Parody Parody: a work that mocks existing works, people, events, or ideas,

etc. for the purpose of entertainment.

-Can be written like Don Quixote, visual like memes or TV shows such as “Family Guy”, or oral like songs (such as Weird Al)

Satire and parody are often used in an integrated manner. For example, skits on “Saturday Night Live” are often a mixture of the two.

Parody is also sometimes considered a technique used within satire instead of being seen as its own genre.

Assignment Choose three of the political cartoons that follow in this

PowerPoint, or find ones on your own, and analyze how they are satirical.

Note that the cartoons are broken up into different categories for you to browse according to interest.

Pay particular attention to why the content of the cartoon is satirical in relation to its context. Also, note the visual features of the cartoon and explain how they create/enhance the satire.

You should write a paragraph analysis for each to put in your Unit 6 folder. Label each paragraph with the category and number of your political cartoon if it’s from this PowerPoint, or if you found ones on your own, please copy and paste the image or link to the image into the assignment.
