Students grab flying moneyfor new “millionaire” prize

Students deemed “Millionaire for a Day” aspart of Compass Credit Union’s in-schoolbanking program had a new prize this year:

one minute inside an inflatable cash vault, wherethey could grab flying money and keep it.

The winners’ names were pulledfrom a hat as part of year-end prizesat all five Oswego elementaryschools, Trinity Catholic School andOswego Middle School. Throughoutthe school year, students earned achance to win a prize, including the“millionaire” grand prize, every timethey made a deposit.

In the cash vault, which inflatesto 9 feet tall, students had a chanceto win up to $200 by grabbing the 1s, 5s, 10s and 20s swirling aroundinside. This year’s winners wereClay Kennedy (Fitzhugh), AndresBlackburn, (Kingsford), MadisonCasper (Leighton) Meghan Irwin(Minetto), Logan Crannell (Riley),Meghan Kenyon (Trinity) and Faith Sams (OMS).

Sage Dudley and Mark Forger, recent graduates ofOswego High School, each won a $4,000 college

scholarship this year from Compass Credit Union.Dudley, the daughter of Todd and Crystal Dudley,

plans to study physical therapy at DuquesneUniversity in Pittsburgh. Forger, the son of Jeff andKathy Forger, plans to study forensic chemistry atSUNY Albany. A volunteer committee for Compassselected the winners out of 17 applicants.

Association and Oswego Girls Softball. The event was held June 12th at theEmerald Crest Golf Course in Palermo. A record 17 teams participated.

Danielle Faivus, a graduateof Clarkson University,

recently received a $1,000 con-tinuing education scholarshipfrom Compass Credit Union.This is the first year the awardhas been offered.

Faivus, of Oswego, will usethe money to offset tuition atmedical school. She is enrolledat SUNY Upstate MedicalUniversity but is also consider-ing other medical colleges.

Faivus hopes to study pedi-atric oncology with the ultimategoal of working at St. Jude’sChildren’s Research Hospital.
