What Equipment Do I Need?

• The Flip Video Camera is recommended because it’s student friendly & super easy to use. You can get a 30 or 60 min. size for $100 or $150 respectively.

• Windows Movie Maker is already on your computer (free)

• A headset with microphone ($10-$40)

How Do I Make a Podcast?• Plan & record the scenes you want to use• Open the USB port which “flips” out on the side of the Flip camera• Plug this into your computer’s USB port• Your computer will begin extracting the video from your camera, Flip

software will open, & the clips will appear on your screen• Edit the clips (cut off unwanted footage) with the Flip software &

save them to your computer• Open Windows Movie Maker & click “import video”• Each scene will be a separate file that you will have to import• Drag the clips you want onto the storyboard• Much like Power Point, you can rearrange, animate, add titles &

sound.

Why Should I Bother?• Podcasts help differentiate instruction. A textbook is not the best

tool. • Podcasts of lessons can be downloaded onto a Palm & be privately

replayed over & over until they get it! • It’s also a great way to help struggling parents who don’t know how

to help their child with homework.• Technology is the hook that will draw your students in to your

lessons• You, as a teacher, will be hip, cool, relatable. Students live in a

techno-world & if we want to reach them we have to meet them on their turf.

• "This is the kind of technology they use for their daily lives. If schools want to reach today's learners, they can't ignore it," said Don Knezek, chief executive of the International Society for Technology in Education, based in Washington and Eugene, Ore.
