Thirty-eight former Pörringer + Schindler employees are set to join KSB’s valve pro- duction facility in Lünen at the beginning of May. KSB acquired Pörringer + Schindler’s Lünen plant in November last year. • The theme of the Alfa Laval stand at the forthcom- ing Achema show in Frankfurt, Germany will be “A few magic moments”, reflecting the impact the company wants its new products to have on its cus- tomers’ business. • Australia’s Sykes, which manufactures a range of auto- matic self-priming pumps, is looking for European distrib- utors. For further details con- tact Jeff Butler at jb@syke- spumps.com.au. Lowara Srl has renewed its ISO 9001:2000 certifica- tion, issued by IQNet and CISQ/ICIM, for its Montecchio Maggiore and Malé factories in Italy. ITT PRO Services and Geiger Pump and Equip- ment have established a partnership to meet cus- tomers’ service, repairs and maintenance needs in the Mid-Atlantic market. Intelliquip has released version 3.1 of Intelliquip Solutions, its sales automa- tion system for pump com- panies. Intelliquip is cur- rently working with early adopters KSB, Crown Pump, Johnston Pump, Paco Pumps, Sta-Rite Industries and Weir Floway. • 2003 marks Putzmeister Systems Engineering’s 25th year of devising solu- tions for different pumping applications. INVENSYS RETAINS APV PUMPS Ailing engineering group Invensys is narrowing its focus from two core divisions to just one, Production Management, while continu- ing to develop its Rail Systems business. Invensys, which was formed in 1999 with the merg- er of BTR and Siebe, is selling two-thirds of its businesses in a bid to secure its financial position. However Invensys will retain the Production Management division, which includes APV, Avantis, Eurotherm, Foxboro, SimSci- Esscor, Triconex and Wonder- ware. APV makes pumps, valves, homogenizers and heat exchangers as well as systems, which range from unit systems to complete turnkey solutions, including automation, drying, evaporation, distillation and membranes. Invensys plans to divest its holdings either partially or wholly in Baan, Appliance Controls, Climate Controls, Metering Systems, APV Baker, Powerware, Lambda, Teccor and Hansen Trans- missions. These companies will be managed in an expand- ed Development Division, which for the year to March 2002 would have had com- bined revenues of £2.9 billion. Rail Systems will be managed on a stand-alone basis. FLOWSERVE IMPLEMENTS CRM STRATEGY Flowserve is developing a Customer Relationship Management (CRM) strate- gy to improve the ease with which it can offer multiple products from its pump, valve and seal divisions. Working with Computer Sciences Corp (CSC), Flowserve will implement a CRM approach giving the company a comprehensive understanding of its cus- tomers’ needs. “We’re trying to mirror the way many of our customers want to view Flowserve - as a global entity that has a complete snapshot of each customer’s needs and provides the right products to help them meet their specific goals,” says John Jacko, Flowserve’s corporate vice president of marketing and communication. He acknowl- edges that at the moment it is difficult for customers and Flowserve to look across the organization and understand how the key customer require- ments and satisfaction are affected across the divisions. Jacko said that by integrat- ing supply chain planning and CRM, Flowserve would be able to conduct more accurate sales and operations planning. He believes that an integrated CRM approach will enhance Flowserve’s business segment management knowledge about the demand for products, and how that demand impacts manufacturing and engineer- ing. For example, the supply chain system could initiate requests for the supplies nec- essary to create a finished product as soon as a customer places an order. AXFLOW DISTRIBUTES WANNER PUMPS IN FRANCE Following an agreement signed with AB Pompes & Procédés and Wanner International earlier this year, AxFlow SAS now exclusively distributes and services Wanner Hydra Cell pumps in France. Hydra Cell pumps are designed for leak proof pump- ing at high pressure or for pul- sation-free metering of abra- sives, corrosive products, in low or medium viscosities. Pumps and spares are stocked by the AxFlow Service Centre in Montlouis-sur-Loire. AxFlow SAS, previously known in France as VolumAx, specializes in pumps and equipment for difficult liquids. POLYAIR ADDS JACUZZI POOL BUSINESS Polyair Inter Pack Inc is to acquire the swimming pool and pool equipment assets from Jacuzzi Inc and Jacuzzi Leisure Products Inc in a US$41.2 million deal. The assets include the Atlantic Pools trade names and other brand names as well as related accounts receivable, inventory and machinery as well as a licence to use the Jacuzzi trademark on certain products. The product range includes above ground pools, swimming pool pumps and filters. In the last full fiscal year, the acquired businesses gener- ated annual revenues of approximately US$55 million from sales in North America and Europe. This acquisition will increase Polyair’s rev- enues by 50% and establish its Pool Products Group as a stronger player in the North American swimming pool industry. Polyair Inter Pack is a sub- sidiary of Consolidated Mercantile Inc, a management holding company with core interests in packaging, swim- ming pool products, furniture and finance. PUMP OPINION • Asked by www.world- pumps.com whether the world pump market would show growth this year, 71% of respondents said yes, 25% said no, and 4% thought that the market would stay the same.
