OUR STUDIO IS A CREATIVE PLACE WHERE WE SOLVE PROBLEMS AND DEVELOP INNOVATIVE DESIGNS. WE SPECIALISE IN COMMERCIAL PROJECTS AND LISTEN TO OUR CLIENTS TO UNDERSTAND THEIR BUSINESS OBJECTIVES. OUR WORK RANGES FROM IDENTIFYING OPPORTUNITIES AND GROWING PROJECTS WITH CLIENTS TO PRODUCING CONSTRUCTION INFORMATION AND COMPLETING PROJECTS ON SITE. THIS RANGE REQUIRES THE SKILLS OF MANY PEOPLE IN OUR TEAM WHO SPECIALISE IN DESIGN AND TECHNICAL SPECIFICATION. WE WORK ON PROJECTS ACROSS THE UK AND OVERSEAS AND HAVE EXTENSIVE EXPERIENCE IN LEADING DESIGN TEAMS. Pod Architects developed the design for Gatwick South terminal arrivals area and completed the project in 2012 at a cost of £17m. The building was constructed around a live public area over a period of 16 months and with the use of innovative materials and design solutions the development provides an exciting arrival sequence to this world class airport.

Pod Architects developed the design guidelines for the retail units at the airport. The document was part of a series of initiatives to raise the quality of the retail experience.

There are a few things that we should point out are best avoided...

Avoid shapes that could be dangerous.

Make sure that there are no changes in level.

Entrance way gondola’s block the lounges and clutter your unit.

Your customers are not as able to shop freely.

Create clear circulation routes.

Avoid A-Frame signs.

We operate on two levels, so the roof of your unit is very visible from the upper areas.

Whilst you need to stand out, be considerate to adjacent units and lounge spaces.

Try not to overstock.

Organise your product to allow clear views across the unit.

It is possible to over brand your unit.

The directors at Pod developed the central area masterplan in conjunction with BAA over a period of 2 years. The masterplan initiated the developments at Terminal 3, Terminal 2 and the multi-story car park.

The directors of Pod formed part of the design team and was involved in early design work, baggage handling strategies and passenger flow analysis. The project was complex and the planning enquiry was a landmark case that secured Heathrow’s prominence as a world transport hub.

Wuhan AirportChina

The directors of Pod were the lead designers on an international completion for an international 20 stand airport as part of China’s nationwide plan to provide world class airports coving all the regions. The design work was done in collaboration with a Chinese architectural agency.

Victoria Rail StationHammerson

The directors at Pod developed the design for the re-generation of Victoria Station which included the refurbishment of the main concourse as a retail centre and the design of 3 new office buildings within the airspace above the station.

Pier 6 Terminal 3 London Heathrow Airport

British Airport AuthorityThe directors at Pod led the design team for this major project which was the first pier at Heathrow to cater for the A380 aircraft. The project was constructed over 3 years at a cost of £100m and was opened on time and was hailed as the bench mark for piers at the airport. The innovative design created a cathedral like space for arriving and departing passengers

The directors at Pod were the lead designers on an invited design competition to re-model the existing terminal in Riyadh. The project was led by the Bin Laden construction group and principally addressed passenger issues relating to the processing a large numbers of pilgrims who visit Mecca each year.

Pod are currently working on a new central island unit at Gatwick South terminal international departure lounge. The new building will form the focus of the arrival space and assist with way finding issues and provide 2/3 retail units. The design is in development with GAL currently.
