Fís Foghlaim Forbairt www. pdst .ie Naonal ‘Write a Poem’ Compeon 2016 Last year the Professional Development Service for Teachers’ Poetry Compeon aracted nearly 1,000 entries. This year PDST is inving students to Write a Poem under two categories: Junior Cycle and Senior Cycle. We hope that the compeon will encourage young writers to compose poetry and assist teachers in supporng the wring of poetry. Rules of the Compeon Each entrant may submit one poem. Each entry must preferably be typed (Calibri Font, size 12) or wrien clearly in legible hand- wring. Each entry must include: the Title of the Poem the Name of the Entrant the Name and Address of the School the Category Teacher Name Each entry must be stamped by the school or signed by an English Teacher. Emailed entries must be sent by the teacher or school and not by the student. Where an entry is inspired by or wrien in response to, a parcular poem, the name of the poem and the poet must be clearly stated on the entry and, where possible, a copy of the original poem should be enclosed. The compeon is aimed at individual writers. Class sets of poems will not be considered as entries for the compeon. Please note that entrants should keep a copy of their poems, as no poems will be returned. Prizes For the Writers The winning poets in each secon will receive a commemorave plaque and their poem will be published on the PDST Post-Primary website and printed in the PDST Naonal Poetry Award booklet. Prizes will be presented at an award ceremony organised by the Professional Development Service for Teachers in associaon with Laois Educaon Centre. All entries should be emailed to [email protected] or posted to Margaret Mary Grant Laois Educaon Centre, Block Road, Portlaoise, Co. Laois. Closing date for receipt of entries is Friday, 8 th April 2016

National ‘Write a Poem’ Competition 2016 Last year the Professional Development Service for Teachers’ Poetry Competition attracted nearly 1,000 entries. This year PDST is inviting students to Write a Poem under two categories: Junior Cycle and Senior Cycle. We hope that the competition will encourage young writers to compose poetry and assist teachers in supporting the writing of poetry.

Rules of the Competition

Each entrant may submit one poem.

Each entry must preferably be typed (Calibri Font, size 12) or written clearly in legible hand-writing.
