politics. The records include audio cassettes, compact discs, and transcripts of the interviews.

RESTRICTIONS

Interviews cannot be used until the transcription is released by the interviewee. The

audio from interviews labeled with an asterisk (*) are closed and unavailable to the public.

PROJECT SKETCH

The Politics in Missouri Oral History Project is conducted by the State Historical Society

of Missouri and is funded by the Missouri General Assembly. Mid- and late-twentieth century

Missouri political history remains an under-studied field, and this project addresses this void by

making a large new resource available to the public and the scholarly community. Details

surrounding historical topics not documented in official or other written sources become the

unique domain and value of these interviews.

The project's initial phase seeks to interview as many former legislators, governors,

lobbyists, and other political participants as possible, representing the widest variety of personal,

professional, and political backgrounds. A later stage of the project will include second sessions

with original interviewees as well as expansion into related fields, such as judiciary

appointments. After a substantial body of material is gathered from the large current pool of

retired political professionals and observers, the project will be ongoing in order to document the

careers of each new round of retirees.

The audio cassettes, compact discs, and transcripts of this project become the property of

the State Historical Society of Missouri, and are housed in its manuscript division, the Western

Historical Manuscript Collection-Columbia.

SCOPE AND CONTENT

The Politics in Missouri Oral History Project Records consist of oral interviews on audio

cassettes and compact discs and transcripts of the interviews. Audio cassettes were used until

2007. After this date, the interviews were recorded digitally and transferred to compact disc.

The recordings are arranged in the order in which they were created; the transcripts are arranged

in the same order. An alphabetical list of the transcripts is included in this inventory and an

index to the transcripts follows this inventory.

Because this is an ongoing project the attached lists of recordings and transcripts might
