British music brought rock and roll back to the United States with a vengeance as the Beatles appeared in 1964.  But they weren’t the only ones that invaded – British actors, movies, television, fashion, Broadway shows and literature flooded our markets during the 1960’s, This series takes a look at how and why we were inundated with James Bond, Twiggy, Oliver!, Lawrence of Arabia, Secret Agent Man, 1984 and dozens of Pop/Rock/Blues Bands.

What Are They Writing? Jewish Playwrights and Jewish Plays 10:00 – 11:00AM | COURSE FEE $61

Instructor: Deborah Baer Mozes, Artistic Director and Founder of Theater Ariel

Jewish playwrights have played a prominent role in the world of theatre. British Director Tyrone Guthrie once said; “If all the Jews were to leave the American theater, it (theatre) would close down about next Thursday.” What are Jewish playwrights exploring in their work? What does their work reveal about American life and values, Jewish thought, life and world affairs? In this interactive hands-on class, we will read and discuss ten-minute plays by American Jewish playwrights to answer the question, what are they writing? Each session will focus on a different theme, time period or issue including Biblical Midrash, American history, the Shoah, American Jewish identity, Israel, family, and faith.

7 WEEKS FEBRUARY 26 – APRIL 16

The History of Broadway from Vaudeville until Present Day 11:15 – 12:15PM | COURSE FEE $54

World War II: Episodes of the Conflict 10:00 – 11:00AM | COURSE FEE $61

Instructor: Herbert Kaufman, MA in Education, Adjunct Professor, Manor College, Editorial Staff, The Civil War NewsThe modern world is still living with the consequences of World War II, the most massive conflict in history, just 25 years after the Great War. The conflict that encompassed nations and locations all around the world changed people views on the war-front as well as on the home front. In this course we will explore episodes known and less known of this War. The story of the attack on Pearl Harbor; the music of WWII; the amazing true story of a bridge too far; how Hollywood portrayed the war; the story of building the atomic bomb; and more.

Instructor: Stan Cutler, Author“Politics in the Cyber Age” is a new look at political communication, focusing on the news industry’s influence on culture. Instructor: Dr. Moylan Mills, Professor of Integrative Arts, Penn State UniversityIf you are a film aficionado, then this is the place to be on Thursday mornings. Join in the lively conversation about the most current movies along with directors, actors and theatre productions. We will analyze, evaluate and debate selected films and plays.

Instructors: Buntzie Ellis Churchill, Former President of the World Affairs Council of Philadelphia; Susan Myers, Brandeis University, Member, JSPAN, Adult Education Lecturer; Dr. William Rosenberg, Author and Media Commentator; Professor of Political Science, Drexel UniversityJoin us as three different and respected speakers discuss various current topics. In one session Buntzie Churchill will discuss Antisemitism - Then and Now, Here and There; Susan Myers will give her analysis of the current news for four sessions; and Dr. Bill Rosenberg will conclude the last three weeks with his take on current political affairs. Bill Rosenberg will conclude the last three weeks discussing: The Science and Politics of Polling; The Role of Public Opinion in Politics; and the Mueller Probe.

You will learn the fundamentals and strategy of the modern American version of the game and in 6 sessions, you will gain the foundation and ability to enjoy the game and start playing. Getting to Know Your iPad 12:30 – 2:30PM | COURSE FEE $40

Instructor: Nina Epstein, Information Technology Consultant You have just purchased a new iPad, but are uncertain about how to use it or really enjoy it. You have heard about it and are curious about it. What can you do with it? Should you buy one? These and other questions will be answered in this fun, hands-on class. Discover some of the wonders of the iPad and learn how to become more productive and more comfortable with this technology. Students with an iPad should bring it to class and are encouraged to discuss their favorite apps and ask questions.

Tai Chi 12:30 – 1:30PM | COURSE FEE $61

Instructor: Anthony Saguto, Certified Tai Chi Instructor Tai Chi, the ancient Chinese exercise, is one of the most effective exercises for health of mind and body. This is an art with great depth of knowledge and skill, yet it can be easy to learn and quickly delivers its health benefits. For many, it continues as a lifelong journey. This is an opportunity to learn and practice this art that fits all ages and skills.
