Tenantsoftwoshelteredhousingblocks(DonviewHouseandSeatonHouse)inaneighbourhood,AberdeenSportsVillage,AberdeenFootballClubCommunityTrust&WellbeingTeam(AH&SCP)

Howaretheyimprovingservicesandoutcomes?

Bothorganisations,AberdeenSportsVillage(ASV)andAberdeenFootballClubCommunityTrust(AFCCT)metwithagroupoftenantsfrombothSeatonHouseandDonviewHousetodiscusstheopportunitieswhichthey,astenants,couldoffer,basedontheirlifeexperiences,andtohearfromthetenantsabouttheirneedsandwishes,whichtheFootballClubCommunityTrustmighthelpwith.

Weworkedtogethertodevelopaprogrammeofphysicalandsocialopportunitiesaroundthesejointinterests:• Agroupof10tenantsarecurrentlygoingtoPittodrieFootballStadiumforweeklyTechnogymsessions,whichhavebeensetupspecificallyforthegroup.

• AgroupoftenantsareparticipatinginaseatedexerciseclassfromaSportsVillageFitnessInstructorinthecommonroomofDonviewHouseonalternateweeks(assometenantslacktheconfidenceorabilitytotraveltooutsidevenues).

• AberdeenFootballClubCommunityTrust(AFCCT)deliversasocial,physicalandmentalactivity(otherwiseknownasanalternativetherapy)inthecommonroomofSeatonHouseonalternateweeks.

Overthemonthsthattheseactivitieshavebeenrunning,theirdesignhasevolvedwiththehelpoffeedbackfromtheparticipants.Interestingly,thetenantshavebeenwillingtotraveltootherbuildingstoparticipateinactivities,althoughcarestafforiginallyhighlightedlocationasapotentialbarriertogettingtheseactivitiesupandrunning.Tenantswhodrivehaveprovidedtransporttootherswholacktransport,toallowthemtoattendthesessionsatPittodrie.Membersofthegrouphavestatedthattheseactivitieshavegiventhemsomethingtolookforwardtoandprovidedthemwithanewchallenge.

Whatdifferencehasitmade?E.g.improvedservices,betteroutcomes,savings.

• Improvedlinksbetweenorganisations.• Allowedforanewanddifferentmethodofservicedelivery.Inusualcircumstances,providersofserviceslookforpeopletocometothem.However,inthesecases,theproviders(AberdeenSportsVillageandAFCCT)agreedtodeliverservicesintheshelteredhousingblocks.

• Engagedagroupofcitizenswhootherwisewouldnothaveengaged.

Thereareatotalof15tenantsacrossthetwobuildingswhoareattendingeitherweeklyTechnogymsessions,orseatedexercise,oralternativetherapysessions.Someofthoseattendall3.Only3ofthesetenantswerealreadydoingregularexercisepriortothesesessionsandwouldnothavehadtheknowledgeorconfidencetoseekouttheseactivitiesontheirown.
