Polish Contemporary Art in Canadian Collections
Canadian Polish Initiatives 2007, an organization that promotes Polish-
Canadian art and artists, has initiated a program that recognizes Polish art
within the global art scene. In this first exhibition, Polish Contemporary Art in
Canadian Collections, the concept is to bring together a collection of works
that were created by artists while living in Canada or in Poland.
One purpose of this show is to encourage dialogue and a creative exchange
between cultures. A further mandate is to expand this dialogue to include
a meaningful exchange with artists throughout Europe, and other continents.
Other goals are to encourage people to view works of art, as well as to
introduce the idea of collecting. In order to further this aim, works exhibited
reflect different artistic approaches, sharing stories from artists lives, and
presenting cultural and social materials that provide a context within which
art is brought closer to the public.
This show has been made possible by the generous support of the Polish
Consulate and those collectors who have been kind enough to loan some of
their favourite works.
