Plans are full steam ahead for the 75th Anniversary Show of our club. The enthusiasm has spread around the world as every day we hear of more and more Pointer fanciers from all parts of the world planning to come and help us celebrate. One of the events will be a 75th Party and all are invited to participate. To enable us to do all of the extra activities, we have some fundraising items, such as the 75th Anniversary tapestry throws and also the calendar. These can be seen on our website. These items are limited in number and once gone, will not be reordered, so don’t procrastinate if you are interested. The 2014 National will be held at Purina Farms the week of April 7th. We are in need of committee chairs for conformation, agility, obedience, hospitality, chief ring steward, ribbons, state baskets, specialty items and vendors. Please, if you want to get involved, this is a perfect opportunity. Most of these committees do not require that you be local. Purina has all of the equipment for obedience and rally. I was just at the Event Center this past weekend and was very impressed with the indoor facility. The flooring is cushioned so no mats are needed. It would be fine for obedience jumps and agility. I hope that while we are there in 2014, you take the time and visit the facility. There will be a specialty in the building at the same time as our na-tional. The APC is participating in the Meet the Breeds at both the Javits Center in NYC on October 20th & 21st as well as at the AKC Eukanuba Show in Orlando on Dec. 15th & 16th. These events are very popular with the public and an excellent opportunity to educate them about our breed. If you are interested in participating, please contact Patty Lillesand, our Public Education Chair. Your Board is working on improving the communication with our members. Susie Kissik is working on de-veloping a Yahoo Group for members and you will be hearing more about this in the near future. It will be a means of announcing upcoming events as well as other pertinent information. Fall is here and that means the National Championship in Fort Robinson State Park in Nebraska the end of September as well as field trials and hunt tests around the country. For those in the northeast, the Pointer Club of Central NJ holds a Fun Field Day every year. The date this year is November 3rd. Dogs are intro-duced to quail. It is very rewarding to see pups react to the live birds. If you are interested in coming, please contact Karen Spey as birds need to be preordered. Hopefully many of us will get our dogs out to these events as this is what they love the most!

Pointer Points is the quarterly publication of the American Pointer Club, Incorporated (APC).
The APC is a non-profit corporation, founded in 1938 to promote the Pointer. Recognized by
the American Kennel Club (AKC) the APC, is a member club of the AKC, is the guardian of the
breed and determines the official AKC stan-dard for the breed. It urges members,
breeders and judges to accept this standard of excellence as approved by AKC.

Editorial Policy: Pointer Points is published quarterly (4 times a year) for the members of the APC and is a benefit of membership for the club. The yearly spring
issue is also sent to all AKC judges licensed for Pointers per the motion 20080929-46-B (2008). The
Editors of Pointer Points encourages ALL members of the APC to submit articles and letters of interest for other members of the APC to view and learn from. The Editors reserve the right to reasonable edit all
copy submitted.
Opinions expressed in public letters Do Not Necessarily Reflect the Opinion Of The Editors or
the American Pointer Club.
The Editors reserve the right to consider ONLY signed letters for publication unless it is forwarded by

Wow! As of September 13th 85 rooms have been reserved for the 2013 National. If you have not decided if you are attending the National you might go ahead and make a reservation at the Best Western Hotel Plus Lehigh Valley Hotel and Conference Center (610-866-5800). All reservations must be made by March 15, 2013. After that date any rooms left over in our block will be released to the general public. We are planning several exciting and different events. Please save Friday night, April 19 for the 75th Anniversary Party. It will be a time to get
together and celebrate the 75 years of the APC, its members, and the breed we all love. Please go to the APC website for all the information about the specialty. There is also information included in this Pointer Points. Another way we will be keeping in touch is through email and for those of you on Facebook there is a 2013 Facebook site that will put up info after it appears on the website. If your dog competes in 2 or more venues at the APC National Specialty, they are qualified to receive a MVP Award!
No addit ional entry is required!
Anyone who satisfies the above program awards AND qualifies in at least 1 event will receive a rosette**. Supplemental ribbons will be added to the rosette for dogs who earn a Q/placement per each venue qualified. A maximum of one qualifying ribbon per venue will be added.

In acknowledgement of the versatility of the Pointer and of the dedication of Pointer owners, the APC desires to recognize the Pointers who can, and happily do, compete in multiple venues. The APC Multi Venue Pointer (“MVP”) Program is designed to acknowledge the versatility of Pointers
specifically at the APC National Specialty. The primary goal of the MVP Program is to highlight and encourage the participation of Pointers in multiple venues. The MVP Program also rewards those dogs who excel with wins or qualifying scores in multiple venues. The venues offered at each National Specialty include conformation, hunt tests, field trials, obedience, rally and agility. All Pointers entered and competing in two or more venues at the APC
National Specialty are eligible to participate in the APC MVP program.

As we approach the 75th anniversary of the American Pointer Club, I’d like to take a minute to share some information about the history in our club’s archives and its value as a resource. In two previous POINTER POINTS (Summer & Fall 2011) I mentioned our special project of naming and finding photographs of ALL of the BOB and BOS winners of our (National) Specialties and issued a plea to help find the missing information. The “modern” era was easy as our club archives contains the official photographs and catalogs from all of the Nationals since 1989. Previous to that we have occasional photos, catalogs and yearbooks, plus many of the dog magazine/newspaper pictures. The Gazette write-ups of our Specialties throughout most of the 1960s through 80’s were thanks to Beryl Hirschberger’s interesting breed columns. These items weren’t always miraculously here, they were saved or found and donated by generous members over the years. Thank you. Since the last request for specifically needed info and pictures, I’m happy to report that we now have discovered ALL of the names, dates, places and judges of the Specialties and the respective BOB and BOS winners. What a coup! AND we have pictures of ALL of the BOB winners even though some were not taken at their actual Specialty. Doesn’t matter. We have them for the historical record and you can actually enjoy looking at them throughout 2013 and ever after because they all appear in our 75th Anniversary Calendar designed by project coordinator Susan Bleckley! This is a limited edition of 150 and with all of the interest from overseas in our big celebration, these will become instant collector’s items! Get yours (and a great gift or two) now – the information is elsewhere in this issue. ub-a-dub-dub, three careers in a tub. A ballerina, an agility judge and a championship maker, Chris Dewey has been all of these. Her ballerina days are behind her, as she has
been an American Kennel Club (AKC) agility judge for more than 10 years, and she definitely is a maker of an agility champion— Master Agility Champion Skeets. Skeets’s agility career almost didn’t happen. A couple of years ago, Chris, who frequently flies around the country for judging assignments, was on her way to the Midwest. She had been ap-proached by Illinois Bird Dog Rescue to rescue one of a litter of 15 puppies they had taken in. Chris had recently lost Max, another rescued Pointer, and was not ready for another dog, but thought it wouldn’t hurt to meet the puppy. Well, all it took was just one look, and this little pointer was on his way to sunny Florida. Years before she met her new res-cued puppy, Chris had been watching the Crufts Dog Show on television and saw a demonstration of a new sport called agility. Very little agility was done in the United States before the American Kennel Club (AKC)-spon-
sored events in the mid-1990s. Around that time, Chris began training her
German Shepherd Dog (GSD), Penny, to do agility. Unfortunately, cancer took Penny before she could begin competing. The mantle was passed to Chris’s second dog, Max, who began competing in 1997. Max had come to North Shore Animal League in Massachusetts from a group called Paws Across America that
transports rescued dogs to various dog rescue organizations. Chris then rescued another GSD that had been bad-ly abused and named her China, who went on to earn Excellent-level titles in agility and was a two-time High Scoring Dog at the Ger-

man Shepherd Dog Nationals. In 1999 Chris attended the AKC’s Judging School and, soon after, began of-ficiating competitions locally and across the country. Now the stage was set for Chris’s latest rescue, the little pointer puppy, who she named “R U Gunnarun-namok Skeets” or just Skeets for short. Skeets was born at the ex-
act minute that Max had passed away. It seemed fated that Chris and Skeets should be together. His achievements in agility certainly warrant attention. Skeets earned the AKC’s Master Agility Championship (MACH) title on November 5, 2011. He has qualified for four AKC Invitational Tournaments and two AKC National Championship Tournaments. In De-cember of 2011, he competed at the AKC Invitational in Orlando, Florida. AKC only invites the top five dogs in
each breed to compete annually. A happy conse-quence of all his agility achievements is that Skeets is helping other Bird Dogs in rescue. Every time Skeets earns two qualifying runs on the same day, also known as a Double Q, Chris sends $10.00 to Illinois Bird Dog Rescue. Chris says Skeets is a perfect fit for her personality and lifestyle. As an AKC judge, she is frequently away from home, and Skeets is happy to charm his temporary caretakers. Chris and Skeets can be counted on as good sports. Even when a run doesn’t go as planned, Chris is quick with a comical remark as Skeets runs amok, leaping for joy, as the pair dance their ballet of agility.

In 2006, Ron Gaunt, Amy Herot and Jill O’Brien, 3 people that are professional dog trainers and handlers developed a program to make scent work available to ALL dogs and the owners in a new fun sport that would use the dog’s innate ability to use their noses to source certain odors. They started the National Association of Canine Scent Work ( NACSW) which now boasts 2,000 members and 3,000 dogs living in 42 US States and 3 Canadian Provinces. Like all dog sports there are titles and judges and of course rules when conducting tests. As always I was looking for an easy dog sport to do with my Pointers and thought this might be it! Wrong! But oh so much fun!!!! What is involved in training you might ask. During introduction to Nose Work the handlers focus on building their dog’s drive to hunt by putting a high-value treat or toy in one box among may other boxes spread around a room. When the dog finds the tar-geted box, the dog is rewarded many times with food right inside the box. As the dog grasps the “find the rabbit in hole game” more and more challenges are presented such as, treats are hidden under the flaps, boxes are placed on top of the targeted box, the box could be upended, the box could be elevated. Simple things like opening a door or window or turning on a fan can move odor around a room. As the game gets more and more exciting to the dog distractions are added like toys, objects of various sizes and shapes, luggage etc. Not only is the dog learning to hunt the handler is learning dog behaviour and how to read the dog when on odor and change of any behaviour the dog does and clues when the dog does when on the “scent cones” and the dog learns many skills on how to locate the odor and “go to the source” with the subtle body changes of the dog and the different sniffing. All dogs are different and this training is all about dogs learning skills at their own pace and there are NEVER any corrections of any kind, so all dogs succeed. When odor is introduced, it is first paired with high value treats and the same scenarios are presented as with the start of box work. Easy finds gradually introducing distractions and puzzles for the dog. Now is the time for teaching “odor obedience” and to get that, success is always important. The first odor used is an essential oil called Birch. It is important to use the one Birch odor recommended, there are a few. The second is another essential oil called Anise and the third odor is an essential oil Clove. They odors are made up with a few drops in a glass jar and with Q –tips. I did get paper Q-tips because my dogs will eat them when they have access to them in a search and paper just goes right through them! I do train with all 3 odors because it gives them vari-ety and some dogs like some odors better than others but you only need to train Birch for a Nose Work 1 trial. The beauty of this sport is that it can be done anywhere with minimum equipment, boxes and weird containers can be found any-where and will fit in the car. You learn all about scent because you never know what it will do, it may pool in a corner or drift up a wall or along a wall or tent leg, you never know what it will do and it could change every minute with outside searches or even indoors with a door opening unexpectedly. The handler will learn to trust the dog and let him work the scent until he locates the “hide” and communicates the location to the handler. There are only a couple of things to teach the dog that involves pattern training so it really is different than rally and obedience. And pattern training is only once the dog has some “odor obedience”. It is great for the retired dogs and the dogs that need confidence for other sports and gives them the mental and physical stimulation all Pointers need. After practising I notice my dogs are really, really tired!
The saying heard most often from teachers and judges are “trust the dog” and you will hear it over and over again! For those handlers that want to trial and of course get TITLES! There are 3 levels of trialing. Before the dog can enter a trail it must pass an Odor Recognition Test (ORT), there are 12 closed boxes in 2 rows and the dog must indicate which box the odor is in within 3 minutes. It is a pass or fail test and no score is given. To enter NW 1 trial you must pass a Birch ORT and to enter a NW 2 trial you must pass an Anise ORT and to enter a NW 3 trial you must pass a Clove ORT. The ORT’s are simi-larly set up like the test before entering a Tracking Test, to see if the dog is ready and knows what the odors are.

The Pointer is one of the first breeds exhibited here in the United States. It is also a breed that has been depicted through the centuries by artists. It is interesting to note that many of the dogs immortalized by the masters such as George Earl, his daughter Maud Earl, Thomas Blinks, Leon Danchin, Richard Fath and Marguerite Kirmse to name a few are not very different from the modern day Pointer. When you enter the ring, you will see a class of Pointers of different colors and coat patterns. This is the icing on the cake for it is what lays underneath that makes a good Pointer. Color and markings should have no bearing on your decision. In the General Appearance section of the Pointer Standard, terms like bred primarily for sport afield; impression of compact power and agile grace and hard-driving hunting dog are used. In evaluating the Pointer, one must keep in mind the purpose of the breed. Our dogs should have outgoing temperaments and be in excellent muscular condition so they can perform the duties for which they are bred. For many years, the Pointer has been described as a head breed. There is no doubt that the correct Pointer head is the hallmark of the breed and distinguishes it from other breeds. I do feel that as a judge or a breeder, to put all of your emphasis on the head and neglect the traits that make our dogs capable of hunting all day is a disservice to the breed. That being said, the Pointer’s head is very well chiseled. The planes of the skull and muzzle can be either parallel or dished. The standard calls for the muzzle to give the impression of length. The nostrils are wide open to enable scenting ability. The eyes are of ample size, rounded and intense. An oval eye is incorrect in the Pointer and detracts from the expression. The eye color should be dark in contrast with the coat color. The ear leather is so fine that the veins are evident. They are also short and when relaxed reach just below the lower jaw. They should be pointed at the tip and never rounded as in a scent hound. The outline of the Pointer is a series of gentle curves from the neck blending into smooth laid back shoulders. The correct topline has subtle curves from the head to tail. There is a slight rise over the loin and a gently sloping croup. The underline is also an integral component of the outline, the tuck up being a gentle curve, not exaggerated or straight both of which would be hound characteristics. The Pointer’s silhouette should show a well balanced dog devoid of exaggerations such as an extreme sloping topline or a very high tail carriage. The Pointer should also never appear low in leg. These do not present the correct outline for the Pointer. The Pointer’s chest is deep rather than wide and the breastbone is bold, but not unduly prominent. The bone of the Pointer is oval in shape. It should neither be too refined or too heavy as both would hinder the agility and endurance of the breed. The feet are oval with well arched toes and deep pads which are needed for speed and agility. Our standard calls for muscular and powerful hindquarters. When one examines a Pointer, well defined musculature should be apparent. It is the strong hindquarter that propels the Pointer in the field. Decided angulation is required in the breed standard. The purists in the breed will tell you that the two most important physical characteristics of the Pointer are the
head and the tail. The correct Pointer tail is thicker at the base and tapers to a fine point. Never docked, the tail should not reach below the hock in length. It should be carried straight without curl and lash from

side to side when moving. The tail can be either carried straight off the back or as high as 20 degrees above the back. The Pointer should never carry its tail between its legs. People in the breed often refer to the ideal Pointer tail as a “bee sting” tail. It is an extremely short tapered tail and is carried perfectly straight and lashes from side to side when the dog is in motion. One would never see the need to meas-ure this tail as it would fall well short of the hock. William Arkwright in 1906 wrote in his The Pointer and His Predecessors that “while the head is the hallmark of the breed, for the certificate of blue blood apply at the other end.” It was at the turn of the last century in the development of the breed in England that Pointers were crossed with Fox-
hounds and Greyhounds. Mr. Arkwright was very vocal in his opposition to the crosses. He felt that the tail was an indicator of hound crosses. He had good reason to be concerned as to this day we can see several hound char-acteristics in our breed: lack of stop, round bone, cat feet, exaggerated tuck-up, lack of tuck up and skirting, long ropy tails devoid of tapering, sickle tails, long ears with rounded tips, flat croups and also steep croups. Any hound characteristic is wrong in the Pointer and should be penalized. A good Pointer’s gait is as much a part of breed type as his head and tail. The gait should be strong and powerful. The head is held proudly, the tail lashing from side to side. In this country a lot of emphasis is put on movement, looking for tremendous reach and drive. However, the dog should never lose his outline when moving. The Pointer should not get longer and lower when moving. The head should not be facing the ground. Wasted motion such as hackney gait and pounding movement are also faulty. The Pointer may be black, lemon (flesh colored nose), orange (black pigment) or liver either solid or in combination with white. The lemon Pointer will have a hazel eye as it is genetically impossible for them to have a darker eye. Unfortunately, many judges are often confused by this as they look at the lighter eye of our lemons as a fault. Our standard does not address the proportions of the breed as it is covered in other standards. It does however mention compact power and loins of moderate length. Therefore, most Pointer breeders agree that the Pointer is just off square. The height of the body from the withers to the ground is equal to or slightly less than the length of
the body from the front of the forechest to the rear proportion of the upper thigh. I feel that if you keep these points in mind, you will be comfortable judging the Pointer and will be able to reward the dog that best exemplifies our stan-dard, a Pointer that could go out and do a day’s work in the field and go into the show ring the next day. Remi is owned by Marva Petrequin, Deborah Harper and Jill Koch. She was nominated at the age of nine, with nine titles already to her credit, and has continued to “improve with age”, as she has recently added an Agility Excellent title before turning ten in mid-May. She is pursuing her Master Hunter title and participating in field events with a Dual Championship as the ultimate goal. Remi has quali-fied for the Multi Venue Pointer(“MVP”) award at each National Specialty it’s been offered. Remi and her three offspring have all had hips, eyes, thyroid and cardiac health clearances, making them a 2-generation CHIC family. In fact, two of Remi’s off-spring, “Dillon” and “Fire” were the first two Pointers ever to receive CHIC numbers. Remi and her kids have represented “The Pointer” twice at the AKC/Eukanuba Invitational Meet the Breeds in Long Beach, CA, and have been outstanding ambassadors for our breed with their wonderful temperaments. This annual award was announced at the National Spe-cialty Awards Banquet in Sacramento on April 28, 2012. The Champion of Health program was implemented in co-operation with OFA and CHIC, to recognize a dog that has had significant accomplishments in the ring, in the field, in performance events, as a producer, or as a working dog, AND has the full complement of health testing appropriate for its breed. As the winner, Remi received a framed Certificate, an engraved silver medallion, and the OFA made a $100 donation to the AKC Canine Health Foundation breed specific Donor Advised Fund in her name.
Please join us in congratulating Marva, Deb and Jill on Remi’s Champion of Health award, and on all their wonderful accomplishments. As Marva noted on her nomination, “Pointers can do it all and Remi does it with her typical “joie de vivre”. Congrats to all!

Report from the Recording Secretary Beginning in October, the Club will have a new avenue of communication for the membership. The Board has established a Yahoo group site, for APC members only. Through this online group we will post events, files and other Club information. It is open only to the membership and will be moderated by the Officers of the Club. This group will make email communication more efficient, forms and documents easily accessible, and event information automatically delivered to members of the group. An invitation to join this group will be sent directly from the Yahoo group site to each member. Please follow the instructions provided in the email you receive to complete the process. If you have questions or would like something posted to the Yahoo group, please contact me.
Later this month I will be mailing ballots for Officer/Board of Director elections. In addition to voting for the 2013 Board members, there will be two additional items on the ballot. The first is whether the Club should offer the 4-6 month puppy class at the National Specialty. The entry fee for this class will be the same as a regular puppy class. The second item is whether the Reserve winners at the National Specialty should earn a three point major. AKC has approved a new policy to allow points to be awarded to the Re-serve winners when there is a sufficient entry. Parent Clubs have the option to allow this at their National Specialty. The September, 2012 AKC Delegates Meeting was held on September 10th-11th, 2012 at the Doubletree by Hilton Hotel in Newark (Airport), New Jersey. The meeting began with Committee Meetings. The Parent Clubs Committee met at 9 AM on Mon-day morning, and, as a member of the committee, I was there. The room was packed, as usual. All committee meetings are open to all Delegates, and our committee meetings are always popular. The Parent Clubs Committee agenda included numerous topics. Among the more significant were: the Parent Club of Excellence project, headed by Larry Sorenson. This is to be a self-evaluation for Parent Clubs, with an AKC Award. It is on the agenda for this months Board meeting. Also, the Three Point Major Reserve at one National Specialty per year, which was going to a vote on Tuesday. Also, an update on grooming space rentals, which has been a hot issue for all-breed clubs (thank goodness for drip-dry Pointers). The bottom line is that clubs can rent grooming space as long as they provide an approximately equal amount of free grooming space. Also, there will be a new Complete Dog Book. The AKC is looking for input from Parent Clubs on content and illustrations. They need a contact person from each Parent Club. All material is to be submitted by November 16th. Also Meet the Breeds will be at the Javits Center in NY, October 20th-21st. Also, when giving judging seminars, a judge may not judge that weekend. Also, the Canine Good Citizen Award will become a suffix title. This is the most outreaching program of the AKC, open to all, registered or not with AKC. It is a superb public relations tool. To officially receive the title, the dog must be registered with AKC or Canine Partners. There will be a charge for the title, and will be retroactive to 2001. Also, we welcomed back our staff liaison, John Lyons. Also, there will be a Breeders Conference at the Eukanuba show in Florida in December. And lastly, also, there was a report from Dr. Sheila Nardone, new Chief Scientific Officer of the Canine Health Foundation. The Foundation funded 1.7 million dollars of research the year as compared to 1.3 million last year. The CHF is suggesting that some funds from Donor Advised Funds be placed in designated program areas so that there will be some approved funding available as requests come in, rather than having the research wait while the CHF looks for funding. One of he newly emerging areas of canine research is the Canine Athlete Initiative, exploring orthopedic concerns of maximizing performance while minimizing injuries, and exploring rehabilitation techniques. Monday afternoon, I attended the Canine Health Committee. Topics discussed there included CHIC, Veterinary outreach, Communicable diseases at Shows, Judge’s examination of bite and dentition, and the Global Health Initiative, both with The Kennel Club and the FCI. After that, I attended the Delegates’ Caucus. Tuesday morning at 9 o’clock was the Forum. The topic was “Social Media Made Simple-Three Things You Can Do To Grow Your Club. The use of Facebook was discussed, with emphasis on the ease of keeping a club’s Facebook page up to date, and the ease of two way communication. The official meeting was called to order shortly after 10 AM. The first order of business was election of Committee members. After handing in our ballots, the usual introductions and announcements were made. President Dennis Sprung called for a moment of silence for 9/11. He related how the AKC obtained and delivered a portable x-ray unit for use on Search and Rescue dogs at ground zero, and how DOGNY raised 3.5 million dollars for Search and Rescue animals and teams. He announced a new title: the Urban Search and Rescue Title. It will be awarded to FEMA certified and deployable and State certified and deployable dogs on FEMA and State Task Forces. The first such award was given to Juno, an English Springer Spaniel, owned by Delegate Becky Stanevich. The new CFO, Peter Farnsworth, reported that to date in 2012 there has been a turnaround in core revenues and they are beginning to rise, as is the core revenue share of total revenue. Our operating profit is better and our investment portfolio is up 4.9%, as compared with a small loss in 2011. Finally, we voted on the three amendments which were scheduled for votes. The first vote, Ch.2 Sect 3 of the Rules Applying to Dog Shows pertaining to territories and the repercussions of not holding a show in the clubs territory for two consecutive years was sent to the Dog Show Rules Committee for clarification. The second vote, Ch 5, about ribbons, prizes and trophies was a housekeeping change, to make it consistent with Ch.6. It passed. The final vote, to create a new award of a three-point-major for Reserve Winners Dog and/or Reserve Winners Bitch at one National Specialty per year providing that the number of dogs is at least twice the number required for a five-point-major in that dogs sex in that region. The individual Parent Clubs do have the abil-ity to “opt out” of this award. This had been a hotly debated item for months, but it passed overwhelmingly. Your Delegate voted for the amendment, as instructed by the APC Board. There was a report on the Presidents Challenge, on initiative to raise money for the AKC PAC. This year there has been a 350% increase in dog legislation, and the HSUS has a 55 million dollar war chest. We need to raise money with a goal of 100% participation of members and clubs. Junior Rules Change For 2013, But Remain The Same For 2012 The Westminster Kennel Club has announced new requirements for eligibility in its Junior Showmanship competition beginning with its 2013 show. Requirements for 2012 will remain the same as in previous years. Beginning with the 2013 show, Junior Handlers will be invited to enter if they have been placed Best Junior Handler (with competition) at seven or more AKC Licensed or Member shows held between November 1, 2011 and October 31, 2012 (inclusive), and who were at least 9 years old and under 18 years old at the time of each qualifying win. For 2012, requirements for an invitation to compete remain the same as in past years: 10 first place awards in Open Classes (with competition). From the Editor…..
I’d like to first thank Dawn Backos who recently stepped down as co-editor of Pointer Points with me. She and I have been working together since the 2010 National Specialty Issue and it hasn’t always been easy. I am grateful for her dedication, time and energy she put into Pointer Points and sorry we won’t be working together on this anymore. I know it wasn’t an easy decision and appreciate all she did while on “staff.” I’d also like to thank Maggie Platt and Sarah Rogers for volunteering to help me reach out for more information and results for future issues of the magazine. Having an extra set of hands and eyes is invaluable for a volunteer endeavor such as Pointer Points. If you come across articles or have a few hours a quarter you can spare to help out, please contact me at [email protected]. Finally, leaves are changing colors and the temperatures are dropping, It is time to light the fire on a crisp evening and gather ‘round. This is my favorite time of year...especially with our wonderful Pointers. Back in the field doing what they love most. I hope everyone else is enjoying it as much as I am. I can’t wait to see all the pictures and results from hunt tests and field trials from all over the world. Don’t forget, the theme for the winter issue of Pointer Points is Field and the deadline for all submissions is December 10th.
