Introduction

SharePoint Online is a team collaboration tool which will enable individuals and teams to share and

collaborate on content from anywhere and on any device. This workshop will provide a quick

overview of how to create and manage a SharePoint team site to enhance your work efficiency.

How to Apply

Please note the following remarks before applying the SharePoint Online team site.

Team Site is only applicable on department or project team base. Not available to

individual user. Thus, the team site URL SHOULD NOT have any user’s NetID.

Storage: default assignment is 10 GB for whole site no matter how many users is the

members of the site. It can be increased by application with reasonable justification.

Renewal: it is necessary to renew (or re-register) the application every year.

Application: must be endorsed by CLO or project supervisor for students’ application.

Technical support: we only provide technical support on the site setup, account

management, site accessibility and availability troubleshooting etc. We will not

provide site content composing, UI and layout design, workflow design, custom

programming, user training etc.

Building your First Team Site

In this section, we will build your first team site by

1. Changing the look

2. Editing the title, description and logo

3. Adding a new page

4. Editing your first page

The default view of your team site is shown below. All the settings can be changed via the gear icon.

Click Title, description, and logo on Site Settings page.

Enter title, select logo for the site and then click OK.

The title and the logo is then changed.

Enter a page name for the page and click Create.


Introduction of App part and Web part

To show existing libraries and apps and add new app

You could insert some existing App Part and Web Part when editing the content of a page.

The Concept of Site Collection

A parent site may contain several subsites.

Remarks: Please note that the maximum storage of the site collection including all subsites is 1TB.

To create subsite, go to Settings > Site Content > new subsite
