Dale Albert Wood, 78, ofFoster, died Sept. 20 in Al-bany following a four-yearbattle with pancreatic can-cer.
He was born in Brainerd,Minn., to Loyd and Laura(Ellis) Wood. The familymoved to Salem when hewas 2 years old.
Dale graduated fromNorth Salem High School in
1955, andfrom Ore-gon StateCollege in1960 witha degree inforest en-gineering.In 1960, her e c e i v e dhis com-mission asa secondlieutenantand served
in the Oregon Army Nation-al Guard for eight years, re-tiring with the rank of cap-tain.
He was hired as a forestengineer by Willamette Na-tional Lumber Company inFoster; the company laterbecame Willamette Indus-tries. Dale held a variety ofpositions during his 35-yeartenure with the companyand retired in 1995, as man-ager of Oregon logging oper-ations for Willamette Indus-tries.
Dale married Joan LouiseKleinke in December of1963.
He is a past master ofSweet Home Masonic LodgeNo. 202 and is a life memberof East Linn Masonic LodgeNo. 44.
Following retirement, heand Joan enjoyed mo-torhome trips to fish, hunt,and explore Oregon and thedesert southwest.
They hiked the Alps ofAustria, Switzerland, France,Italy and Slovenia. Each win-ter they hiked the GrandCanyon.
For many years theymaintained the U.S. ForestryService Weiderman Trail, ahistoric cattle drive routeeast of Sweet Home.
Survivors include his wifeof 51 years, Joan LouiseWood, of Foster; daughters,Laurie Krei, of Pleasant Hill,and Sara (Gary) Blefgen, ofPortland; sister, Karen(LeRoy) Rempel, of Dallas;one granddaughter; and ex-tended family.
Celebration of life is Sat-urday at 10:30 a.m. at JimRiggs Community Center,878 18th Ave., Sweet Home.
At his request, his cre-mains will be spread in theCascades.

James L. “Jim” Pollard, 89,of Dallas, died Sept. 19 inSalem.
He was born to John andPricey Pauley in West Vir-ginia and raised in Kentucky.
He married Mary Jane inNovember of 1956, and theyhad five children.
Jim served in the Navy for20 years, retiring in 1965.After serving in the military,the family moved to Tillam-ook County, where theylived for 20 years.
Jim worked for the Ore-gon State Department ofForestry before starting hisc o m p a n y, T i l l a m o o k
Restoration. They also had afarm where they raisedMurry Green Beef, and hetaught his children the ben-efits of hard work. In 1986,they sold the farm andmoved to Dallas.
His love for farming, mak-ing hay and growing vegeta-bles filled his days. In time,they gave up the cattle busi-
ness andstarted aU-pick ofv a r i o u sfruits andvegetables,especiallytomatoes.
He en-j o y e dm e e t i n gd i f f e r e n tp e o p l ewho wouldc o m e t o
pick, visiting with them andmaking new friends.
He provided much to thegleaners and many charita-ble organizations. His witwas quick, and he enjoyedmaking people smile wher-ever they were. Garage salesand auctions were a greatjoy to him too.
He was preceded in deathby his four siblings and twochildren, Sandy and Cathy.
Survivors include his wifeof more than 58 years, MaryJane; children, Joe, of Wash-ington, and Paul and Fran,both of Oregon; four grand-children; and 14 great-grandchildren.
Interment will be Oct. 8 at2 p.m. at Willamette Nation-al Cemetery, Portland. Cele-bration of his life is noon onOct. 10 at the family farm inDallas. Feel free to bring anartificial flower with yourname on it as a lasting me-morial.

Saige Marie Selwyn, 12, ofGrand Ronde, died Sept. 21.“Pooh Bear Saigie” diedfrom injuries received in abike and auto accident.
She was born in Portlandto Belinda Mercier, her birthmother, and adopted andraised by Anthony Allen andMarcella May Norwest Sel-wyn.
Saige had lived in Port-
land, Sheridan and GrandRonde areas. For the pastthree years, she had attend-ed West Valley ChristianSchool in Grand Ronde.
She was ready to enter theseventh grade at OregonConnections Academy. Saigewas baptized into theCatholic Church on the Sat-urday before she died.
Saige was assertive inthings she tried to achieve.She was a good student andearned As and Bs. She lovedbeading, making rubberband bracelets, sewing,dolls, teaching kids what sheknew, dancing and pow-wows. She loved the eldersof the tribe and always madesure to greet them. Saigealso enjoyed taking a “selfie”with the police officers’
phones.She was

Service was Monday atthe Tribal Gym followed byvault interment at the GrandRonde Tribal Cemetery.

She was born to Charlesand May Anthony at the
family farm home in Golva,N.D.
Lois graduated from highschool in Beach, N.D. In1942, Lois married LyleWeinreis in Carlyle, Mont.Lyle died while serving inWorld War II. They had ason, Robert.
L o i s m a r r i e d N e i lNorthrop in Ollie, Mont., onMay 3, 1947. Neil and Loisspent their first years ofmarriage around the Beacharea where they farmed. In1952, they moved to south-ern Oregon and later settledin Dallas, where they livedfor more than 50 years rais-ing their family.

Lois was a wonderfulcook, seamstress, gardenerbut most of all, a wonderfulmother and grandmother.She always looked forwardto spending time with familyand friends.
Lois moved from the fam-ily home on Hawthorne in2002 to Dallas RetirementVillage, where she residedfor six years. Her family thenrelocated her to the Portlandarea to be closer to them.
She was preceded indeath by her husband, Neil;sister, Violet Weinreis; andher son, Robert Weinreis.
Survivors include herbrothers, Leland Anthony(Louise), of Klamath Falls,and Harold, of White City;daughters, Pat Hoffman(Dale) and Judy Heinemann(Russ), all of Canby; sons,Richard (Carol), of Bend,and Paul (Kelly), of Lake Os-wego; 16 grandchildren; 20great-grandchildren; and ex-tended family.

DOUGLAS LEE WARRENDec. 22, 1928 - Sept. 15, 2015
Douglas Warren died in his sleep athis Monmouth home on the morning ofSeptember 15, 2015. Douglas was born inRichmond, Virginia in 1928. He was theyoungest of six children born to Ward andRuth Peralta Warren. He retired from theLong Beach Navy Shipyard in 1984 wherehe worked as a Marine Machinist. In 1993Douglas and his wife Romaine relocatedfrom San Bernardino, California to Mon-mouth, Oregon where they have lived forthe past twenty-two years. When Douglassettled in Monmouth he discovered thathe had returned to his ancestral roots. Hisgreat-grandfather, Robert J. Hendricks,
was an Oregon Pioneer who arrived in Oregon in 1852 andhomesteaded a farm in Cooper Hollow a few miles south-west of Monmouth.
Douglas was seventeen when World War II ended, buthe wanted to serve so he joined the U.S. Navy in Decemberof 1945. He was discharged from the Navy in 1947 and at-tended a community college, studying mechanics. In 1949he joined the U.S. Army and became a tank mechanic inthe 2nd Infantry Division. In 1950 Douglas met and marriedRomaine, his wife of sixty-four years. Douglas was sentwith his infantry division in 1951 to fight in the KoreanWar.
Douglas is survived by his wife Romaine, and threedaughters, Diana Fowler of Rantoul, Illinois, Lin Kotichesof Running Springs, California and Kathy Ann Phillips ofState College, Pennsylvania. Another daughter, SandiOgendahl preceded Douglas in death in 2012. Douglas isalso survived by nine grandchildren and ten great-grand-children. He is also survived by an older brother, DonaldWard Warren of Fontana, California.
Memorial Services will be held on October 10, 2015 at10:30 AM at Ash Creek Bible Church 1483 N. 16th Street,Monmouth, OR.
In lieu of flowers Romaine has asked that memorialdonations be made to the Polk County Child EvangelismFellowship, P.O. Box 425, Dallas, OR 97338.

July 16, 1927 - September 21, 2015
Leotta Elaine Bush, a resident of Yamhill,
Oregon was born July 16, 1927 in McClay,
Oregon, to Charles Henery and Lucy Mae
Breedon. She was the 12th child born in a
family of 12 children. Leotta was preceded in
death by her parents, her beloved husband of
58 years, Treval Allen Bush; a daughter Elaine
Yvonne Martin; 4 brothers, 5 sisters, 1 grand-
son and a great granddaughter. She is survived
by 3 adult children, Cynthia Lee Bush (Randy), Craig Allen Bush
(Julie), Barbara Ann Bush Mathews (Robert) also a foster daughter
Donna Marie Perry Cabrara; 9 grandchildren, 13 great grandchil-
dren, 2 great great grandchildren and 2 sisters Jessie Clayton and
Pearl Embree.
Leotta loved her family and extended family, camping trips with
children and grandchildren, family reunions and her flower gar-
dens. She worked at Carlton Grade School for 24 years and was
also a 4-H leader. So many things and people were always impor-
tant in her life here on Earth. She will be greatly missed by all.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, October 2, at 1:00 PM
at the chapel of Macy & Son with viewing on Thursday, October
1 from 4-7 PM at the Chapel. Interment will be held at the Ever-
green Memorial Park Cemetery. A potluck will follow the inter-
ment at the American Legion Hall in Carlton.
