For 2015 we take another important step with our digital devices and services, promoting POC’s mission of possibly saving lives and reducing the consequences of accidents, by introducing the POC Emergency Trigger.

The Emergency Trigger is our most recent initiative among a number of digital products in our quest to increase the level of safety. Emergency Trigger is a device that is connected to your smart phone via Bluetooth and attached to the chinstrap of your helmet. If you are out on your own somewhere in the woods, injured but conscious, press the button and your medical information and GPS coordinates will be sent out to your preset contacts, letting them know you need help. The challenge to manage rotational violence is always a priority and from 2015, four different POC helmets will be available with MIPS technology; the Crane, the Receptor, the Cortex and the Trabec. In our range of body armor, there is a new line of VPD products, VPD Air, specifically developed to meet the growing number of Enduro and single track related needs for even lighter and more supple gear.

The eyewear, POC Eyes, has been further refined and the line broadened to support all possible needs, depending on preference and conditions. We wish you great riding and a fantastic season!

By molding aramid bridges to the core of the helmet, the impact forces are spread over a larger surface. At the same time the helmet gains structural stability through the bonding of the unbreakable aramid weave

MIPS stands for Multi-directional Impact Protection System and is used to reduce the rotational forces to the brain in the case of an oblique impact. A normal helmet is created to absorb vertical impacts very efficiently, but is not as good at the rotational forces. When subjected to an oblique impact, the MIPS system absorbs these forces by allowing a small rotation of the outer shell relative to the liner.

MIPS allows a small rotation of the shell relative to theliner and thereby reduces therotational energy transmitted to the brain on impact.

POC’s new progressive core (Pro Core) combines two densities. With a stiffer outer part of the liner and a softer portion on the inside, the helmet becomes exceptionally durable on the outside and well suited to

deal with higher energy impacts while the softer inner layer provides protection for lower energy impacts. The two layers also work together to give a progressive stop of the head in case of an impact.

Normally, both the traditional hard shell and in-mold helmets rely on Expanded Polystyrene (EPS) for shock absorption. EPS absorbs energy by plastic deformation, meaning it is deformed permanently upon impact. Therefore, a helmet liner made of EPS will not absorb repetitive shocks well.

Most of POC’s bike helmets have a liner of EPP instead of the traditional EPS. The difference is that EPP, unlike EPS, does not deform permanently on impact and is therefore suitable for absorbing repetitive shocks.

VPD

The VPD (Visco-Elastic Polymer Dough) range is highly impact absorbent, comfortable, ligthweight and adapts to create an individual fit. VPD has given us a completely new approach to developing body armor and due to its high level of protection and the ability to transition from soft to hard during impact, we don’t have to choose between safety and flexibility.

Lots of body armor may be lightweight but is not optimal for repetative impacts. Some may take one impact with good absorption, but a second impact to the protector will transfer a much higher amount of energy to the user, the third an even greater amount and so on. VPD protectors retain the same high

absorption level regardless of number of impacts. This is an important function to us since we believe that a protector will have several impacts during one fall, and during its lifetime. We do everything we can to give you the highest level of protection, but we also want our armor to be comfortable. Anatomically and ergonomically it follows the shape of your body to give you complete freedom of movement. Another major advantage of the POC body armor is the highly efficient ventilation technology, which will keep you cool and allows you to focus on your ride. Looking at the range we hope that you will find a product that suits your personal needs.

We are always looking at new ways to promote safety and we often end up in new areas of expertise depending on the challenge. POC Digital is an initiative to further support our mission of doing the best we can to possibly save lives and to reduce the consequences of accidents. POC Digital is a department that explores the possibilities to improve the level of safety through the use of modern technology.

Our collaboration with some of the best minds in science, health and technology has allowed us to push the boundaries and to be at the fore-front of safety. POC Digital, which is complemented by collaborations with partners such as Volvo Car Group and ICEdot, is another step in this direction and is proof of our dedication and commitment to impro-ving safety for our users.

As part of this approach we have already introduced the ICEdot Crash Sensor, ICE Tag and the H.I. system (Helmet Integrity), used in our

latest ski racing helmet, and the 2015 season will see the launch of the Emergency Trigger.

WHAT IS ICE?ICE stands for In Case of Emergency and is recognized all over the world. Our ICE products are a proactive effort to provide emergency personnel with correct medical history such as blood group, allergies and basic information like name and emergency contact, even if the victim is unconscious.

Helmet, body armor and goggle construction and design are critical elements in accident safety, but unfortunately, accidents do happen. Studies has shown that if we could minimize the time before the victim receives help and provide information needed for correct medical care, we could potentially limit the consequences of accidents.

ICEDOT CRASH SENSORWhen paired with the ICEdot smartphone app, the crash sensor is able to detect motion, changes in forces and impacts. In the event of critical forces, the device triggers the app to send a text message with your GPS position to your pre-selected contacts unless you stop it within a user defined time interval. This will let your family or friends know you might need help.

ICE TAGBy scanning the identification tag or sending a text message with the unique code found on the tag will allow emergency personnel, or passers-by, to identify the victim and receive correct medical information, such as blood group or allergies that can be vital for correct medical care.

Danny MacAskill is a professional street trial* rider born and raised in Dunvegan on the Isle of Skye, Scotland. On April 19th, 2009 he released a 5 1/2 minute street trial video on YouTube that was about to change his life. Filmed by his friend Dave Sowerby, the video got hundreds of thousands of views over night and as of today has been watched well over 35 million times – the world went absolutely crazy about Danny.Since his breakthrough, Danny has been riding all over the globe and in 2013 Danny completed one of his biggest projects: the unbelievable ’MacAskill’s Imaginate’ clip, which was a huge success reaching over 15 million views in just 6 months.This year, Danny is once again embarking on a new journey – having founded the Drop and Roll team, Danny will be touring

across Europe performing awesome live shows in front of enthusiastic crowds with three of his close friends and talented riders. It’s a blast to be a part of Danny’s journey and we are excited about the ad-ventures to come.

Starting from a very young age, Thomas was something special. At 15 he was already appearing in mtb films showing the world what his signature style can do on the North Shore of Vancouver. Since then he has become known as one of the best big mountain riders ever. In fact he has placed in the top ten of every RedBull Rampage ever held. POC is a Swedish company with a strong mission to do the best we can to possibly save lives and to reduce the consequences of accidents for gravity sports athletes and cyclists.

POC was founded in 2005 and made its first entry, addressing the ski racing market, at the ISPO trade show where it also introduced its mission. POC’s new ideas and solutions to improve ski racing safety, by reducing the force transmitted to the brain and body in case of a crash, gained a lot of attention. The concepts, technologies, and materials used and implemented for the helmets and body armor were developed in close collaboration with POC Lab; POC’s scientific forum that consists of some of the world’s foremost sports medicine experts, brain scientists and specialists in spinal cord injuries. At the Turin 2006 Winter Olympics, US alpine ski racer, Julia Mancuso won the gold medal in giant slalom and pictures of her wearing a POC helmet and goggles were published all over the world. Since then, POC has evolved and developed protection for different categories including freeskiing, snowboarding and mountain bike disciplines. In 2014, POC announced the launch of AVIP - its first specific road bike range. AVIP stands for Attention, Visibility, Interaction and Protection and is POC’s most ambitious initiative to date, promoting safety for road cyclists. To achieve higher levels of performance, and balance the expertise gained from POC Lab in safety

and medicine, POC established WATTS Lab. WATTS Lab brings together knowledge from specialists in aerodynamics and is a highly specialized department whose objective is to optimize POC products, allowing the cyclist to go faster, using less energy. At the beginning of 2014, POC announced a three-year partnership to become the official helmet and eyewear supplier of Garmin-Sharp Pro Cycling team. At the same time, POC established an exclusive partnership with Volvo Car Group to explore new ideas within safety and design. POC develops products with constant input and feedback from the team athletes that includes both X Games, Olympic and World Championship medalists. All together, the team athletes have won more than 50 medals in international contests. The most important part and reason for success are proficient and committed employees. Among the POC staff there is a wide range of experience and perspectives, from industrial, fashion and graphic designers, CAD and polymer engineers to communi-cators, marketers and ambassadors - all with a huge passion for the activities they develop and market products for. POC has developed a strong reputation for gravity sports protection and is today established in 25 countries. POC’s goggles are developed to optimize function and protection for all activities and in all conditions. The goggles will protect your eyes from all nature’s elements as well as offer the best visibility in different light conditions. We have optimized the field of view for increased peripheral vision, which results in better reactions and ultimately enhanced safety.

VLT – VISIBLE LIGHT TRANSMISSIONVLT is a measurement that specifies the percentage of light coming through the lens, reaching your eyes. A clear lens for dark conditions has around 90% VLT whilst a very dark mirrored lens, for sunny conditions, may have lower than 10% VLT. Most all round lenses have between 30–60% VLT.

COLORS VS. LIGHT CONDITIONSThe color spectrum runs from blue to violet, with many shades in between. Color sensation and perception is individual, which leads to a subjective choice of lens color for

varying conditions. However, there are some basic rules within the color spectrum that can enhance contrast.

When choosing a lens with a yellow, orange, pink or red color it will block out more of the blue end of the color spectrum. This will en-hance contrast, enabling you to more clearly make out shapes, objects and bumps in the terrain. These lenses are suitable in low light, fog and flat light, but also in moderate light. By using a blue tint some people may also experience enhanced contrast by blocking the other end of the color spectra. In bright light, dark tints will keep your eyes more comfortable.

There is also the option of choosing a brighter tint, but with a mirror coating to block some of the light. Some prefer a green lens, since it dampens the color spectrum evenly. This le-ads to a natural feel where the color spectrum will be experienced as normal.
