Me, You, and Fireworks

The year is 22XX. The world we know is inhabited with humans, animals, and creatures with unique powers. We humans took to calling these fascinating creatures: Pokemon. Pokemon and humans have a very special bond. Pokemon benefit humans in numerous ways. They can become life-long companions, helping around the house and making life a bit easier. Some even provide power for towns and villages, making their presence a necessary commodity. Though, Pokemon aren't the only one who benefit from this bond. Some people become Pokemon Rangers; humans who help Pokemon defend their natural habitat from poachers and natural disasters. Others become Pokemon Professors: Pokemon experts who study the nature and evolution of Pokemon. If the trust between both Pokemon and human are strong enough, the person becomes a Trainer. Trainer's use their Pokemon in an event known as Trainer Clash. A Clash occurs when two trainers agree to use their Pokemon for battling purposes. A Clash ends when all of ones Pokemon are unable to battle. However, a new trend in Trainer Clashes has appeared. Trainers now fight with their Pokemon during the clash and the clash ends if one trainer is unable to give orders and battle. Though Pokemon and humans coexist and form bonds, there are many who exploit these bonds and only view Pokemon as tools and, like all tools, must be used. There are those out there who use Pokemon to commit evil and horrible crimes. Crimes of robbery, corruption, murder; these are things even Pokemon are not immune to. With many viewing them as objects, are Pokemon and humans truly equal?

Atera Town, west of the Sinnoh region.

Whoa, did you see that? That move was awesome!

Well that's a Golem for you, it's one of the few Pokemon with excellent defense. That Rhydon never stood a chance.

Two boys sit in front of a TV, broadcasting a battle between the Elite 4 and a challenger. The youngest is named Firi, age 5 and the oldest is Kiri, age 10. Wait, that Rhydon used Horn Drill, shouldn't it'd been a one hit knockout? Firi questioned, as he looked at his brother. Well...you're right about the one hit K.O., but Horn Drill takes a lot of concentration to actually hit. What's worse is that Golem looks stronger than Rhydon. The Pokemon using Horn Drill have to be stronger than the other Pokemon. Also, I heard that the trainer knows some pretty strong martial arts. If he had attacked Finna, Im sure he wouldve beaten her. She's a top class boxer but once she's on the ground, she's finished. As he was explaining, Firi looked on in amazement, wondering if anyone was stronger than his brother. Kiri's knowledge of Pokemon and their moves were extensive. His first Pokemon battle was at the age of 7, it was against a former Gym Leader. During the course of the battle, his Pokemon never lost an inch of health and his opponent was overwhelmed, confused on how such a young boy can show that much ferocity. He is also regarded as a genius in martial arts, able to read and adapt to an opponents movements and counter-attack. At 8, he learned and perfected the Ha-Shin-Ren, a breathing technique that allowed the user to gain a significant boost in strength and speed, thought only achieved during the age 15 and impossible to learn earlier due to the lungs not being fully developed. His training came from his father and mother, Cheri and Calem, both of whom were former Pokemon Champions. I wish I was as strong as you and dad, but I could never get Pokemon to listen to me and my form sucks. Firi's eyes drifted to the floor, his smile fading, but Kiri patted him in the head and smiled. Easy there lil' bro, your still just a kid and Pops won't train you till another year. Just wait till then and I bet you'll be as great as me or pops. Maybe even better! Besides, me and pops aren't that strong. There are legends of a trainer who's a master of all Pokemon! His martial power is so great, he can wipe out entire armies! Firi's eyes widened with excitement, could there be a person as strong as the legends describe? Just then, a voice came from the doorway. It's one of the most important days in your life, and I find you watching TV? The boys both turned around to see an imposing figure, smiling. Calem was a built man, taller than an average with a full beard and dark hair. He was known to be very humble, often helping others and solving disputes. In a clash, however, all that fades and he becomes a demon. Calem believes that holding back is an insult to ones pride and that in all matches, one must give it everything. His Pokemon were as relentless as he was, especially his Aggron, often going up against opposing types and completely decimating them. During his time, he earned the nickname: Asura. Sorry Pops, I wanted to hang out with Firi a little longer. Kiri said, as he walked towards the door. Calem knew all to well what his son was going through. I understand, I know it's hard and Im proud of both you, but Kiri, once you begin, I promise it will be the greatest experience you ever have. They both walked off, heading for the front door way when Calem turned to Firi. Your mom's outside by the table, you think you can help her with the set up, sport? Firi nodded, and headed to where his mother was. A warm breeze ran through his face as he stepped outside, the scent of the Leppa Berry, a berry the town is known for, filled the air. Atera Town was a medium sized village, nestled under a cliff. To prevent rock slides, the cliff was spanned by a man made wall that is in constant supervision by ground-type Pokemon. Around the village, were plains that ran as far as the eye can see and were perfect for grazing Pokemon. As he reached the table, A rather small woman with an slender figure was waiting for him, a Taillow flew around her, almost elegantly. There you are. I'm almost finished with everything except for hanging the decorations. I know how you like to put them up yourself. Cheri was very beautiful woman with shinning black hair and smooth skin. Her clashes were as equally beautiful. She would dazzle her opponent and the crowd with quick reflexes and a sharp mind. When the opponent went on the offense, that's when she truly shined. She and her famed Glaceon excelled at defense, often creating barriers and lowering attributes. Cheri created the martial art: Sui-go-mai, which was the art of intercepting the opponents attacks with your own. No one had ever broke through her impregnable defense except one man: Calem. Her legendary beauty and defense earned her the nickname: Diamond Cheri. She smiled at Firi, holding out an end of a sign that read: Good Luck. Firi smiled back and took the end of the sign, reaching for the end of a pole while Cheri lifted him up. Tailow took the other end and place it on his own pole. They stepped back to admire their work. Beautiful, I hope your brother likes what we've done. Firi looked at his mother with delight. I bet he loves it.

What followed was the grandest party the town had ever seen. Everyone had heard their little genius was leaving for his journey and came to pay their respects. The mayor had invited the best musicians to appear and they filled the town with extravagant music. Both Pokemon and Human danced and partied, all the while knowing the festivities would soon be over. As the sun dipped over the horizon and the moon peaked, it was time for Kiri to leave. The town gathered around the entrance and Kiri walked towards the gate. As he was leaving, Cheri and Calem went to him and told him where he needed to go. Remember what we talked about, head west towards Eterna City and look for the lab of Professor Hickory. He's a good person and a very good friend of ours. He'll get you your first Pokemon. He smiled and gave them a hug, then looked towards Firi and came up to him. The young boy was on the verge of tears. Do you really have to go? Can't you stay here, with us? Kiri smiled and patted his little brother's head. If I did that, then when you start your own journey, you wouldn't have a hand to reach out to you when you fall. Don't worry little bro, I'll be back. Firi hugged his brother, tears now falling from his face. You promise you'll come back? Kiri looked around to see the faces that took care of him through the years, remembering how special they are to him. Yea...and when I do, Ill be the Pokemon Champion and Ill protect this village. Until then, it's up to you to do that Firi. With one final smile, he headed towards the start of his destiny. Calem and Cheri had one final surprise. Calem brought out his Charzard, Cheri her Beautifly. They signaled their pokemon and the two flew up into the air, Charzard launching Fire Burst while Beatifly used Energy Ball. When the moves collided, it created dazzling fireworks, bursting with a red and orange hue, then brilliantly fading to green. Then Calem reached for Cheri and Firi, and pulled them close. His voice began to soften so that only Cheri and Firi would be able to hear: We like fireworks. We climb, shine and always go our separate ways and become further apart. But even if that time comes, let's not disappear like a firework, and continue to shine... forever.

Chapter 00

Defiant Nocturne

2 years have passed since Kiri left the Atera Town. Firi, now age 7, has trained day in and day out in the hopes of one day starting his own journey and fighting side by side with his brother. He trained with his mother, learning Pokemon types, battle strategies, what moves different Pokemon could learn and how affective they were, and which combination of Pokemon types compliment the other. When his lessons of Pokemon were finished, his father trained him in the art of Tai-Hyep-Guyung: Enlightenment of the Perceiving Fist. He would train his body, learning the proper techniques of the art, when to use it, and how affective it was in different situations. As his training proceeded, Calem and Cheri realized something: he was every bit of a genius as his brother was, maybe even more! Firi never forgot about his brother as he was training, wondering what adventure his brother was getting into. Almost every morning, before he would start his lessons, he would check for letters from his brother. Kiri would send letters to his family every month, detailing his adventures and the people he met. One such letter, Firi read, contained an adventure he had in Azlea City, in which he met a girl named Ariana, whom he rescued from slave traders. She was part of an International Police Force but was caught during a mission to infiltrate and destroy a hideout of an evil organization: Team Galactic. She enlisted Kiri's help and together, destroyed the organization and their hideout. After the ordeal, she would become Kiri's traveling companion. There were news articles and stories about the rising trainer Kiri, detailing how he beat the gym leaders of Sinnoh in mere months, or of how he saved a village from rampaging Gyaradoses. But then, out of nowhere, the articles stopped and the mail box empty. No word of Kiri was heard, no mention of if he succeeded in his journey, nothing.

We bring you an important announcement! The TV blared as Firi noticed it, fresh from training and gulping down some water. We are proud to announce the new Champion of the Sinnoh Region! When he heard this, Firi instantly ran towards the TV, his eyes glued to the screen. The new Champion is: Ariana from Twinleaf! Firi dropped his water bottle, his mouth open and his mind in circles. This was the girl who was traveling with him, he thought, does that mean he lost? Firi couldn't believe his brother would lose. The only person he knew who could beat Kiri was their father. He ran towards his parents to tell them the news. When Calem and Cheri heard this, they were saddened, but still proud of their son and what he accomplished. The both rushed to their son's room to get it ready and got to work on planning the coming home party. They knew that there son was finally coming home. Firi thought that his brother could come home at anytime, so he decided to catch some of his brother's favorite fish to eat with him.Mom! I'm gonna head over to the river to get some Rainbow Trout, that cool?! Cheri was doing the laundry, too busy to even hear what her son had said Alright, that's fine! Firi grabbed his fishing net, and headed for the river. His father was out in the front of the house, fixing the wooden gate with his Machamp, when he saw Firi. You heading for the river? You know your horrible at fishing. he laughed as he gave Machamp some wooden planks. Firi heard this and instantly frowned. You don't have to be so mean, I'm pretty sure I could catch more fish than you. Calem smirked, knowing full well how easy it was to tease his son. I bet you could, sport. Tell you what, I'll come with you and help you catch some fish. Firi realized what his father was trying to do, as he stepped back from his reach. Oh no you don't! You have to fix the gate you broke while training with Machamp. If you don't, Mom'll get pretty mad. Calem shuddered at the thought of his wife's temper. Between facing her fury or battling an angry Tyrannitar, he would take his chances with the Tyrannitar. Calem nodded at his son, and continued his work, while Firi headed for the river. All was quiet around the bank of the river, except for the various cries and melodies of the different Pokemon. It was a hidden place both he and Kiri found when they were just boys, in which only Pokemon ever came to relax. Firi settled in a spot near the river, placed some bait on the hook and cast the line. As he was waiting for a bite, he dreamed of all the adventures he would get into during his own journey. He wondered what his first Pokemon would be and all the trainers he would meet along the way, the amazing clashes he would win. As he lay dreaming, the warm gentle breeze kissed his face and he began to close his eyes softly, drifting into a soothing sleep.

Firi awoke to the smells of smoke and fire drifting through the night air and what seemed to be voices shouting in the distance. Someone must be camping near here, he thought. As he got up and shook the sleepiness that was left in him, a horrible realization came to his mind: The smell was too strong to be a campfire, the direction of the smoke was coming from Atera Town, and the shouting was actually screams. Firi raced back to his home, ignoring the branches and stones which cut and bruised his body. He hoped it was all a misunderstanding on his part, hoping that the smoke was a sign that his brother was home and the town was celebrating. He his hoped was destroyed when he reached the gate of the town. He stared at he scene with a horrified look, a look of utter disbelief. The buildings were all but destroyed, leaving twisted shells of the architecture. Body parts of the towns folk could be seen near piles of fallen houses, a sign that most did not make it. Screams of horrified people could be heard through out the town and the cries of children, wondering where their parents were. He could not believe what was happening, a moment ago, the town was radiant, full of people ready to live their lives to the fullest. Now, all thats left was the chard remains of a once peaceful village. Then a roar rang through the remains of the village, shaking the boy's very soul. He trembled as he looked towards the origin of the terrifying roar. What he saw was a monstrous creature, unsure whether it was a Pokemon or an animal. It was taller than the cliff around the village. It had a grayish color to it's body with purple like stripes spanning its arms and legs. On it's shoulders was a pearl like object, shining as the moonlight touches it. As he was staring at the creature, wondering it's intent, a group Trainers riding on Pigeots and Dragonites flew towards the monstrosity, letting off Razor Winds and Dragon Pulses. On the cliff, Arcanines and Magnetons let lose a fury of Thunderbolts and Fire Blasts. The Pokemon Rangers were here. The beast flinched and roared as each attack hit, waving it's arms at the attackers. Firi made his way towards the center of the town, looking for his mother and father, whom he had not seen since he came back. Not one thought of their deaths ran through his mind as he was searching. He knew they were alive, they had to be alive. And there they were, directing all that was left of the villagers in the town. He was beginning to run towards them, when he glanced at the battle above him. There was something different about the monster, now standing eerily still. His head was thrown back, mouth gaped, and the pearl was glowing a purplish tint. Then it came. The creature roared and slashed through the air, tearing a hole through it. A blinding light flashed across the sky and the earth shook vigorously. When it was over, Firi looked to see what in the world had happened. The Rangers and their Pokemon were gone...that attack had completely decimated them. He just stood there, not knowing what he just saw. Questions ran through his mind, why is it attacking, is anyone controlling this monster, but the most prevalent one: where was Kiri? He promised to return and protect the village, and when the town needed protecting, he was no where to be found. There was no doubt he could have stopped this, he thought to himself. Did his brother lie and...abandon his home? A voice snapped him out of confusion. Firi! What are you doing here? RUN! His mother signaling him to get away, pointing to where the other villagers were headed. The beast noticed them, and began to head towards them, each stomp rocking the ground. Firi did not want to run, he did not want to abandon his home, now turned to ash, he did not want to abandon his mother and father, he just wanted everything to go back to the way things were, a peaceful life in a peaceful home. His father now trying to get him to run Firi, look at me, it's gonna be alright. Just run, don't look back. We'll be right behind you I promi- They never saw it coming. There was nothing the boy could have done and he knew it. In the blink of an eye...his parents were gone. The monster's foot, now in place of where his parents stood. He stood there in shock, hoping all of this was a sick dream and that he was still back at the river sleeping. The monster stomped again and the force flew Firi against a stand, a tip of a broken pole going through his left arm. The pain assured the boy that this was all too real and that he was truly alone. He looked up at the beautiful night sky, scared by the rising smoke and whispered, Brother, you lied. With one final, defiant yell, he closed his eyes and accepted his fate.

Chapter 01

Lonely Road Rhapsody

A cry rings out, as sunlight touches the tip of a small house. A young man sits upright on his bed, rubbing his eyes, and and stretching out the dreariness. I thought Id stopped dreaming that...a long time ago... He got up and opened the window to let in the warm morning air, watching as the Sparrows fly towards the horizon. Heading towards the door, he rubbed his left arm, an old wound acting up. Today was the day he had been waiting for; today was the start of his destiny.

Arabor Village, Northern Sinnoh

6 years has passed since the event the people called: The Bursa Calamity. The Calamity brought fourth a number of monstrous creatures, rumored to have been legendary Pokemon. During the event, a total of 12 cities and villages were destroyed by the rampaging Pokemon, the death toll numbered at the thousands. What was left of each village was a large crater, to big to comprehend. It was if the towns never existed, the inner bowl of the crater smooth and deep. There were plans and efforts to rebuild the towns, gaining ground from various funds and volunteers. All that stopped when a strange group of people protested the reconstruction, creating shrines and praying in front of the crater. They called themselves: Worshipers of the Original, a new religious group, though most people write them off as a cult. They view the calamity as a punishment from a god, angry of the way Pokemon and Humans are mistreated. They are sometimes seen making pilgrimages to each site, chanting and performing weird rituals, wearing a white hooded robe and extravagant belt. Some claim the rituals they perform to be sacrifices. In their minds, by performing these pilgrimages and rituals, they spare the world from another calamity. After completing his daily chores, Firi saw some of them head towards the Atera Crater, bringing with candles and accompanied by their Pokemon. He stared for awhile, then gave small chuckle and went about his business. In his mind, if some other worldly being let this atrocity happen, no amount of chanting or prayer would stop them from doing it again. After Firi lost consciousness during the attack, he awoke at Arabor General Hospital lying in a bed, confused and with no recollection of how he arrived there. When questioning the staff, they said he arrived with the other wounded refugees, no one was with him. When his arm had healed and he was discharged, a tall woman with blonde hair and a gentle face was waiting for him. Fria was a good friend of Cheri, almost like a sister and often the first to be called during an emergency. When they were young, she was Cheri's rival though was always one step behind her and never actually defeated her in a clash. Still, their friendship never wavered and they finished their journey together, Cheri becoming Pokemon Champion, Fria: an Elite 4. She understood the boy's loss, losing her husband to an accident, and knowing someone of his age should not go through this alone. She asked if he wanted to stay with him, offering the old room of her son, who too became an Elite 4. Firi agreed and has lived in that room ever since, doing chores and taking care of the house hold Pokemon, his way of repaying her kindness. She also trained the boy, teaching her a technique she learned as a Pokemon trainer known as: Shi-ryu-ken. A technique that took the users ki and concentrates it around the user body, reducing the damage of an attack. Firi reached the front door and stepped inside the house. I'm Back, I got the stuff Auntie Fria! Firi waited for a response, but none was given. He could have sworn she was here, seeing her when he left for the market. Are you still here? He stepped into to the kitchen and was greeted by a pleasant surprise. Surprise! You took your sweet time at the market so I kind of ate some of the cake She laughed and placed the cake ontp the counter, a piece of it already cut out. There was frosting in a shape of a pokeball and lettering on the cake: Good luck. Firi smiled softly, honored that she cared for him like he was her own. You didn't have to do this, you know Fria smiled, cutting a piece of the cake and handing it to Firi You're right, I didn't have to. I wanted too! Her smile faded and she began staring at the window Though...you don't have to go...you could just stay here. Fria had enjoyed the company Firi brought to her, breaking the loneliness that was felt when her son left. I know, but I have to do this...I need answers and he has a lot to answer for. Fria knew there was no persuading him and had accepted it. When you find him, go easy on him. You both are good people and Im sure he had his reasons. Fria reached under the counter and gave Firi a backpack. Here, I packed this for you. I know how forgetful you are so I packed everything you need. Take some sandwiches from the fridge, too. As she was speaking, Firi went up and gave her hug, surprising her. Thank you auntie Fria, for everything. I don't know what'd I done if you didn't take care of me. When Im done, I promise to come back. She hugged back, tears forming in her eyes I should be thanking you kiddo, you brought life back into this lonely life of mine. Come back soon, ok? And remember: You don't think you're strong enough? You are. You're afraid. Don't be. You have all the weapons you need. Fight. Firi gave one last hug and went on his way. As he was walking towards the gate, he looked around at his foster home, watching as the people go about their daily lives. Arabor town was different from his Areta town. The town sat near the ocean and was a port town, often receiving goods from various ships. The breeze always smelled of the sea and Wingulls flocked to docks, searching for anything they deemed interesting. The central town was filled with make shift houses, refugees from the towns affected by the calamity. Firi looked at the shoddy houses as he walked, thinking how lucky he was to have someone like Fria. Most were forced on the streets, having lost everything in the calamity, begging for some sympathy. When he reached the entrance to the town, Firi was stopped by an old man accompanied by a young girl. Tarken Toland was also from Atera Town. He lost his daughter during the calamity and since moving to Arbor Town, opened an orphanage, taking in orphans of the calamity. He was a cheerful man, though sometimes, Firi can hear him crying for his daughter, often placing Spaghetti, her favorite meal, in front of her picture. Hey there Mr. Tarken, Annie. Going for a walk? Tarken smiled as he brushed some sweat on his brow. Hello to you, too Firi. Little Annie heard you were leaving and wanted to give you something! Tarken looked at the little girl and signaled her for the gift. The little girl shuffled towards Firi and handed him a sea-shell shaped like a star-fruit, Firi's favorite fruit. Here ya gos! I fwound dis and poppa said yous like it! Firi lifted her up and sat her on his shoulder, taking the shell and admiring it. Thanks Annie, Ill always keep it with me. Firi put the child down and walked with them towards the gate. I remember...8 years ago, your brother also left for his journey. I remember the party was the best our town had ever seen. Iris especially loved the fireworks at the end... Firi remembered it well, it was the last time he had seen his brother, it was the last time he would talk ever talk to him, it was the last time he would ever lie to him. Though it is a shame no one here is sending you off. Firi looked at the empty gate, imagining every person from the Atera town sending him off. Maybe it was better this way, he thought. This way, it wouldn't be hard to leave and say goodbye. There wasn't anyone to say goodbye to. Looking at the ground, a faint smile came to his face It's alright, you guys are enough for a proper send off. He gave them one last hug, and started his destiny, unknowing that his actions would changed the world...forever.

Chapter 2

Companion Carnival

Eterna City: City of History

The city was full noise, clamoring with humans and Pokemon going about their everyday lives. People selling fruits and vegetables could be seen in the central market, the sweet smells filling the air. Machokes and Medichams were building what seemed to be an apartment, working together while their trainers monitored their progress. Near the park, a woman and her Stoutland enjoyed a game of catch, while a Trainer Clash was going on at the volleyball courts. Firi stopped to watch the clash, observing both sides and imagining what he would do. One of the trainers seemed to be a samurai, his blade flowing elegantly as he strikes. His Pokemon was a Nuzleaf, zipping through the sand and attacking with blinding speed. The other trainer used Jiu-jitsu, reading the opponents movements, waiting for them to strike. Her Throh was equally patient, standing their like a statue, eyes always on Nuzleaf. The samurai leaped forward to end the clash, shouting at Nuzleaf to use Razor Leaf. But the Jiu-Jitsu trainer was too quick, grabbing the arm of the Samurai and smashing him to the ground. The Razor Leaf bounced off Throh as if it was nothing, and when the Nuzleaf was close enough, Throh thrusted his arms and smashed them against Nuzleaf. fainting the Pokemon instantly. The samurai was out too, knocked unconscious when hit the ground. The clash was over, the winner: Jiu-Jitsu trainer. Firi was amazed at the fight and though, no one else saw it, he noticed that the trainer whispered something to Throh before the Razor Leaf hit. It was Counter, a move that doubles and returns physical attacks. Firi chuckled as he walked away, thinking how easy he wouldve defeated the girl if he had his Pokemon. Her advantage was at close-combat, when the opponent attacks, thats when she struck. The best way to combat them is to keep a distance and attack with range. If that was an issue, distract them. Keep the battle focused on the Pokemon, and when the time is right, get behind and finish them. Firi was thinking of others ways to win, when he realized the time. He had took to much time exploring the town and watching the clash that he had forgotten his was suppose to meet Prof. Hickory near the fountain. He ran as fast as he could, dodging people and Pokemon with ease. When there were to many people on the street, he took to the rooftops and balconies, jumping and swinging with such finesse. My training paid off, he thought, racing towards the lab. Just then he heard a scream, a girl was being chased in an alleyway by thugs with batons. She had short black hair and was wearing a lab coat, clutching what seemed to be a messenger bag. The thugs were about to catch her when, Firi jumped down and kicked one of the thugs, flinging him back. You ok? he asked while reaching out and grabbing her hand, pulling her to her feet. I'm fine but what are we gonna do about them?! she pointed to the thugs, now regrouping and ready to attack. Don't worry! I'll take care of the trash. Firi smiled to her then glared at the thugs. I don't care who you but this girl is with me! If you want her, then you're gonna have to take it up with me! The thugs laughed, thinking what could he possibly do. Yea? And who the hell are you? Don't interfere with the Red Comet Gang kid. You'll get yourself in a world of pain if you don't move outta the way! They reached for their pokeballs and sent out their Poochyenas, the pokemons growling and bearing its fangs towards Firi. Taking out the thug were easy, he thought, the hard part was gonna be the Pokemon. Then he noticed their were 3 Pokeballs in the messenger bag. I'm gonna borrow one of these if you don't mind! grabbing the right most Pokeball and throwing it at the ground. What came out was a Mudkip, its orange fin shining in the sun. A Mudkip, huh? Mudkip stared at Firi, judging if he was a worthy trainer or not. Alright Mudkip, I know me and you just met but your gonna have to trust me, got it? The Pokemon stared it him then nodded its head and faced the Poochyenas. The thugs signaled each other and lunged a Firi, thrusting their knives at the boy. The Poochyenas raced past the trainer and were headed for the woman. Firi noticed this and shouted to Mudkip, whilst dodging the first attacker, spin kicking the next. Mudkip! Mud-slap! The Pokemon hurled in front of the Poochyenas and kicked up mud into the attacking Pokemon. The attack didn't seem to do anything as the Poochyenas raced passed Mudkip and towards the girl. Haha, not only are you stupid, but your weak too! The leader laughed, swining his blade at Firi. Firi smiled, catching the arm of the thug before it came down on him. Really? Take a look at your Poochyenas! The Poochyenas attacks were wild, hitting everything but their targets. The thugs looked at their Pokemon confused, and then they saw it. On their eyes were mud! That last attack blinded them and lowered their accuracy. No way! That's impossible! How did you- Firi twisted the thugs arm and hurled him towards the others. Easy, you weren't concerned on attacking me or Mudkip. All you cared about was that bag and wouldn't stop until you had it. I took that and used it to my advantage, knowing the Poochyenas would run past me and Mudkip, taking any attack he dealt. So I blinded your Pokemon, taking out your defense and offense at the same time! He signaled to Mudkip Mudkip, it's all you buddy! The girl looked in amazement, pushing up her glasses. Impossible, he was clearly out numbered and outclassed, but he assessed the situation and calmly took control of the battle! Not only that, he knew Mudkip would have a hard time concentrating on three Pokemon so he took out their attacks but at the same time protecting me! Mudkip can now focus on them one by one. And those movements, the way he moves his body with ease! Performing martial arts puts a strain on a persons body due to the excessive training one under goes, if someone is not careful, the training could kill them. Therefore, people usually start training at the age of 15 where their body is more developed and can handle the strain. But this boy...it seems he started training at a very early age. Not only did he handle the strain on his body, but he achieved power closer to that of a Master! This boy is no ordinary trainer, she thought. You bastard! You won't get away with this! The two remaining ran towards Firi, but he flipped over them before they could reach and back-kicked one of the thugs into the wall. Mudkip cleaned up his area easily, tackling the Poochyenas and blasting them with Water-Gun. The last thug knew he was out matched and started to run. In a flash, Firi was in front of the thug, scaring him back. Tai-Hyep-Guyung, Fifth Strike: Shin-Rai-Tekken! (Swinging Fang Fist) He punched the thug in the stomach and the thug was sent flying! He looked around to see if he was done, watching the other two thugs roll around the floor, hurt and defeated. Taking the girl by the hand he lead her into the side walk to talk. Are you ok? She looked at him and sighed with relief, gaining her composure Yes, thank you! You were incredible, where did you learn to fight like that? Firi scratched the back of his head in embarrassment. It was the first time a stranger complimented him for his skills. Hehe, it was nothing! I trained with my mom and dad to get this strong. Those idiots never stood a chance against me. He then narrowed his eyes at the woman. Though I wonder...why were they after you? More specifically, why did they want your bag? She looked at the ground and began explaining to Firi. They were after this stone. She took out a weird stone with a symbol that was unrecognizable to Firi. They thought they could sell it and gain some money but...nobody knows how this stone works and it's made out of an unknown material so people are hesitant to buy it Firi looked at the stone, mesmerized by its color and shine. Well whatever it is, they won't be back for it. At least, not after awhile. I think you should take that stone and put it somewhere safe. She agreed and placed it inside her bag, closing it an throwing it around her arm. By the way, Im Aniase, pleased to meet you. she said as she stuck her hand out. Firi shook her hand and gave a smile The name's Firi Amata. As she heard that, she put both her hands over her mouthed, her eyes shocked. Wait a minute! You're Firi?! Confused, Firi assured her it was him. Uh, yea? Why, did you need me or something? Aniase dropped her hands and reached into the bag and brought out a weird device. Actually, I was suppose to meet and give you your first Pokemon, but...well this happened. She chuckled pointing back at the event that had happened. Prof. Hickory could not make it so he sent me instead. You seemed to already picked your Pokemon, however. Firi looked at Mudkip, surprised that even though so small, could take down three Pokemon.Yup, he's perfect! What do you say, Mudkip? Wanna be partners? Mudkip smiled at him, jumping down excitedly. Mu-mu! Aniase handed the device to Firi. This is a Pokedex, it will give you information on all the Pokemon you meet and capture. It's an invaluable tool and it will help on your journey. Firi took the device and placed it in his pocket. Now regarding you brother Firi instantly faced her when she mention Kiri. What do you know about Kiri? She handed him a Town Map with a circle on one of the towns. He began his journey here, taking on his first gym leader. There were rumors that a strong trainer ran out the local gangs in that village. It could've been him, though it has been a long, they might have some information. Firi took the Town Map and thanked Aniase, heading for the village marked in the map.

She watched him as he walked further away, wondering what adventures he would get into. Just then, a ring came out from Anise's video communicator. Hello? Aniase? Are you there? A face old man with a gentle expression, white hair and busy eyebrows appeared on the screen. I'm here Prof. Hickory. What do you need? The professor smiled adjusting the feed. Aniase! I was wondering I could meet the boy. See Cheri and Calem's famed baby boy all grown up! Aniase looked at the direction Firi was headed, now empty of his presence. I'm afraid you missed him, Professor. He's already on his way to Oreburgh City. The man was still smiling, though a hint of disappointment could be seen. Ah, well how unfortunate. Maybe Ill see him next time! Oh, do you have the keystone? Aniase took out the stone from the bag and placed it in view Yes it's right here and safe. Though, I think we should put it away until we know it's power. A lot of people seem to want this stone The professor nodded in agreement as the screen flickered. One question professor, I'm curious, you haven't given a trainer their first Pokemon in six years...why start now? The smile of the professor faded, now remembering an old memory. Kiri? That young man's brother? He came to me almost 6 years ago and I too gave him his first Pokemon. I tasked him to gather all information of the different Pokemon out in the world and send the data to me. I feel as though it is my fault for sending him out there never to return...I feel as if I owe that boy for taking whats left of his family. Thinking about it now, I think it's best if I did not see him. I can't bear to see the sadness in his eyes. Aniase looked at the Professor and then looked towards Firi's path. I don't know Professor, when I saw his eyes, I didn't see sadness. I saw eyes burning with determination.

Firi was on his way towards Orebugh City when he stopped in the middle of the road. How the heck can you even read this thing?! It's all a bunch of squares and dotted lines! he was lost and he knew it. He turned to Mudkip, the Pokemon waiting for his next move. I don't suppose you know how to read a map, do you? He said, placing the map in front of Mudkip. But, the Pokemon shook his head. I thought so... Then Firi heard Mudkip's stomach growling. Hahaha, you hungry, bud? I got some sandwiches my aunt made, that'll fill you up. Firi reached into the bag but could not find them. Then he realized he never pick them up when he left for Eterna City! Um...bad news Mudkip, I kinda forgot to pack us some food. Mudkip stared at his trainer with disappointment. Ah! But don't worry, I got a fishing rod! We'll catch some fish in no time, I'm actually a pro when it comes to this thing! Mudkip jumped around happily, the thought of fresh fish had them both excited. They found two lakes, one one each side of the road and choose the left one. Firi took his old fishing road and placed it in the water. Time had passed and still they had no fish to eat. Firi's stomach started to growl as well and they knew they were too lost to get back to Eterna City. Just then they heard a voice coming from the lake to the right. Nice, another one! We are having a meal tonight Torkazen! Firi and Mudkip, curiously went to see what the voice was doing. They stood atop a ledge, over looking the lake. What they saw was a girl with average height with a slender figure. She had black hair with a streak of red in the middle. She wore a black tank-top and hot pants with what looked like red overalls hanging on the sides. With her was a Torchic and a pile of fishes, freshly caught and ready to eat. Whoa...that's a lot of fishes. Wait, how did she catch all those, but I didnt catch any? This is weird, Im really good at fishing! Mudkip looked at him with an unconvincing face. What? You don't believe me? Listen I could catch- The ledge gave away, unable to bear the combined weight of Firi and Mudkip. They tumbled down to the base of the cliff stopping at the edge of the water. Ouch, ouch, ouch...I underestimated how much that was gonna hurt. A soft voice reached his ear and Firi looked up, seeing the first smile he had ever eacieved from a person since the start of his journey. Whoa, that fall looked like it hurt, are you ok?

Chapter 3

Gallant but Problematic

Outskirts of Route 22

RRRAGGGHHHH!

A scream rang out from the forest, scattering the Starlys nesting in the trees. Calm down, this'll stop the bleeding, ya big baby! Firi resisted, but then gave into the girls insisting. Firi was no stranger from being hurt, but he was always scared of the medical attention that would come after. I thought the point of getting treatment was to stop the pain, not make it hurt even more, he thought. The pain from the alcohol was nothing he had ever experienced. The girl giggled as Firi winced at the sight of the cloth inching closing to his face. So I'm curious, what were you doing on top of that cliff? Firi explained as he took the pain. Argh! Sorry, I kinda heard you and your Torchic on the other side and, ouch, was kinda hoping you'd share your catch. We, tchh, didn't mean to spy on you. The girl looked at her pile of fishes and smiled. Sure! I mean, me and Torkazen wouldn't be able to finish this anyways! By the way, the name's Sayako, pleased to meet ya! She stuck out her hand to help Firi up, smiling. This girl smiles a lot, Firi thought. I'm Firi, nice to meet you, too. And thanks for the patch up, Im not very good with anything that has to do with medical...things. Saya giggled at the thought of Firi clumsily bandaging himself. It's no problem, my mom was a nurse so she taught me some stuff. Firi looked at her work with amazement. He would always marvel at the skills other people had that he didn't. When Sayako finished bandaging him up, they both agreed to stay in the lake for the night and set up camp.

The campfire danced in the night sky while they placed the caught fish on top of the Fire, Mudkip and Torkazen playing around the campsite. Firi glanced at his new companion to get a better look. Her eyes were of a brownish color and had a surprisingly cute face. She seemed to be his age maybe slightly younger and the clothes she wore accentuated her girlish figure. They were different from the clothes of his town, so he guessed she wasn't from around here. He also notice there was a flower shaped symbol on her upper left breast. Could be a birth mark, he thought as he stared at her. Sayako caught him staring and blushed a bit, adjusting her body so he wouldn't get a clear view. Firi realized he had been starring too long. Ah! Sorry, I was just wondering where your from. You didn't look like you were from here. Sayako smiled, reaching for one of the cooked fish, knowing he didn't mean any harm. I'm from Celea Village, it's about a two days walk east of here. Firi was amazed, stopping his hand just before getting a fish. Wow, Celea Village? Must of been a pretty long journey. Sayako reached back and feed her Torkazen while Firi did the same with his Mudkip Not really, I had Torkazen to keep me company and I met some really nice people, so the trip just sped by. Are you from around here? Firi shook his head, finishing his meal. Nope, I'm from Ater- He stopped himself, realizing what he was about to say. Atera Town was just a dark crater now. It wasn't his home anymore. I'm from Arabor Village, it's not as far as Celea Village but it took me awhile to get here. Firi laughed, citing his inability to read a simple map. Sayako laughed as well, wondering what he was doing out here. So are you a Pokemon Trainer like me? Are you gonna catch more Pokemon? Are you planning on getting the gym badges and become a Gym Leader? Wait, you look like your aiming to be Pokemon Champion! She had a look of excitement when she asked her questions, hoping to find a kindred spirit within Firi. Firi ,however, looked at the ground and smiled faintly, remembering his brother and thinking how all of those things were pointless. Why would...I do something so pointless and stupid like that? They're all useless anyways... Sayako stood up abruptly, with an angry and annoyed face, startling Firi. It's not pointless and stupid! A moment of silence past, Mudkip and Torkazen stopped playing, silently waiting for their trainers. Sayako regained her composure and sat back down, Firi still surprised she would yell at a complete stranger. Sorry for yelling, but...your wrong, it's not pointless or useless... It seemed that she was fond of the Leaders and Champion so Firi apologized. It was his first interaction with someone other than friends and family and he was failing horribly. Ah, no I-Im the one who should be sorry...I didn't mean to get you angry. I kinda tend to say what's on my mind before actually thinking. Firi chuckled, trying to lighten the mood. I'm actually looking for someone, my brother. I heard he traveled around here and Im trying to get some info on where he could be. Sayako looked at Firi with another excited face. His situation was the same as hers. Oh, me too! I'm also looking for someone! Firi smiled, relieved that she already forgot about the disagreement. Really? Do you know anything about this trainer? Like what does they look like or what color is their hair? Do you know where their from? Sayako's excitement faded when she heard all those questions, her face now with a look of disappointment. I'm not good at this socializing thing, Firi thought. I don't know anything about him...the only thing I know is that he smells like sunflowers. Firi looked at Mudkip confused, hoping that at least the Pokemon understood all this. That's why Im trying to beat the Gym Leaders and become Champion. I heard that Champions have vast resources at their disposal and I wanted to use them to find this person. When she had said this, everything became clear to Firi. He then felt like a jerk when he remembered what he said to her, hitting himself on the forehead. Sayako laughed and continued on what she was saying before. At least I was going to, until a Snivy stole my Town Map...now Ive been lost for awhile. Firi sympathized with her. He was lost too but from more embarrassing reasons. Yea I know what you mean, Im kinda lost too. Only my problem is that I can't read this god-forsaken map. Right when Firi took out his town map from his pack, Sayako instantly grabbed it. You have a map!?! Sweet Snorlax, Im not lost anymore! She said as happily jumped around, her Torchic joining in her fun. Firi smiled at the two of them thinking that they were truly unique. Out of all the horrible things that are happening: The Calamity, the mistreatment of Pokemon, these two manage to smile in front of it all. He began to admire Sayako, hoping he could be like her someday, smileing and moving forward. Sayako then turned to Firi and grabbed his hands. Listen! Please let me travel with you for awhile! At least till I get my own map. I won't be a bother and we can share our money and supplies, whadda you say?! Firi didn't even think about it. If it mean not being lost and continuing the search for his brother, he'll take any help. Sure, I dont mind. Also, if you help me find my brother, ill help you find this sunflower trainer. Sayako agreed to the proposition, their Pokemon jumped happily at the news. Firi laughed at how excited Mudkip was. Seems Mudkip has already taken a liking to you guys. Sayako laughed too, rubbing her Torchic's head as it chirped happily. It seems Torchic like's you guys, too! As they celebrated their new companionship, a shadowy figure stood atop a tree branch, his eyes watching the young girl and boy.

Chapter 4

The Sakura Trees are taking forever, baby

Route 22

Ughhhhh...how long is this gonna take? We've been on this road forever Saya, me and Mudkip are hungry!

(Youtube Pretending to... by Nujabes)

Mudkip agreed with his trainer, his stomach growling very loud, startling Torkazen. Sayako looked at him with an annoyed face, she had been hearing this since they started traveling together. Look Im reaaallly getting tired of your complaining Firi. I told you before that it's going to be awhile before we get there, so stop complaining! Firi shut his mouth immediately, he knew better than to get Sayako angry, her temper was like his mother's, if not worse. After the pair agreed on traveling together, they had been on the road for the past couple of days. Their destination was Orebugh City, the city of energy. That was the second destination his brother went to after he received his Pokemon. It was a long time ago but maybe some people would remember him. Sayako was headed their as well, rumors were that that a trainer that smelled like sunflowers was sighted there. They were suppose to reach the city a day ago, but there were some setbacks. Roads closed due to violent weather, Firi stopping for Pokemon clashes with other trainers every time, much to the annoyance of Sayako, and a run in with some angry Beedrills. Their journey wasn't what they thought it was going to be, but they were going to make do. Hmmm, I guess we have been traveling too long...tell you guys what, theres a village coming up, we'll stay there. Firi and Mudkip were relieved, finally sleeping in a bed instead of the ground sounded the a nice idea. Great! How long till we get there? And do they have anything to eat! I'm kinda getting tired of...well...fish. Sayako and Torkazen agreed, having something to eat other than fish would be a welcomed change. Its not that far, Ill put up some info about the town. Sayako held her arm in front of her face and spoke to a device strapped to her arm. Information on Saku Village. Just then, the device roared to life, a digital voice of a woman began to speak to Sayako. Saku Village, known for it's beautiful Sakura trees spread around, the town size is fairly small and is considered a rest village. There is no Pokemon Center or Pokemart, however there is a small inn in the southern half of the village. Firi looked on in amazement, he didn't know something like that even existed. Whoa, what the heck is that thing?! Sayako showed it to him, Firi taking and inspecting it. She explained how the intricate device worked. It's called PokePedia Ace. It's a device that if you ask it anything, it will search it's databanks and tell you all its info. It won't tell you anything Pokemon related, though...it's kinda weird but I guess thats what a Pokedex is for! This thing looks expensive, he thought, I wonder how she got it cause she doesn't look rich. Wow, that could be useful. Anyways, let's keep going, I don't think I can last another second without some food. Sayako smiled and they continued on.

Saku Village

(Youtube Tsutchie-Raw Material)

What they saw was not what they expected, but then again, things never were since they started their journey. Their were no Sakura trees to be seen, but in their place were barren and lifeless shells, branches twisted and distorted. The village seemed gloomy as the trees, with small fog swirling around. The only sense of life came from the villagers and their Pokemon, going about their daily lives. Firi had an uneasy feeling about the place. Uh, I thought you said there were Sakura trees every where? This is just... They looked around the village, wondering if they was anything remotely cheery about the place. Sayako looked at the PokePedia again, wondering if she had made a mistake. Nope, this is the place. Maybe something happened? The Pedia says the village is one of the most beautiful villages in Sinnoh. Firi wasn't convinced, this place could pass as a spooky attraction, he thought. Maybe someone tampered with the info? I mean, how could this place be beautiful, it looks kinda depressing. Out of nowhere, a girl started to shout at them, her hands clenched in a fist and at her sides. Don't talk about my home like that! Firi and Sayako turned to look at the girl. She was little shorter than Firi but taller than Sayako. She had a delicate figure and wore her brown hair into a bob. As they looked at her, Sayako gave Firi a hard punch to the shoulder, signaling him to watch what he said. ARGH! Firi angrily turned to face Sayako but retreated when she gave an even angrier look back. He knew better to get on her angry side. Sayako started to apologize to the girl, embarrassed of how they were acting. Hehe, sorry about that, my friend didn't mean it. He kinda just says whats on his mind. Sayako, again turned to Firi and gave him an annoyed look. Much to the annoyance of others. The girl unclenched her fist and sighed, it seemed she had calmed down a bit. No...it's my fault. Grandma says I got a quick temper, hehe. Its just when someone talks bad about my home, I won't just sit around! You guys understand, right? Sayako remembered her hometown and nodded, smiling at the girl. Firi was disinterested with the situation, he just wanted to rest his feet. Well, its great that you two are all buddy-buddy, but we're trying to find the inn. I'm kinda in a hurry and reaaaallly tired so-ARGH! Sayako hit him again, hoping he got the hint to shut up. The girl giggled at the sight of them bickering. My grandma actually owns the inn! Follow me Ill take you guys straight to her. Firi groaned on hearing they would have to walk more, his legs already aching. Sayako was also disappointed they had to walk more, but they mustered up the strength to follow. Mudkip and Torkazen didn't seem tired at all, as they were playing around in the fog. They were almost left behind until Firi called them over. Mudkip, Torkazen come on. Don't wonder off or you'll get lost, you guys are too small to see in this fog... He was right, the fog was too thick that anything below the knees were hard to spot. As they were walking, the girl greeted the villagers that were out. They were only a few despite all the houses around. Upon closer look on some of the houses, the pair noticed the windows and doors boarded up. Even some shops with all the furnishing still there were abandoned. They were about half way into the village when the girl spoke. I'm Leila by the way. We don't get trainers coming through here a lot so what are you two doing here? Sayako introduced herself and Firi, pointing to him. I'm Sayako and he's Firi. We got kinda tired so we needed a place to rest. The Pedia said that this village was close by and had an inn. She paused and looked around the village, wondering if she should ask about it. We were a bit confused though, the Pedia said you had Sakura trees everywhere. What happened to them? Firi walked closer to the two, he was dying to know, too. The girl didn't say anything back but then laughed. Oh...that. Thats usually the first thing asked when coming to this village, hehe. It's actually a pretty long story and I forgot most of it so Grandma can tell you when you rest. Though he didn't say anything, Firi could tell she knew the story but didn't want to tell. She was trying to hide it with a laugh. He'd done the same thing a few times with his aunt. The inn was a tall white house with fences around the perimeter. On the entrance was a sign that said welcome and a picture of woman with a thumbs up and a smile. It was rather adorable to Sayako but Firi paid it no mind. Inside the inn, a nice homely smell filled the air. The interior had a clichd grandmas house feel to it but the two didn't care, in fact they enjoyed it. Leila shouted at the stairs for her grandma. Grandma! We have visitors, come down and meet them! A voice came from the top of the stairs and a frail old woman appeared. Though she looked old, she carried herself pretty well and had a strong stature about her. She had a gentle face with white hair and blue eyes. Hush girl! It's rude to shout when guest are here! Hello, my name is Seria Hyasko.

(Stop Music)

She turned to Firi and looked surprised to see him. Oh! I didn't think we'd see you again! She then turned to look at Sayako and smiled. And with a beautiful friend! I'll fix you two some dinner, I hope beef stew is still you favorite. Firi and Sayako looked confused, Firi especially. Sayako gave him a nudge to the arm. Hey Firi, do you know her? He shook his head, he had never been outside of Arbor Village since the Calamity. Sorry, but do I know you? She opened her mouth to answer but Leila interrupted her Grandma before she could say anything. Grandma...that's not him. The lady took a closer look at Firi, adjusting her glasses. Oh my! Please forgive me. My eyes aren't what they're use to. She headed in to the kitchen, signaling Leila to come with. It's just that...you remind me of another boy. Someone who we owe a great deal to. Firi shrugged it off, as long as he had some food, he didn't care who they thought he was, although he was a bit curious as to who it was. You two must be hungry, Ill go make some dinner. Oh and Leila, get the bath ready and take their Pokemon to clean. She turned to Firi and Sayako as they sat at the Dinner table. She then started to grab some ingredients and started to cook, speaking to them while she worked her magic. Don't take this the wrong way, but your Pokemon seemed a little dirty. Sayako waved her hands at her. No, no it's fine! I was planning on giving them baths anyways, right Firi? Firi didn't really hear what was going on, he was too focused on a picture hanging on the wall. She was curious to see what he was staring at. What are you looking at? It was a picture of a man with a smiling young girl. Upon closer inspection, she kind of looked like the Granny Seria. Behind them was a garden and surrounding it were beautiful Sakura trees. Beautiflys could be seen in the back and the girl was holding a Phantump, which seemed quite happy. Granny Seria saw the picture it and smiled. Oh, that is one of my favorite pictures! That man is my father and Phantump was the first Pokemon I had ever caught. My father planted the garden you see in the picture and we took a picture to commemorate it being finished. She looked at the picture and gave a look of nostalgia. Those were...happier times. The Pokemon were happy, the town was flourishing, and the Sakura Trees were in full bloom... Sayako looked at the picture and wondered what happened to the town. She didn't want to ask, however, thinking it might bring Granny Seria bad memories. Firi, on the other hand, was curious and didn't hold anything back. So what happened? If this picture is the town back then, how come it looks all old and creepy now? Sayako looked at Firi angrily stomping his foot. Firi! It's rude to ask that, she clearly doesn't want to talk about the subject! Firi snapped back, tired of Sayako hitting him all the time. What?! You wanted to know too and don't tell me you didn't! Granny Seria smiled at the two of them. To be young, she thought. She calmed them down and served them the food she was preparing. It's quite alright, I don't mind telling you what happened.

(Youtube Force of Nature-Just Forget)

She told them that long ago, when she was young, Saku Village was bustling with life and was a popular rest stop with trainers and tourists. The popularity was due to the Sakura Trees growing around the village. The leaves of the trees had an unique affect on humans and Pokemon. If eaten by a Pokemon, it would heal them instantly and remove any status affects. The Pokemon would mysteriously get stronger, their attacks more fearsome and controlled. The trainer would be healed as well. Any damage taken would disappear instantly and the Ki within their bodies would rapidly increase. Nobody knew how these affects came to be or who planted the trees in the first place, but the village elders would speak of tale of a Legendary Pokemon appearing in the village. The Pokemon was badly hurt from a battle, exhausting it's powers. The villagers took care of the Pokemon, tending to it's wounds and nursing it back to health the best they could. The Pokemon was moved by their kindness and bestowed upon them a Sakura Tree. They were told to plant it in a near by cave and the tree would bless the town with happiness so long as they take of the tree and the Pokemon around the village. The villagers would hand pick a girl from the village and she would become the Tree Keeper, whos duty was the well-being of the trees and it's Pokemon. She would be the Tree Keeper for as long as she lived. I was chosen to be the Tree Keeper that year...I was happy since it was my dream to tend the trees and I enjoyed the company of the Pokemon. Granny Seria took the picture in her hand and stared at it, while continuing. There were no restrictions as a Tree Keeper. As long as you did your duty, you could live the life you had before chosen. I married my childhood friend and we had a beautiful daughter. We built this inn so that traveling trainers would have a place to stay...it was the dream of my husband to be an inn keeper, hehe. When she grew up, she herself married and had a beautiful daughter. She pointed her head to a Picture of Leila, who was still getting Mudkip and Torkazen clean. It seemed that this wonderful life would go on forever...then it all changed... Her smiling face turned to a frown, putting down the picture and sitting back at the table. Word spread about the special properties of the Sakura leaves. It attracted an evil group of people called Team Galactus. They demanded control of the village and the trees or they would take it by force. My husband gathered men of the village and their Pokemon to try and stop them...but our Pokemon were not meant for fighting and were quickly cut down... Granny Seria began choking on her words, remembering every detail of that horrible night. Sayako went over to her side and began to comfort her. She thanked her and continued on. They took control of the village and the cave, building a base for their soldiers. She pointed outside to a decrepit building next to what Firi and Sayako assumed was the cave. They told us that they couldn't care less on what happens to the village and as long as we stayed away from the cave, they would leave us alone. Every now and then, however, they would come to the village and demanded our Pokemon or face punishment. I don't know what they did to the Pokemon but every night, I could hear the cries of the Pokemon in the cave. They would do this every month and it was a horrible feeling, never knowing when they would come to your door and demand for your precious Pokemon. They even...took Phantump I pleaded with them to stop, that he was too small and wouldn't be any use to them but they took him anyways, pushing me aside. My daughter and her husband decided they had enough and took manners into their own hands. They would have someone tell them when the collection would happen and hide the remaining Pokemon of the village in the basement of their house. For a time, it seemed like it was working but a friend bribe and began working for Team Galactic. On the day of the collection...He betrayed them. They were caught and made as an example to the other villagers...from that moment I started taking of Leila Sayako put her hands over her mouth and Firi shook his head, they couldn't believe a friend would do something like that. As the years went on, the Sakura Trees began to whither and die, villagers and their Pokemon would flee, and the once bustling and lively village would be empty and quiet. Granny Seria then began to smile and turned to look at Firi. Then something amazing happened! It was 6 years ago when I was tending to what was left of the garden when I saw a boy collapsed on the flowers. I picked him up with the help of Leila and took him to our house and fixed him some food. It seemed he and his Pokemon hadn't eaten for days because he happily and quickly ate all our food! He asked if their was anything he could do but we told him that it was no problem, we were just happy to finally help a stranger after so long. We told him the situation and said that it would be best if he left during the night so he wouldn't be caught by the soldiers and have his Pokemon taken away. I would never forget what he said...he smiled at us and said 'You know, my dad always told me that I should repay any kindness by ten! So tell you what, Ill take care of your little pest problem, granny! Tell everyone to stay away from the buildings and cave until I say it's okay!' I tried to stop him, saying that it was foolish and that he would get himself killed. He turned around and said with a smile 'If I don't do something foolish now, you guys wouldn't have something to smile about later!' and he walked off to the cave. She paused to ask the two if they wanted more to eat, but they were too engrossed with the story, they just shook their head. Anyways, we heard shouting and the sounds of fighting and for a moment I thought he didn't succeed. Then we saw Galactic soldiers run from the cave and smoke coming from the mouth of it. A figure stepped out of the smoke and it was the boy, nonchalantly waving at us, a smile on his silly face. The whole village came out to met him and started to cheer for him and celebrate, you should have seen it...people I haven't seen smiling in years were grinning left and right! He told us that Team Galactic would never come here again and that we were safe. Granny Seria gathered up the plates while speaking, Sayako helping her clean. Leila and I tried to give him a Thank You Celebration but he said he was pressed with time and that he had to leave. We were a little disappointed to see him go and Leila even started to tear up! She started to laugh, remember how sad Leila was. But he told us he'll come visit from time to time... Sayako was moved with the story, wiping her eyes. That was such a beautiful story! You wouldn't think this town had so much history! Oh, did you ever find Phantump? She shook her head. No...I've searched night and day everywhere for him...but when the seasons changed and I still could not find him, I gave up the search. I couldn't keep searching for him, I had Leila to take of now. Sayako felt guilty in asking that. However, there was one thing that was still bothering Firi. Hey wait, if this trainer beat Team Galactic and ran them out, how come the Sakura Trees havent grown back? Granny Seria's frown came back, stopping her dish washing to speak. We don't know...before he left he said: 'About your tree problem...I can't do anything now but, someones gonna come looking for me. And when he comes, Im pretty sure he'll fix your tree!' I asked him how would he know and he answered: 'Cause I believe in him! He'll do it, I promise.' Firi had a annoyed look on his face, he couldn't believe that was it. Wait so he didn't fix anything?! What the hell! Did anyone even come like he said?! Granny Seria shook her head. No...it's been 6 years since then and no one came...to be honest, you two were the first visitors we had in 6 years! Sayako was shocked as well, stopping in the middle of her cleaning. Did he ever mention his name? Or is there any way to contact him? Granny Seria shook her head again, putting away the cleaned dishes. I'm ashamed to say...I've forgotten his name and I don't really have any way to contact him. Honestly, I don't think it would matter anyways. I've been talking to the remaining villagers and we've agreed that there is no hope in fixing the situation. We all decided to abandon the village....and find somewhere else to live, maybe finding a place in Orebugh City.

As she said this, they all heard a shocked voice coming from the door way into the kitchen. What...? Leila was standing in the door way, a look of disbelief on her face. Mudkip and Torkazen ran inside the room, oblivious to the situation. Did...did you just say we were abandoning the village? Granny Seria wasn't ready for this confrontation. She was suppose to wait till Leila was ready. Leila!? I-I was going to tell you...there's no easy way to say this...the village isn't doing well and we don't have a choice. Leila still could not believe it, there was no way she was leaving the village. How can you say that!? This is our home Grandma and you just want to leave!? She began to cry, tears flowing from her eyes. Your suppose to be the Tree Keeper, your job is to protect the tree and village! Granny Seria nodded her head, trying to reason with her. i know, I know but we don't know what's wrong with the trees, we tried to fix it but there's nothing we can do! Leila wasn't convinced, she began to shout her frustration. Then we wait! Someone is gonna come, he promised...he promised! Firi got up and tried to calm her down, knowing the hardships in finding a new home. Look it's been 6 years. Don't you think someone would have come by now? Granny Seria is right, you guys need to find somewhere else to live cause this place isn't going to make it. Sayako took her hand and tried to reason with her as well. Your grandma just wants whats best for your Leila, I know its hard but just listen to her. Leila slapped her hand away, moving backwards out to the hall. SHUT UP! You don't know what it's like! None of you know whats it's like! My mom and dad died for this village! Grandpa died for this village! Why would you disrespect their memory by- The slap came so fast, their was no time to react. Firi and Sayako were speechless, a little too much drama for them to handle. The mark of a hand visible on Leila's right check. Don't you dare say another word! The only disrespect Im seeing is from this childish girl standing in front of me! We will not speak of this here, understand?! Leila had enough of the conversation, lowering her head and running up the stairs to her room, slamming the door behind her. Granny Leila turned to Firi and Sayako, a tired look on her face. I'm sorry for all that. You two must be tired...take the room at the right up stairs, there are two beds for you and your Pokemon. Firi and Sayako thanked her and hurried to their room. They could tell Granny Seria wanted to be left alone for awhile.

The two stayed in their room all day, not wanting to bother Leila or Granny Seria. Firi and Mudkip were getting ready to go to bed while Sayako, brushing Torkazen feathers, was staring out of the window into the cave. It sucks...no one should have to be forced to leave their home. Firi looked at her and agreed, moving the sheets and the pillows. Yea, it sucks alright. But what can you do? I say that Granny made the right choice in leaving this creepy place. Sayako wasn't so sure Granny Seria made the right decision. I wish their was something we could do...maybe we- Firi interrupted before she could finish. He knew what was going through her head. Oh no no no. I know what your thinking and there is no way Im going into that cave! She stood up trying to get him to see her way. How can you say that? Don't you feel a bit sorry for them?! However, Firi stood his ground. Yea I do! Look I know it sucks and feel for them, I really do! I know I said Id come help you find this sunflower trainer or whatever, but we can't stop and help because of every sob story we hear. I'm not some do-gooder, Saya, I'm just a kid trying to find his brother! Sayako started to get get angry, putting down Torkazen. Oh I get it, so as long as you find your brother, you don't care what happens to anyone else, is that it?! Now Firi started to get angry, sending Mudkip out of the room. It's not like that! I'm just saying that I have more important things to worry about! You wouldnt understand! Sayako had enough of Firi's excuses. No, Firi you're the one who doesn't understand! You don't know what it's like to feel helpless! To know that theres nothing you could do but watch! You don't know what it's like to lose your home! Firi punched the wall, Sayako immediately shutting her mouth. YOU DONT KNOW WHAT I LOST! The room became suddenly quite, not word was spoken from either trainer. Mudkip and Torkazen went outside, knowing to leave their trainers alone. Firi broke the silence. Atera Town... Sayako looked up confused. Huh? She saw a look she hadn't seen before, it was a look sadness coming from the otherwise confident Firi. ...I'm originally from Atera Town... She put her hand over her mouth, realizing she had made a mistake. The First Calamity! He nodded his head, continuing on. I was there when my home was burned down...I saw the people I grew up with...cared about, my mother...my father die in front of me...and there was nothing I could do...I saw the monster that killed my parents and the one person who could've stopped the whole thing didn't even show up! Sayako put two and two together. Is this person...your brother? Firi was silent for a moment, then nodded her head. Yea...Kiri Tsuyoi, my brother. Sayako couldn't believe it. That was the name of, what many people considered, the strongest Trainer on earth! Y-your brother is Kiri Tsuyoi?! Firi didnt move, the name of his brother stung. He was...suppose to come home but he didn't! He could have stopped that monster but he didn't! Everything I went through: losing a home, losing a family, having to hear the cries of the villagers every night, it's because of him! I'm on this journey because I want to know WHY he didn't show up...and then make him answer for everything! He turned to look at Sayako, the sadness gone, replaced with anger and hate. I don't expect you to understand, but I'm leaving for Orebugh City first thing tomorrow. Now you can either come with or you can stay here, I don't care! I'm determined to find him and there is nothing on this world that will stop me! He became quite hoping that she wouldn't talk about it anymore. Sayako now knew what he went through and appreciated that he told her. She went through something similar. However, his actions still bothered her. ...it's still wrong to leave them like this...I guess your right when you said your not hero... Firi said nothing, and left the room. Sayako, ashamed of the outcome, went to bed, hoping that maybe tomorrow things won't be awkward. It was silent in the little inn, the moonlight shining through the windows in a beautiful gleam. Hoothoot's could be seen in the sky, flying around then nesting on the empty branches of the Sakura Tree. Mudkip and Torkazen were still playing, oblivious of how late it was. They made sure to not make to much noise as to not wake their Trainers. A shadowy figure appeared before them, petting their heads. Hey you two, what do you say you come play with me? The two Pokemon looked at each other, then followed the figure out to out of the door. Firi could not sleep that night, the words of Sayako was still going through his mind. What am I even doing out here...The whole ordeal reminded him of something his father said.

Atera Town, 6 years ago

Dad, how come you always help people? A young Firi looked up at his father. Calem was a bit surprised he'd ask something like that. Why do you mean, Firi? Firi looked down, trying hard not to stutter his words. It's just that...you, mom and big bro always help people in need! They don't even give you anything in return so how come you still do it? Calem chuckled and explained to him why he would always help out. Hmm, I guess I just like seeing people smile! Firi was confused, that couldn't just be the reason, can it? Something so simple as a smile? Listen Firi, I like to think that when people smile, their at their best! A smile can be a powerful thing and it's not easy making people smile. Calem looked at the setting sun, remembering the first person he helped back then. But when you do, that feeling you get when you help someone? To know it's because of you their looking their best? It's a wonderful feeling that I hope you and your brother both experience!

Present Day

Easier said than done... Firi chuckled t himself and stared at the ceiling. Maybe he was in over his head? That he should just quit this silly journey and just go live with his aunt forever. It all sounded so good to him. Then he remembered he forgot to let Mudkip back in! He felt bad, Mudkip was the only thing keeping him together and Firi neglected him. He poked his head outside the door and quitly called to him. There was no answer back. He went out and started walking down the halls, silently moving around and calling to him, but still no answer. He remebered that Torkazen was also with him. He called to Torkazen, but he too didn't answer back. Firi began to worry, this was not like his Pokemon. He woke up Sayako from her sleep. Sayako, wake up! There's something wrong! She reluctantly woke up, still drowsy from her nice sleep giving a long yawn. W-what is it, Firi? Do you know what time it is? He grabbed her shoulders and shook her. If she wasn't awake before she was now What the heck! You didn't have to do that you know! Firi covered her mouth, afraid to wake the others. Shhh! It's Mudkip and Torkazen, they're not here! I don't know where they went! Sayako didn't believe him, walking out the door calling for her Pokemon. A little later she came back, now a worried look on her face. Leila's not in her room either! You don't think she- They looked out the window towards the cave, hoping they were wrong. Firi got up and headed for Granny Seria room. We need to tell Granny Seria about this. Sayako grabbed his hand, shaking her head. No! I don't want to cause her anymore trouble than we already have! Let's just go into the cave and find Leila before this gets anymore crazy! Sayako was right and they both headed for the cave, quietly slipping out as to not wake Granny Seria. The walk to the cave was not that far, but the darkness of the town coupled with the eerie fog and the barren trees made it seem like a life time. The cave itself was enormous. The mouth was bigger than most houses in the village and the interior was so vast and dark, there was to way to see to feet in front of you. Firi, I can't see anything! Sayako grabbed the bottom of his jacket, a way for her to stick close to him. Ya, I can't eith-wait! Look up their! Sayako looked past Firi and saw a faint purple light coming from the end of the tunnel. Then they heard a scream, one that sounded like Leila! That didn't sound good! They both rushed to the end of the tunnel, seeing a frightened Leila on the ground with Mudkip and Torkazen in front, protecting her. Sayako ran to her side. Are you alright!? What happened?! She was pointing to the middle of the room, shaking all over. T-t-that Pokemon! They turned to look at what she was pointing to and was greeted by a terrifying sight. Standing in the middle of the room was a giant tree, but something was off putting about it. It had an eerie face on the bark of the tree and whatt's worse, it was angry! Firi jumped back, already in clash position. What the heck is that thing!? Is that even a Pokemon?

(Youtube Pokemon Trainer Battle RBY Epic Remix)

Sayako whipped out her Pokedex and scanned the monster. It's called a Trevenant! It's a Grass and Ghost type! While scanning the monster, she spotted a tree behind it. It looked like the Pokemon was siphoning something from the tree. I think...I think it's the reason why the Sakura Trees aren't growing back! Firi put two and two together So if we take this thing down, then that means the village will go back to normal!? Firi looked behind him and smiled at Leila. Stay behind us, we'll handle this! You won't have to leave your home anymore, I promise! He gave a thumbs up to secure his promise. Leila blushed when he smiled. He actually looks...pretty cool, she said to herself. Firi signaled to his Pokemon to his side, putting his fists together. You ready Mudkip! Looks like we finally get to see some action! Mudkip agreed, he was itching for a fight. Sayako did the same, telling Torkazen to get ready. It's showtime Torkazen! Let's show'em what you got! Leila was mesmerized at the sight, not moving an inch. She had never seen an actual Clash in her life. The determination in the eyes of both Trainers resonated with her soul. Firi motioned Sayako to get ready. Saya, it's all up to you! She nodded her, and signaled Torkazen to charge. Torkazen, use Fire Spin! Don't let it move! But, Trevenant was too fast, easily dodging the Fire Spin. It moved towards Torkazen, unleashing a Wood Hammer. ThoughTorkazen wasn't fast, it was small enough to dodge the incoming attack, ducking it's head at the right moment. Firi mobilized Mudkip behind it, ordering Mudkip to wait for an opening. Leila was confused by Firi's decision, questioning it. How come you aren't fighting with Sayako!? She needs help! Firi explained to her the problem of type differences. Trust me, Id love to help out but that Pokemon is grass type and Mudkip is water. His attacks won't do much against it and if it starts focusing on us...we gets hit even once and it's game over! 'Sides, Torkazen is Fire Type so Sayako's got it covered! They both looked at Sayako struggling to keep the battle in her favor. ...I think... Just then, the Pokemon roared and slammed it's branches to the ground. The branches started growing around Torkazen trapping it and wrapping around it's body. The branches retreated back into the ground and for a moment it seemed nothing happened to Torkazen except for the branches around it's body. Then Trevenant struck, moving with insane speed and hitting Torkazen with an X-Scissors, launching it back. Sayako ran to her Pokemon side, giving it a potion to recover it's wound. Torkazen are you okay?! Firi didn't understand what was going on. What the heck? That was a bug-type move, there's no way Torkazen should've taken that much damage! Did it have something to do with the move it used earlier?! Sayako shouted to Firi about the situation. Firi! Don't get hit by that move! It's called Forest Curse and it makes the Pokemon hit by it to change into Grass-Type! Firi couldn't believe it, forcing a Pokemon to change type? He wasn't ready to face such a fearsome Pokemon like this. Are all Pokemon as terrifying, he thought. Sayako snapped him back into the battle. Firi! Firi! Get your head staright! Firi shook his headed and started to think of ways to beat this ferocious Pokemon. Mudkip, Hydro Pump! The Hydro Pumped connected, however like Firi said, didnt seem to do much to the Pokemon. Now Trevenant was setting it's sights on Mudkip! Firi ordered Mudkip to get away. Mudkip, use Dig! Get some distance between you two! Mudkip burrowed under ground, dodging the Wood Hammer aimed for it. Sayako acted immediately when she realized Mudkip was being targeted. Torkazen quick use Flamethrower! Torkazen launched a stream of fire towards the distracted Trevenant. The Pokemon realized it was being attacked and tried to dodge the incoming fire. The attacked barely hit Trevenant on one of it's branches. Though it wasn't a direct hit, it was enough to faze the Pokemon. The Pokemon let out a terrible scream and charged at Torkazen. That was when Mudkip struck. Coming out of the ground, Mudkip launched a Hydro Pump directly at Trevenant, hitting it right in the face, then burrowing back down to avoid retaliation. The Pokemon flinched and Torkazen was given enough time to get away and launched an attack of its own. They continued to do this, Mudkip attacking and burrowing while Torkazen attacked the distracted Pokemon. Leila was in a trance, focusing on the battle. The coordinated attacks from Firi and Sayako seemed like a dance, both of them moving in rhythm, quickly moving to support each other then retreating back to their positions. She watched intently, figuring out what the strategy the two were implementing. I get it! Mudkip isn't strong enough to take on Trevenant directly, so he's being used as a distraction but he's still chipping away at Trevenant with the sneak attacks! And Torkazen isn't just attacking, he's making sure that Trevenant focuses on him so Mudkip can get away! These two are...incredible! As the battle raged on, Firi couldn't help but notice a weird feeling inside him. There was a rush of excitement flowing through him, each time the Pokemons set off a move. Seeing his Pokemon dodge Trevenants attack, while Trevenant dodged one of his own resonated with him. This was where I belong, he thought, not out there helping people, not out socializing, not even searching for my brother, but here: on the field of battle! Sayako looked at Firi to see how he was holding up. What she saw was unsettling to her: Firi was grinning. For awhile the plan seemed like it was working, Torkazen's attacks inching closer to a direct hit. But than disaster struck! When Mudkip dived down to get away from Trevenant, the tree Pokemon moved towards the whole and followed Mudkip in! Firi and Sayako couldn't beileve what they were seeing. No way! Mudkip get out of there! But it was too late. Trevenant reached Mudkip and connected with a Phantom Force, knocking him out of the ground and into the wall. In the blink of an eye, their whole strategy crumbled down. Sayako knew they were beaten, telling Firi and Leila to get away. Firi this bad, we need to get out of here, it's too strong for us! Firi stood his ground, his eyes focused on the Pokemon. He knew she was right but couldn't face the fact that he was powerless. He could see his brother laughing at him now: I should've known you couldn't handle one measly Pokemon. Looks like you couldn't even keep your promise to the girl! Keep this up and you'll never reach me, haha! But I guess you couldn't have won anyways, just like last time, you've failed to protect anyone! Images of Atera Town burning ran through Firi's head. Was he right? Was he going to let another town be destroyed? Firi gave a loud shout and moved closer to the rampaging Pokemon. RAGH! There's no way Im retreating and let this Pokemon destroy the village! Im keeping my promise! Sayako was surprised with his answer, she didn't know Firi felt so strongly about all this. Though he said all that, he still didn't know how they were going to pull through. Firi looked at the monster, trying to find a weakness of some sort. We can't keep doing hit and run tactics, that'll take forever and theres no guarantee it'll work let alone if we can last that long. And I can't keep using Dig...he'll just follow Mudkip and theres no way he dodge under there! Then Firi had an idea. If Mudkip can't dodge...then...well it's worth a try! Mudkip, use Dig! Make sure your the first one out! Leila thought Firi had lost his mind when he order Mudkip to use Dig. She frantically asked Sayako, hoping if she knew What is he crazy? It'll just follow Mudkip through the hole again! Sayako couldn't understand it either. I don't know...just what are you thinking Firi. Then it hit her: Firi wouldn't carelessly use dig, when it comes to battles he isn't stupid. He knew that Trevenant would follow Mudkip! It was her time to act, ordering Torkazen to move. Torkazen! Head for the hole they dug through! Just then Mudkip came out of the ground and for the next phase of the counter-attack. Nice one! Now use Rock Throw on the hole! Make sure Trevenant can't get out from there! Mudkip started hurling rocks, covering the exit thoroughly. A loud crash came from the hole and they knew Trevenant couldn't get through! Trevenant turned around to try and get to the entrance, but that's when Torkazen made it's move. Torkazen, use Flamethrower! Go full blast! Torkazen launched a Flamethrower so big, it reach from wall to wall of the hole. Th ground exploded and Trevenant was launched into the air and crashed down hard.

They had won the battle! Sayako sighed with relief and Firi jumped into the air with Mudkip. Oh yea we won! Nice job Mudkip, I knew I could count on you! Sayako petted Torkazen, giving it a berry. You did awesome Torkazen! Leila was happy too, running to congratulate them. However, their celebration was short lived. They felt a large rumble and the seemingly defeated Pokemon got up. Syako and Firi were horrified. No way... It let our a terrible scream and started to charge, not at the two Trainers and their Pokemon, but to the defenseless Leila! Firi and Sayako were slow to react and even if they did, the distance was too far to reach in time. Leila closed her eyes and accepted that she wasn't going to make it. She remembered her mom and dad and the fight she had with her grandma. Grandma....I'm so sorry... she waited for the inevitable end but when it didn't arrive she opened her eyes. The Pokemon stopped it's attack and standing in front of her was Granny Seria! Trevenant oddly moved back into it's original position, it seemed it knew Granny Seria. Granny Seria moved closer to the now meek Pokemon. Firi
