy ) 2) Cold tears: Jingming (BL 1), Linqi (GB 15), Fengchi (GB 20), Wangu (SI 4). (Great Compendium of Acupuncture and Moxibustion ) 3) Conjunctivitis: Jingming (BL 1), Hegu (LI 4), Sibai (ST 2). (ibid ) 4) Fluxion of tears: Jingming (BL 1), Yingxiang (LI 20) (The needle is inserted quickly, twisted and twirled lightly without retention). (Songs of Hundreds of Symptoms ) Regional Anatomy: Skin-subcutaneous tissue-orbicular muscle of the eye-upper side of superior lacrimal duct-between internal muscle of the eye and orbital lamina of ethmoid bone. In the superficial layer, there are the supratrochlear nerve of the ophthalmic branches of the trigeminal nerve and the branches or tributaries of the angular artery and vein. In the deep layer, there are the branches or tributaries of the ophthalmic artery and vein, the branches of the ophthalmic nerve and the branches of the oculomotor nerve. Remark: Experiments have shown that puncturing Jingming (BL 1) can slow down the heart rate.
