Introduction

Pointsec Mobile Pocket PC Revision and Device Tracking. Last Update — September 11, 2008 2

IntroductionThis document contains information on previous releases of Pointsec Mobile Pocket PC in the 3.X.X series designed for devices running Windows Mobile 5.0 and Windows Mobile 6. The information included here is based on the release notes for each release. For information on releases in the 2.X.X series for devices running Windows Mobile 2003, please see the documentation accompanying that product.

Note that as of the 3.3.0 release, Pointsec for Pocket PC (Windows Mobile 5) was renamed Pointsec Mobile Pocket PC (Windows Mobile 5). In the 3.4.0 release, (Windows Mobile 5) was removed from the product name. The product is now called Pointsec Mobile Pocket PC. Therefore, versions prior to 3.3.0 are referred to as Pointsec for Pocket PC (Windows Mobile 5), and versions 3.3.0 through 3.3.4 are referred to as Pointsec Mobile Pocket PC (Windows Mobile 5) in the documentation.

This document contains the following chapters:

• “Product Version Tracking” on page 2, containing information on the changes and corrections made and the devices supported in each release.

• “Device Tracking” on page 35, which lists each device and the release or releases that support it.

Product Version TrackingThis chapter includes information on changes and corrections made in the previous releases of Pointsec for Pocket PC and Pointsec Mobile Pocket PC and a list of the devices supported in each release.

Version 3.4.1

Changes and Corrections in 3.4.1

New in This Release:

New Device

This Windows Mobile 6 device is added in this version:

• HTC Touch Dual

Fixed IssuesThe following issues have been fixed in this release:

Table 1 Fixed Issues in 3.4.1

ID Short description Description/Info

453511 Non-unique recovery file names Previously, Pointsec Mobile identified a device by using the device ID, which is a unique identifier according to the Windows Mobile standard. Certain OEMs, however, have not followed this standard. As a result, the recovery file name could not be guaranteed to be unique on devices that did not have a GSM or CDMA phone.Pointsec Mobile now uses the UUID (Universally Unique Identifier) to identify the device.

Pointsec Mobile Pocket PC Revision and Device Tracking. Last Update — September 11, 2008 5

Version 3.4.0

Changes and Corrections in 3.4.0

New in This Release:

New Devices

These devices are added in this version:

• HTC X7500 (Windows Mobile 5.0)

• HTC X7501 (Windows Mobile 6)

• Palm Treo 700wx (Windows Mobile 5.0)

Product Name

Pointsec Mobile Pocket PC protects multiple Windows Mobile operating systems. Therefore, (Windows Mobile 5) was removed from the product name.

Enhanced device installation features

Pointsec Mobile’s device installation process is now more robust, enhancing the overall stability and usability of the product. The installation has fewer steps, and only one reset is required to complete the installation. A user-friendly message reminds users to save their work before the reset occurs to ensure work in progress is not lost.

Enhanced removable media functionality

Pointsec Mobile’s new removable media functionality provides improved security and usability for removable media users.

• Administrators can choose whether to allow removable media on the device, whether it must be encrypted, and whether users are allowed to decrypt it.

• Removable media has exclusion and inclusion lists separate from those of the device, giving the administrator control over encryption of files on the media.

• Removable Media PIN/PicturePIN/passwords have the same configurable rules and policies available on the device.

• Administrators can configure removable media to be accessed with a password or single sign-on.

• Users can receive Remote Help at their discretion to access removable media.

• Users can apply the security policy of the current device when moving removable media between Pointsec Mobile-protected devices.

• Pointsec Mobile Pocket PC’s removable media encryption functionality is interoperable with that of Pointsec Mobile Smartphone and Pointsec Media Encryption.

Note that Pointsec Mobile Pocket PC 3.4.X’s removable media encryption functionality is not interoperable with that of previous versions of Pointsec Mobile.

The following table shows the new removable media settings included in this release.

Page 6: Pointsec Mobile Pocket PC 3.4.2 Revision and Device Tracking

For complete information about the new settings, see the Pointsec Mobile Pocket PC Administrator’s Guide.

Installation Settings Removed

The following settings have been removed from the installation set:

• Preset user name: This setting was removed as part of the process of simplifying the installation of Pointsec Mobile on the device.

• Wait until card recovery file transferred and Card recovery file timeout (sec): Removable media now uses the same recovery file as the device. Therefore, these settings are no longer relevant.

Issues with Pointsec Mobile's processing of installation and update profiles

Pointsec Mobile's processing of installation and update profiles has been improved, resulting in increased stability and consistency of profile performance on the device.

7505 Installation and installation rollback could fail if installation profile version was not the same as .cab file version

If an installation profile (InstProf.ppp) was installed that was different from the .cab file version, the installation and installation rollback could fail. This has been fixed in this release.

6718 Long waiting time when removing Pointsec Mobile

When removing Pointsec Mobile from a device, it could take several minutes between the challenge/response procedure and the decrypting phase. This has been fixed in this release.

Improved Installation Set Display and Descriptions in the SmartCenter Console

When you create or update an installation set, you can now choose to show or hide advanced settings.

This allows you to view and configure the basic settings quickly and display the advanced settings only when you need them.

For a complete list of the advanced settings, see the section Miscellaneous in the chapter Overview of Pointsec Mobile Settings in the Pointsec Mobile Pocket PC Administrator's Guide.

Some settings have been moved to more intuitive locations and others have been renamed in the install setting display. These changes appear in the chapter Overview of Pointsec Mobile Settings in the Pointsec Mobile Pocket PC (Windows Mobile 5) Administrator's Guide and are summarized in the following table:

Default Values Changed to Improve Usability

Default values for some of the settings in the installation set have been changed to help administrators create secure, usable profiles quickly.

The changed default values appear in the chapter Overview of Pointsec Mobile Settings in the Pointsec Mobile Pocket PC Administrator's Guide and are summarized in the following table:

Supported Third-party Products Are Now Included in Appropriate List

Pointsec-supported third-party software now functions with Pointsec without the administrator having to manually place the third-party software in the correct list. See Late Breaking Documentation in this document for details.

All Sound Files Are Now Included in Exclusion List

This avoids encryption of ring tones, for example. See Late Breaking Documentation for details.

Enhanced Device Event Logging

The setting Event Logging in the installation set has been renamed to Event Log Levels, which allows you to select which events are logged. All events are logged in a general file and, depending upon how you configure Event Log Levels, specific events are also logged to specific event files. This provides you greater flexibility in how you sort and view events.

A new setting, Event Log Size, has been added to allow you to specify the maximum size of each event log file.

A new event has been added: Event 902, Info profile updated started.

Device Event Logging, which was a separate document in the previous release, is now an appendix in the Pointsec Mobile Pocket PCAdministrator's Guide.

Upgrade Possible Even When Device Is Locked

It is now possible to execute an upgrade even if the device is locked, making it easier for administrators to push out upgrades without having to tell users to unlock their devices.

8949 Risk for corruption of data stored on the device

This release eliminates a problem that could cause data on the device to be corrupted.

To ensure that your data will not be affected, install this release immediately on Pointsec for Pocket PC versions that were released after September 19, 2006, that is, versions 3.1.0 through 3.1.3, as well as versions 3.2.0 and 3.2.1.

After the upgrade is complete, all encrypted files are scanned for potential corruption and adjusted if necessary.
